Episode 459 - What is your Colour?
Simon answers last episode's question about why the uglies are celebrated on 25 July rather than 25 June, quoting the elves and then tracing Christmas in July back to an 1892 French opera and a 1933 girls' camp in Brevard, North Carolina. Facebook comments follow from Yvette Turner (on the new verse of the closing song and on hearing participation as percentages), Ali Sheppard (signing up Norman Danny's mum as an adventurer, though volunteers don't show in the Consolidated Club Report), Helen Patricia and David Messenger, who offers encouragement and practical phone-editing advice to anyone thinking of filing a roving report.
Episode 457 - Legs Eleven
Simon: "Let's kick on to episode feedback from last pod." Follow-up to TOC's last-episode comment about names on paper barcodes, both hosts confirm the parkrun app barcode does show your name (but not the in-case-of-emergency details), plus app tips, long-press for the barcode, viewing the barcode of anyone you follow. Also reports listeners who logged aparkrun after TOC's appeal (Sarah Jantscher, Gareth Arnold, Sherry Brandtman, Debbie Jessop) and the Australian/global not-parkrun stats.
Episode 450 - Celebrations and pronunciations
Facebook comments read out: Calum Burrell on Jubilee Tenterfield being named to avoid confusion with the four other Jubilee parkruns; Helen Patricia "loving the pod and chuckling about pronunciations"; Ali Sheppard thanking the show for a Dazza's shout-out and a cover pic, and describing meeting TOC and Jackie plus a crew from Sanctuary Runners (an Irish initiative for asylum seekers and refugees); and a note from fellow Irish parkrun podcast Runs in the Park about the University of Galway parkrun segment.
Episode 448 - Surrounded by clowns
Follow-ups from recent episodes: the Andre whom roving reporter Ruth interviewed at Vingis turns out to be Andre Falconer, newly confirmed to the parkrun Global board ("what a scoop for Ruth"); Paul Lauer sends photos from Cannibals Cave in South Africa; and listener Sal's challenge prompts TOC's hand-counted deep dive into 500-parkrun finishers, 3,849 worldwide, 549 Australian, first was Brian Peters at Main Beach in September 2021, most recent Shirley Dell at Inverloch.
Episode 442 - A Lil Bit of Hope
Simon corrects figures TOC gave in the previous episode about Albert Melbourne's new Australian attendance record (1,570, up from 1,316 not 1,180) and notes only three Australian events have ever exceeded 1,000 finishers, Albert Melbourne, Parramatta and South Bank. Riffs into St Lucia's 800 launch record having stood ~10 years.
Episode 304 - Let Us Entertain You
Ollie: "Ah, but Mel, did we have some feedback from last week's episode?" A message from The Ideas Man, following up the Parkwalk logo discussion, with two black silhouette designs of the state of Victoria that Ollie describes on air. Mel suggests putting him onto the pod's own logo; Ollie sees a market for a design per state and territory.
