Episode 290 - 98, 99, 100!
Running gag in which hosts and listeners nominate each other for 'fines'. Ollie asks to "get the fine counters at the ready, because there's a bit of pronunciation involved here", Melissa asks "is it double demerits this week?", and Ollie explains "one of those wonderful items that on this podcast we do fine people for is mispronunciation". Returns with Ian Shaw's email nominating TOC as fine-worthy for finishing ahead of him in a Po Teletubby costume, and again where Melissa grants Michael Gentle amnesty for naming "that parkrun that shall not be named".
Episode 289 - Lorikeets are Metal
The show's running fines system, dollar penalties for offences such as capitalising parkrun, backwards flags and (for Ollie) mentioning Shellharbour. This week the office announces a full fine amnesty so that Mel and Ollie can 'resolve the Frond Wars', which drives the whole episode's comedy; Mel also reports that physical fine jars in small, medium and large have arrived at Ellis Palace.
Episode 284 - The Very Very Best Day
The self-imposed fine system runs as a thread through the whole episode and takes a step toward being institutionalised. Ollie establishes the offence list-: claps, typing and mentions. Fines issued this week: Melissa for a missing apostrophe, on feedback from Brendan Scholarly ("Melissa, I'm calling in the punctuation police. Another $1 fine for your comment. Hashtag missing apostrophe"); Ollie for a clap Melissa caught while listening back in the car; the Informant for out-of-date food in the office fridge; Johan and William Boughton for their Consolidated Club Report comments ("an inaugural dollar in the jar"); and Melissa fining herself for saying "Mel Town" [Melton]. Two structural developments:- Ollie says "Sam, Sam's going to track the fines for us. Thank you, Sam", and the Informant sketch reveals Melissa has commissioned a physical fine jar ("Mel's got a bee in her bonnet... nagging me to make a fine jar"). Ollie also jokes that Australia lacking UK-style pop-up signs preserves fine revenue from reverse flags.
Episode 283 - Eman Vergara
Running tally of self-imposed fines for on-air offences: capitalising "parkrun", saying "Shell Harbour" as two words, saying "Meltown", and mispronouncing event names. Melissa says she will track the hosts' fines during editing but listeners will be on an honesty system. Suggested fines this week from Karen Hamilton (capitalising parkrun in Dazza's) and Chris Fraser (raise the reverse-parkrun-flag fine to $5). Sam is fined for being in Facebook jail, Michael Charlton gets double demerits for going to a launch, Melissa fines herself for mispronouncing Muswellbrook, and Tony Everington is fined $1 for capitalising parkrun in his Dazza's post.
