Episode 460 - Across The Ditch
Looking ahead: TOC's traditional O'Connell New Year road trip of about 3,000 km to Forster and Fingal Bay, then Reddall Reserve in Shellharbour; Alison will see TOC at Kirra parkrun for the Ambassadors Conference in November, then Ōamaru Public Gardens with parkrun bestie Maria, and eyes Ōroua River Walkway in Feilding. Next parkrun day: Alison to Sunnynook on Auckland's North Shore (event two) then a pipe band concert in Hamilton; TOC on the stump as RD at Inverloch, hosting Chris and Karen Gore from WA. Thanks to the Office Lady, the editor and Reginald; contact details; Sarah and Simon host next time.
Episode 459 - What is your Colour?
Looking ahead to next parkrun day, Simon is off to Hidden Vale with the family in the school holidays whether or not he makes parkrun, and Sarah will not be at a parkrun at all, she is heading to Bali, resting a knee that cracked getting up off the floor and is back in a brace. Thanks to the team behind the podcast, the Office Lady, the editor and Reginald, a trail for next fortnight (someone who isn't Lyndell will be in the office, and why Lyndell is on unpaid leave), and the contact details: parkrun adventurers on Facebook and Instagram, and parkrunadventurers@gmail.com.
Episode 458 - The Unicorn
Looking ahead: Lyndell, prompted by costume talk at Dazza's, notes Talk Like a Pirate Day on 19 September as an excuse for adventurers to dress up; TOC, after the weekend's misadventure at McIvor Creek, is looking forward to going back in a couple of weeks to complete it and fill that dot on his Voronoi map in Victoria. Next parkrun day: Lyndell hopes to join a frond locally at New Farm Park; TOC is staying local after last week's travel but hasn't decided where. Lyndell thanks the Office Lady, the editor, Reginald and the team; contact via parkrun adventurers on Facebook or parkrunadventurers@gmail.com, and roving reports are welcome. Next time listeners will hear from Sarah and Simon. Followed by the parkrun Party outro song.
Episode 457 - Legs Eleven
Sarah turned to looking ahead with Streaky September about to begin on the Tuesday after the pod's release, urging listeners to join the Streaky September group for the challenges and to share photos. Asked where he was headed next parkrun day, Simon was undecided, he might volunteer, he might run, but would stay local, noting his NENDY is still Golden Beach on the Sunshine Coast. Sarah was thinking about heading home to Cottesloe and walking it, weighing resting a sore knee against needing to get a wriggle on to reach 100 events there this year and being on track to complete 50 parkruns in a year for the first time. They thanked the team behind the podcast, Sam the Office Lady, Dave the editor, Reginald and the Belinda Fairy, and said Lyndell and TOC would be back next fortnight with Streaky September news.
Episode 456 - The hype team
TOC said they were reaching that point of the show and looked ahead to a couple of weeks away on another road trip, going over to Tasmania to complete Hoblers Bridge near Launceston and hoping to catch up with Leanne and Lee Evans, a well-known parkrun family in the area. Lyndell was looking forward, less enthusiastically, to three stair climb events in four days in southeast Queensland, one in Brisbane and two on the Gold Coast. Next parkrun day Lyndell would be at Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan parkrun with a whole bunch of adventurers celebrating the Office Lady, while TOC had a Melbourne work function at 11 o'clock so needed an event between home and the function with a shower available, likely picked on a P-index or Wilson index calculation. They thanked the team behind the podcast, the Office Lady, Dave the Editor, Reginald and the Belinda Fairy, and said Simon and Sarah would host the next episode.
Episode 455 - Tantrums, Tears and Tribulations
Sarah asked Simon where he was headed next parkrun day: adventuring to Macquarie University parkrun, knocking off another Sydney event that started after he moved to Queensland, with Jackson and friends including the Office Lady and Luke and a coalition of dirty cheaters. Sarah was staying local and thinking of going back to Bibra Lake, very close to where she lives, possibly working on her next P-index rise. They thanked each other for the catch-up, noted they would not record for another four weeks, said Lyndell and TOC would be back next fortnight, trailed a bonus roving report from Lyndell at the end of the episode, and mentioned the Office Lady had re-engaged their Instagram page.
