Episode 36
Calling in from the UK at the end of a European season: two summers racing the skyrunning series for Salomon out of Chamonix; the Mont Blanc Marathon, a tenth place at the Skyrunning World Championships in the Catalan Pyrenees on a course she found more rock-hopping than running, the Matterhorn Ultraks at Zermatt and the 15km YCC at UTMB; what skyrunning actually is (3,000m-plus of climbing inside a marathon, straight up rather than switchbacked, into the snow line) and the kit Europeans do and don't make you carry; being 20 in a field averaging 30; starting out at 15 crewing her dad at The North Face 100 and running the Surf Coast 100 with him at 16; and finding that a 5k at Southampton parkrun left her sorer than a seven-hour Chamonix run. She is off to China for the Gobi Desert 70k and back to Diamond Creek after that.
