Clayton Fettell
Ahead of Cairns 70.3: his third place at Ironman Australia despite a broken aero bar and gut trouble, race nutrition, weekly training loads of 26-35 hours, peaking twice a year to qualify for Kona, advice for first-timers ('stick to your plan, eliminate the expectation'), pre-race nerves as a professional, and his intention to try the newly launched Ballina Coast parkrun with his eight-month-old son in the running pram.
Gavin Mathieson
Coomera parkrun ahead of its fifth birthday on 22 July: how he was recruited after a heart attack at the end of his first marathon, current numbers of 110-140, the double-loop high-five course, the young-family demographic, international tourists and Pirate Club 'C' collectors, past anniversary themes, and his own son born on parkrun day.

Scott Trickett hosting alone with guest co-host Renee Gimbert, Mel away because baby Wesley arrived on parkrun day, the day after she finished work. Renee is off to Cairns at the weekend for her first 70.3 half Ironman, so triathlon is the episode's theme: she rates running her weakest leg after injuries, Scott hated the bike, and she explains the accessories cost more than the bike; Scott promises a check-in next week and a chat with one of her competitors later in the show.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 9:27
Debut roving report from Ricci McGreevy, an RD at Ballarat parkrun, covering Ballarat's second anniversary (theme: gold). She interviews Lou Bray (Territory Director, home parkrun Bendigo), Event Director Bruce, ultrarunner Tash Fraser (recent winner of the Great Ocean Road 60K), parkrunners Jane and the two Sharons, and founding Event Director John Goodwin.
Meet the ED starts at 29:01
Phone interview with Gavin Mathieson, Event Director of Coomera parkrun (one of the first Australian events), ahead of its fifth birthday on 22 July. Covers how he got involved after having a heart attack finishing his first marathon, Coomera's 110-140 weekly numbers, its double-loop high-five culture, tourists including Pirate Club 'C' collectors, past anniversary themes and his own parkrun-day baby. The segment is not explicitly branded on air this week, it is the ED-of-the-week style interview in substance.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 41:17
Second roving report of the episode: Scott Watkins ('Dr Scott') files from the UK. Having run Bushy parkrun on the Saturday, he reports instead from Moormead junior parkrun on the Sunday, interviewing Helen Hood (parkrun UK head of event delivery), junior parkrunners William and Gabriel, volunteer Jo, and Claire, parkrun UK's safeguarding lead.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 48:24"Where is the cake?"
Two new events launching: Coffs Harbour (NSW) and Redland Bay (Qld). Anniversaries at Frog Hollow (Vic), Goondiwindi (Qld), Mitchelton (Qld), Newy (NSW) and Shellharbour (NSW). Scott notes he has reverted to announcing all anniversaries rather than just first ones after experimenting the past couple of weeks.
Sign-off starts at 50:55
Scott thanked Renee for filling in this week while Mel was away with baby Wesley; Renee said she was keeping Mel's seat warm and asked Scott what he was doing next parkrun day. He would be out of the country for his first international parkrun at Bushy, the home of parkrun, having just reached 160 parkruns at Main Beach, and hoped to see the deer and talk to Danny about the tree that looks like the parkrun logo; Renee shared her own Bushy experience of just under 1,000 runners and the group who drink champagne after the run. Scott closed saying they were flying by the seat of their pants, that he thought there would be a podcast next week but not to hold them to it, and pointed listeners to the Facebook page and iTunes feed for episode 72.