Episode 454 - Old and New
TOC said they were chewing into time and turned to what was coming up: Ugly Christmas in July Day on 27 July, wearing the ugly Christmas running shirts, singlets and visors out in public, with the tinsel outing to be at Ulladulla parkrun; Lyndell wished she had worn her fluffy Christmas singlet on her weekend trip up to Nambour. Next parkrun day Lyndell was planning an overnight trip, undecided but thinking of her NENDY at Pittsworth or perhaps Charleys Creek, and TOC was heading to Newborough parkrun in the Latrobe Valley, one of the events he supports, an hour to an hour and a half away. They wrapped up by thanking the team behind the podcast, the Office Lady, Dave the Editor, Reginald and the Belinda Fairy.
Episode 453 - Half Way There
Sarah turned to looking ahead: merchandise orders had closed with thanks to the Office Lady, and they announced the date for Palm 2027, the weekend of 20 March, chosen to fall before Easter and to dodge Easter and school-holiday surcharges, with the destination to be revealed next pod by Lyndell and TOC. Simon said he would not be parkrunning next parkrun day, being on the Gold Coast doing double the parkrun distance at the Gold Coast Marathon 10k, and Sarah was heading to the event she called Kareem parkrun for their event 593, her fifth visit but the first since a course change, catching up with a friend and her two kids. Before signing off they had each other confirm what they would be doing on 20 March 2027, recording a live podcast, and attending palm27.
Episode 452 - The Away Game
Lyndell said they were nearly at the end of the show and asked TOC what he was looking forward to: Ulladulla, which had launched while they were away and is now close to being his nearest event not yet done. Lyndell said she felt a little lost having drawn a line under her tourist streak of over 110 kept up for more than three years, that she no longer really has a home parkrun and that the adventurer community is her parkrun home now, so she was hoping to catch up with adventurers who give her a shout out. Next parkrun day she would be at either New Farm or Nambour parkrun; TOC was run directing at Inverloch, the stump, only 15 kilometres from home. He closed by thanking the team behind the podcast, the Office Lady, Dave the editor, Reginald and the Belinda fairy.
Episode 451 - Let those pies fly high
Sarah moved to looking ahead by inviting listeners to show Mel some love and gratitude for everything she has done for the pod, asking for black and white love hearts, for the Collingwood Magpies, there being no magpie emoji, under the episode post on Facebook and in Dazza's over the next fortnight. She then asked Simon where he was headed next parkrun day: undecided, possibly volunteering, otherwise running to push his re-index from 47 towards his target of 50. Sarah was going to a retreat and would sneak out to Rockingham parkrun for event 639, her first visit there since 19 August 2021. They noted Lyndell and TOC would be back next fortnight once TOC was over his jet lag.
Episode 450 - Celebrations and pronunciations
The looking-ahead exchange opened with Johan noting that UK parkrunner Darren Wood, A490, would probably hit his 1,000th parkrun by the next recording, having completed number 999 in Sweden that weekend. His co-host said what she was looking forward to was winning a pair of Brooks running shoes in the Volunteer Week promotion, Johan pointing out he was out of the running for being outside Australia, and that she had no other plans for next parkrun day. Johan was staying local at Heidedal parkrun to celebrate its ninth anniversary and 400th event, with cake promised. She thanked Johan warmly for the full feature-length appearance, he admitted to being nervous, and they signed off with Sarah and Simon back in the seats next time.
Episode 449 - Is it your first time?
Lyndell turned to looking ahead: by the next recording it would be National Volunteer Week, 18 to 25 May, with the theme "it's your year to volunteer". Simon said he was heading to Jeune Park to celebrate their second birthday, and effectively their first as well, since the first birthday had been wiped out by the cyclone and not everyone from the team could make the actual date a fortnight earlier. Lyndell had no plans as yet and did not know where she would be. They noted she would be back in a fortnight recording with Mel, with more special-day pronunciations to come while TOC was in Europe chasing them.
Episode 448 - Surrounded by clowns
TOC opened the looking-ahead segment with his and Jackie's European trip: seven parkruns in four weeks, starting at University of Galway parkrun in Ireland on 2 May after Inis Meáin cancelled for the day, then Poland, Finland for Pokkinen at Oulu on Ascension Day, Vingis in Lithuania, Zamek w Malborku in Poland, a Whit Monday event in the Netherlands still awaiting declaration, and one in Singapore on the way home, meaning he would skip the May recordings. Lyndell said she was headed to Jubilee parkrun at Tenterfield on the May long weekend to continue her tourist streak, now over 110. For next parkrun day Lyndell was supporting a friend trekking overnight from the Brisbane CBD out to The Gap to finish at an Anzac Day dawn service, so expected to be on the bench again, while TOC would head somewhere in Gippsland close to home, undecided, wanting gravel so he could run before the trip.
Episode 447 - You raise me up
Sarah said it was that time of the pod and asked where Simon was headed next parkrun day: staying as local as he could at Redland Bay to meet Sarah Yancher, who was coming there for the first time, and then missing parkrun the week after because of a birthday celebration the night before. Sarah was heading away for a month and hoped to send in a few roving reports, first stop Pirrama parkrun in the Sydney CBD, the prettiest parkrun in Sydney, then the Beaches the following week, then Japan for four parkruns, so she would not record again until June. The next episode would have Lyndell back in the comfy chair, the first of three in a row, joined by TOC before he heads off on his own big adventure.
Episode 446 - Show us your weed
Mel wound up the watching-the-numbers talk and asked TOC where he was travelling this coming Saturday: possibly Inverloch for a walk, or Phillip Island if he wanted to run, since he is still not allowed to run on asphalt or concrete, Dano was down timekeeping at Inverloch for the Inverloch Running Festival and it could be a big turnout. Mel was heading northwest to South Australia to meet her parkrun besties Martine and Andrew at the event she called Packer Picanty, where she had done a Freedo years ago, and TOC warned the course had changed since. Sarah and Simon were flagged for next fortnight.
Episode 445 - Rainbows, Recordings and the Riesling Trail
At the live palm26 recording, with the audience questions done, all four hosts said where they would be next week: TOC at Victory Road, the new V in Victoria, to catch up one more on statesmanship; Sarah back on the West Side at either Cottesloe or South Beach Recreation Reserve parkrun to get her swim in while the ocean is still tempting; Simon at Callanvale, having been headed to Gainsborough until the ambassador meet-up was moved; and Lyndell on the bench, with officiating duties at a triathlon meaning no parkrun. TOC noted Lyndell was still going with her tourist streak, and said Mel and he would be back working from home next fortnight.
Episode 444 - Addicted to Love
Closing host-swap bit "Simon, where will you be on the next parkrun day?" Simon hopes to finally get to an island parkrun; Sarah is heading to Shelley parkrun for event 465 and notching up her P-index; both then meet in the flesh at palm26. Followed by a late add-on notice: Bathurst parkrun is asking people to wear their favourite race event shirts on the last Saturday in February in memory of Steven Jackson, former co-ED of Bathurst parkrun and Mount Panorama Punish, who died two years ago and became an organ donor for three people.
Episode 443 - Gelato in Milano
TOC asked Lyndell where she would be hiding next parkrun day: she was looking for somewhere close to home to volunteer because of other commitments and had not picked a spot yet. TOC was also on a volunteer roster, run directing at the Stump and looking forward to a visit from Tracy in a tutu. He closed saying how good it had been to get so many emails over the fortnight, and they asked listeners to keep them coming.
Episode 442 - A Lil Bit of Hope
Sarah noted it had been a long pod and Simon asked where she was heading on her next parkrun day: home to Cottesloe parkrun for their event 522, for the swim in the crystal clear water about 30 steps from the finish line and to keep adding to her singleton, then up to Quinns Rocks on 7 February to meet alphabet-chasing friends. Simon was volunteering as Barcode Scanner at Sirromet that weekend and would be at Gainsborough Parklands on the 7th chasing a Wilson 52.
Episode 441 - All Aboard 2026
Mel wrapped the launches and asked TOC what he was looking forward to: a couple of new events, Underwood parkrun in Brisbane, and above all Palm, six or seven weeks away, he asked people to mark the event as going only if they really were coming, since dinner numbers are booked on that. Mel announced she was stepping back to recording bi-monthly, with Lyndell kindly agreeing to step in on the alternate months, so listeners would hear from her again in March. Next parkrun day Mel would be at Queen's Domain parkrun in Hobart, seeing her daughter Ezra off on the STS Young Endeavour, while TOC hoped to get to De Soza parkrun at Buninyong near Ballarat to return to Victorian statesmanship, fires and weather permitting, with an aquathon run leg on the Sunday. Sarah and Simon were due back next fortnight.
Episode 440 - Stop The Clock
After the Christmas bonbon jokes, TOC said they were getting to that point of the show and turned to next parkrun day: he would be somewhere close to home, not Inverloch, with Christmas parties and life-saving requalification filling the diary, while Simon was planning his long trip to an island event, which would let him count the numbers there. Being the last episode of the year, they thanked Mel for everything she had done, Dave for editing recent shows, and the whole team behind the pod, the Office Lady, the equal opportunity employee, the person who does their stats, Reginald and the roving reporters, asked for more roving reports and emails from around the world, and noted there would be no pod until after 12 January before wishing everyone a safe and happy Christmas.
Episode 439 - Legendary Intern
TOC asked Lyndell what she had planned for the next week: she was heading to South Australia, to the home of Larry the Lobster at Kingston SE, for what she thought was Moriah Creek Reserve parkrun, saying she was not sure whether it was Moriah or Maria. TOC had absolutely no idea where he was going, it would be something local, within about an hour's drive, and he might just volunteer, having only decided the previous Saturday late on the Friday night. Simon and Sarah were flagged for next fortnight.
Episode 438 - Lota Love to Give
Sarah moved to looking forward and asked Simon where he was headed for parkrun day: he did not know, possibly South Bank, and the following weekend was waiting to hear where his interstate visitors wanted to go. Sarah was thinking of Edinburgh Oval parkrun to celebrate the lovely Mark Kerr's 400th parkrun, which would take her p-index to nine, and then taking Lyndell's advice and heading to Lota the weekend after, coming across to Queensland so Hadley could meet her great-grandparents, with much joking about the humidity, mosquitoes and mangroves. Mel and TOC were due back next fortnight.
Episode 437 - Woe is a crowd
Mel said there was nothing in the calendar for Looking Forward so they zoomed straight to next parkrun day. Over the Melbourne Cup long weekend she, Dave and Ezra were heading to Lake Fyans parkrun and hanging out in the Ararat area, though she thought Ezra would probably stay in bed, and she saved the other planned activities for a report next time. TOC, it being Cup weekend, was going to do the Phar Lap course. They noted Sarah and Simon would be back next fortnight with a month of travel news.
Episode 436 - The Vote That Counts
Simon wrapped up the questions segment and asked where Sarah was heading on her next parkrun day: Merredin Peak parkrun, to regain her statesmanship in Western Australia and reset her NENDY to Port Lincoln in South Australia, 1,888 kilometres away, travelling either Friday or very early Saturday. She then had two parkrun days in New Zealand, one near Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove that she named as "Moana", a Wilson number Matt needs, then South End Reserve back in Auckland, and on 1 November was torn between Hagley and the new event around a volcanic crater. Simon expected to be joined by the Jays, his son Jackson and his dog Jasper, at Logan River, weather depending, then St Lucia the week after to lift his re-index. Mel and TOC were flagged for next fortnight and a bonus roving report was trailed after the outro.
Episode 435 - The Restructure
Mel asked TOC what he had in his sights: on holidays, he had a visit to Jerrabomberra planned on the way home to complete that region and add another J, guests coming to stay in the new house, then two weeks as Run Director at Inverloch. Mel said October would keep her in her home state catching up on three new Victorian events plus a jaunt to Inverloch and Cape Paterson, that she was heading this coming Saturday to the new Phar Lap Track parkrun, and then to her grandson's first birthday. They then revealed the Palm location, Clare Valley parkrun in South Australia on 7 March next year, an event none of the four hosts had done, noting it is a small event averaging around 50 finishers who should be warned they are coming. Simon and Sarah were due back next fortnight.
Episode 434 - It’s Upside Down
With the rapid-fire questions done, Simon asked Sarah where she was going on her next parkrun day: she planned to check out the newest event in Western Australia, Black Swan Lake parkrun. Simon was heading for the first time to Pirrama parkrun in Sydney, and in case the pod came out late, to Birtinya Island the following weekend during a family getaway to the Sunshine Coast, two new courses in two weeks. They signed off with Mel and TOC back in the hot seat next fortnight, then added a coda after the outro in which Simon asked where Sarah would be on 7 March next year and she answered palm26.
Episode 433 - Ready, Set, Streak...
Mel opened the looking-forward exchange saying she was looking forward to Streaky September and her Bingoe card, mentioned that the Streakmeister had again made a video shared on their socials, and then asked TOC where he was parkrunning on Saturday. TOC had not decided: it would not be Inverloch, and with a conference in Melbourne finishing Friday lunchtime he was thinking of driving up the Hume Highway to somewhere in the ACT area, Jerrabomberra or Goulburn, weather depending. Mel's plans had changed since their pre-pod discussion, so she would look for an event Dave hadn't done to help her P-index; she also explained the background noise heard earlier was Melbourne trams coming through the peregrine falcon live feed she watches, and signed off alone with Simon and Sarah due back next fortnight because TOC's audio was glitching.
Episode 432 - Amazing Grace
Straight after the rapid-fire would-you-rather segment, Simon asked where Sarah was going next parkrun day: she was staying close to home at Lake Claremont parkrun for their 177th event, a quick escape because she had a matinee of Beauty and the Beast. Simon had to stay local for Jackson's last soccer game of the season, which he manages; undecided, he thought he might skip Logan River and go to Scribbly Gums to get amongst the trees. They closed by saying Mel and TOC would be back in the comfy chairs next fortnight.
Episode 431 - Start Spreading the News
After noting there were no launches globally that week, TOC turned to looking forward and said he would be at Sirromet parkrun this weekend, going for a walk in a winery, bringing Jackie, with Mel flying in and asking everyone to BYO tutu. Mel's listener challenge was to come to Sirromet and join her for coffee at the cafe afterwards, or to wear a tutu at your own parkrun instead. They signed off saying Sarah and Simon would host the next fortnight (Sarah having flitted off to Singapore), and TOC congratulated Mel ahead of her Freyne and her 500th parkrun.
Episode 430 - Cleaner Wanted!
TOC turned from the launches to what he was looking forward to, catching up with Mel in person at Sirromet on 9 August, and Mel said that next parkrun day she was headed west to WA to see Sarah and the lovely Matt, with the event still undecided and to be picked by spinning a wheel, and that she was looking forward to her first cuddles with Hadley. The listener challenge was to get a photo in an ugly top for Ugly Christmas Shirt in July Day and post it in Dazza's. TOC said he was going to South Australia next week for an event ambassador conference, the official run is Belair but he planned to skip across to Oaklands Estate Reserve to chase another letter O, then volunteering at Thornton Juniors on the Sunday, with the pair back together in a fortnight.
Episode 429 - It's Question Time
After the new rapid-fire segment, Sarah thanked listeners for their patience with the new fortnightly format, her and Simon's first such recording, and asked where he was headed: Studley parkrun in Melbourne, on Mel's recommendation and others', looking forward to the famed bridge and inviting adventurers to say hello to him in his adventurers shirt, with Sarah advising him to look around as she had talked to Mel the whole way. Sarah had no plans at all, rare for her, but said she would sort it out in the next few days. Simon trailed Mel and TOC for the next fortnight and wished Mel a happy birthday for the intervening week, and Sarah closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 428 - Evolution
Mel swapped the usual order and asked TOC first: with a social commitment on the Friday night that could run late and another on the Saturday, he was staying close to home, probably not Inverloch, and wanted a gravel surface rather than concrete to spare his legs, but had not decided and pointed listeners to his Friday post. Mel was driving about eight hours west to South Australia to Myponga Reservoir, which she reckoned is her NENDY, to catch up with Sam Schroder, with TOC looking up that it sits south of Aldinga Beach. Mel trailed Sarah and Simon for the next fortnight, thanked TOC, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts and "that's it for another fortnight".
Episode 427 - Onions Have Layers
TOC asked what Mel's plans were for next parkrun day: back to South Australia, heading west again with Dave this time, to The Avenues, staying a couple of nights in Hahndorf rather than doing an overnighter, TOC recalling the event's finish-line bonfire. TOC was going to the first anniversary of Great Southern Rail Trail, Korumburra, an event he helped launch a year ago, which also gives him Wilson number 53. Mel then confessed there would be no pod the following week as she was taking another week off, joked with TOC about his surgery, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts and "we'll see you in two weeks".
Episode 426 - Lost Property
Mel asked where Simon would be: either Sirromet or Scribbly Gums, staying close to home again because Jackson had a soccer game over an hour's drive away, prompting a detour into his eight visits to Sirromet taking his P-index to eight. Mel had no idea, with the King's Birthday long weekend in Victoria and her weekend with her daughter, so she planned to stay home and build letterboxes and perhaps work on her P-index locally. Simon trailed Mel and TOC next week with news of how TOC's discussion with his surgeon went, Mel joked about the gory details, thanked Simon, and gave the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 425 - Tracky Dacky Doo Dah Day
TOC said it was that time of the night and asked where Mel would be: another long drive over the border to South Australia with Reynella East in her sights, accommodation not yet booked. TOC's plans depended on a surgeon's appointment the next day for a leg injury, but he hoped to road trip to New South Wales or preferably the ACT, where he has only a couple of events left, naming Point Hut Pond or Ginninderra. Mel trailed herself and Simon for next week, wished TOC the best result from the doctor, and TOC closed with the Facebook and email contacts and "we'll see you all in your trackies next week".
Episode 424 - Reaching a Rec-Ord
Sarah asked Simon where he would be on Saturday: he hoped to head out to Hidden Vale for event three, where he thought some of the Channel 5 news crew would be. Sarah was going to Edinburgh Oval for its event 238, semi-close to home, to work on her P-index, with visiting friends in tow who she expected would be dragged along, her partner Matt had booked a 6am sauna by the beach, so she reckoned Jason could manage a parkrun, followed by the Banff Film Festival and ramen. Sarah trailed Mel and TOC returning next week and Simon closed with the Facebook and email contacts and thanks to Sarah.
Episode 423 - The Hope Song
Mel asked Simon where he was going next week: he was staying close to home because of another soccer game an hour and a half away starting at the same time, so he would race back from parkrun to take Jackson to it. Mel was taking Friday off work for one of her long road trips, driving about seven and a half hours to South Australia, undecided between the Avenues and Myponga Reservoir having already done Drage, and unsure where she would stay. Simon said Sarah would be joining him on the pod next week, Mel thanked him for coming on and they noted they had not recorded together for two months, before closing with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 422 - Potato, Potarto
Mel said they were coming towards the end and asked guest Danny Norman where he would be on Saturday: Ludlow, a couple of hours west of London toward Wales, though he explained he had mucked up the timing of his 500th different event, which he had wanted at Sheringham on the North Norfolk coast near Cromer where his grandparents holidayed, and which now looks likely to land in Scandinavia during his European extras, with Jem and Tiny Steve there. Mel said she faced a similar dilemma trying to line up her 250th different event with her 500th overall, and the two talked about overthinking, upbringing and neurodiversity before Mel thanked Danny for filling in, trailed her return with TOC next week and gave the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 421 - There's No Place Like Home
TOC said it was that time of the week and asked where Mel would be: after getting nostalgic at Toolern Creek she was venturing back to her original home event, Berwick Springs parkrun, heading southeast the night before to see one of her children for a birthday. TOC had not decided, wanting to avoid two weeks running at Inverloch and thinking about working on his P-index, with Sustainable House Day on at the Cape that weekend, five houses in his estate open, which Mel said she would like to attend next year. Mel noted she is in the chairs next week with a co-host she did not name on the recording, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 420 - No Indeed. Indeed, No
After the Anzac Day listener challenge, Sarah asked Simon where he was headed next parkrun day: he was unsure but planned to volunteer somewhere close to home, checking later in the week to see who needed someone. Sarah had "plans to make plans", she had an idea but her partner Matt wanted somewhere else, so it would be somewhere local, and Matt, a reservist, would be marching on Anzac Day, with them in Perth for the day. Sarah trailed Mel and TOC returning next week from New Zealand and their adventures, and Simon closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 419 - palm 25
The live Palm recording in Queenstown lost its audio about 57 minutes in, so Mel explained the sound change in a separately recorded voiceover, apologised that the rest of the audience Q&A was lost to the wider audience, and asked for help from anyone with the IT skills to prevent it recurring. She then narrated the close that followed: TOC asked where she would be on Saturday and she said Pyramid Hill Golf Trail parkrun; she asked him and he said the same, and as luck would have it both were staying at the pub. TOC then gave the Facebook and email contacts and signed off, handing next week to Sarah and Simon.
Episode 418 - Yeah Nah
Mel asked TOC where he would be on Saturday: at the event he jokingly called "the Voldemort parkrun" because a note in the show notes told him not to name it, the Stump, i.e. Inverloch, for a celebration, and Mel took the fine to ask anyone there to congratulate Tony O'Connell on his V250. Mel was driving out to the brand-new Eildon Pondage parkrun, which TOC had helped set up, taking Ezra along for a mother-daughter road trip on condition they took the new car. Mel then announced there would be no pod the following week so she could pack for Palm rather than edit, with the next release being the live recording made in front of an audience at Queenstown, and they closed with the contacts and "we'll see you all in a couple of weeks".
Episode 417 - Baby Brain is Real
Simon asked Sarah where she would be next parkrun day: she was heading back to Cottesloe parkrun, having deliberately gone elsewhere the week before, to take Hadley back to meet the team, with about 33 degrees forecast so they would take the shelter down to the beach and swim afterwards. Simon was staying local, most likely Scribbly Gums, depending on what was open. He noted they would not be recording again until Palm, since their next scheduled recording falls on the Palm weekend when everyone will be in New Zealand, trailed Mel and TOC for next week, and Sarah closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 416 - Falicitating Fun
TOC asked Mel where she would be next parkrun day: she had only got home at 5pm that day from a week away and had not planned it, but wanted to attend an art show in the Box Hill region so was eyeing the nearest event there, with TOC suggesting Box Hill or Gardeners. TOC was going to Inverloch to VI Guide a runner around the course, the same runner he would then support at the Inverloch Running Festival on the Sunday, where he was doing the half; Mel could not attend because of a theatre date with her daughter Olivia, and joked they should start fining Inverloch mentions the way they do Shellharbour. They trailed Sarah's return with Simon next week, subject to his having power and internet after Cyclone Alfred, and closed with the contacts.
Episode 415 - Pow Wow to PALM
Mel asked Simon to go first on next parkrun day: he was planning Sirromet but said it depended on the coming days' weather, since it is on a hill and muddy, with coastal events at risk of inundation and cancellations to watch. Mel and Dave were taking a road trip and going camping to the Queanbeyan rodeo, and while there she would finally do Bungendore, "Bungers", which she had been holding off for the rodeo. Mel thanked Simon for returning, confirmed she and TOC record next week and that Simon would be back in a fortnight with Sarah Jefferson returning from pod maternity leave, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 414 - Wombling Free
After settling on a travel-emoji listener challenge, Mel asked TOC where he was planning to be: he had no idea, needing to be in Geelong on Saturday night for a family birthday party, so somewhere in Victoria between Cape Patterson and Geelong. Mel was hoping for Albert Melbourne, betting on its once-a-year alternate course out onto the Grand Prix circuit ahead of the track closing, with TOC advising her to check the event's Facebook page for cancellations first. They trailed Simon's return next week from Japan, wondered aloud what he had been doing there, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 413 - Transport & Tryouts
Mel asked guest host Peter what he was looking forward to: Peter was going up to southeast Queensland to visit family in the middle of his longest ever tourism streak (about 15), unsure where but possibly the renamed Gainsborough Parklands parkrun, formerly Gainsborough Greens, and debating with Mel whether it would reset to event one. Mel had not decided either, but was heading to Victoria's southeast, possibly Pakenham if she picked up her grand-dog, or somewhere in the Casey region near her daughter, depending on whether she gave Dave some hills. Peter noted Mel and TOC return next week, Mel thanked him for standing in as the mystery guest, and they closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 412 - Another One Bites the Dust
TOC asked Mel what was happening for next parkrun day: Mel was going to Brimbank, which she had only officially run once at its Medibank-sponsored launch with Michelle Bridges and a live TV cross, and which TOC noted had been listed in the Financial Times among the six best parkruns in the world, TOC had been Funnel Manager at that launch. TOC was undecided, thinking maybe Inverloch or a duck across to Newborough, an event he is ambassador for, to say g'day to the team. Mel teased a mystery guest host for next week while Simon was in Japan, refusing to name them even in the episode description, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 411 - GPS fails
Mel turned to looking forward to next week: Simon said he would be at Scribbly Gums to build up his P-index, and Mel would be at Portarlington parkrun on Saturday morning, walking to save her legs for the Bellarine Sunset Run that evening, with Dave planning to run both, her only previous visit to Portarlington was October 2017. She repeated the invitation to join The adventurers team or volunteer for the sunset run, listing TOC, Craig Ryan, the Belinda Fairy and adventurer Kelly as going. Simon trailed Mel and TOC for next week and revealed he would miss the following recording as he would be in Japan, with no parkruns on the northern island, so no parkrun for two weeks; Mel gave the contacts and signed off.
Episode 410 - Aussie Aussie Aussie
The hosts' closing where-next exchange: Mel is going back to Coburg parkrun for her fourth visit, to celebrate Christine's birthday; TOC is heading to Aintree (Rockbank, Melton) to reclaim his statesman status.
Episode 409 - Give us a hug
After setting the listener challenge, asking listeners to review the podcast in their podcast apps to spread the word, Simon asked where Mel was heading: Mel and Dave were off to Sale in Gippsland, a fourth visit after once in 2016 and twice in 2018, an event she rates highly for Victorian tourists. Simon was hoping for Harmony Boulevard on the Sunshine Coast, close to the new Birtinya Island, which he wanted to leave to settle down and give the volunteers a rest. Mel said she would be back with TOC next week with baby news hoped for, thanked Simon for stepping in for Sarah, and gave the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 408 - Back to the Office
The hosts turned to where they were going: TOC was Run Director at Inverloch for a takeover day by residents of the estate he lives in, having recruited about 19 volunteers through his neighbourhood Facebook page for an event that normally runs on nine or ten, with seven or eight adventurers expected on the roster, and he challenged listeners to see how many adventurers they could get on their own roster. Mel planned to go out to Dixon Field parkrun, about half an hour from Melton, a second visit, with Dave and possibly an interstate guest chasing a D, but warned listeners to check with her first as plans change. They trailed Mel and Simon for next week because Sarah Jefferson might be busy with a new baby, said how much they had enjoyed the four-week break, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 407 - Highlights and Hopes
Mel said she was taking the next week off, leaving Friday for a week down the surf coast, and planned to hit up Torquay parkrun, she had checked the future roster after TOC confused it with Ocean Grove, which cancels over Christmas. TOC said he would be back at Inverloch for the next couple of weeks, playing Santa on the stump on Christmas Day and hunting for a new costume, having already done Christmas trees, presents, Santas and an elf; Mel suggested Frosty the Snowman and beach Santa photos. They pulled Christmas bonbons and read the jokes ("Why did the runner join a band? They wanted to improve their tempo" and "Which athlete stays warm during winter? A long jumper"), declined to sing, wished listeners a merry and safe Christmas, and closed with the contacts and "we'll see you all next year".
Episode 406 - White-marks the spot
Simon asked where TOC would be on next parkrun day: TOC was uncertain, possibly one of the Gippsland events or travelling up to Melbourne to sample something different; Simon said he would probably go to Sirromet as one of the closer ones, but if he woke early he might head off to a NENDY like Warner Lakes or Old Esk Railway. TOC noted this was the penultimate pod before the Christmas break, with the last episode of the year recorded on 9 December and recording resuming 13 January, trailed next week's all-in group challenge podcast-host Christmas special, and gave the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 405 - B4s Return
Asked what he was looking forward to, TOC said Perth plans were on hold for the weekend's group trip to Flinders Island, a chartered plane, the pub booked out and Whitemark Wharf parkrun, the last Tasmanian event some of the group need, and Mel said she was looking forward to hanging out with 18 fellow adventurers, "like school camp", noting how hard Whitemark Wharf is to reach without a charter flight or the barge. Mel confirmed neither needed to be asked where they would be next parkrun day as both would be at Whitemark Wharf, running the Xanthorrhoea Trail, with a forecast around 20 degrees and a 70 per cent chance of rain. She announced the Christmas break, the last episode of the year to be recorded on 9 December, returning 13 January, trailed Mel and Simon for next week, and closed with the contacts.
Episode 404 - Boomerang
Sarah asked where Simon would be headed: he was in two minds between Harris Avenue, which he has not done, and Minnippi to increase his re-index, and would decide on Friday night. Sarah was returning to South Beach Recreation Reserve parkrun to welcome home the first of the ten boomerangs, the fourth boomerang, which left that event on 21 June, was delivered to Victoria Dock in London and has visited 21 parkruns since, expecting a big crowd and possibly another attendance record. Simon trailed "the potty-mouthed Victorians", Mel and TOC, for next week, gave the Facebook and email contacts and thanked Sarah.
Episode 403 - In the Poo
Where the hosts are heading next parkrun day: Melissa Ellis to Louis Hamon Park parkrun at Numurkah, Victoria - which turns out to be TOC's birthplace - while TOC's plans are still undecided around a house build.
Episode 402 - With Mispronunciations Now
Simon turned to what they were looking forward to and Mel flagged that a second round of the Ugly Christmas Singlet and Shirt Day shirt portal had opened, directing questions to that page rather than to the pod. Both were undecided about next parkrun day: Mel somewhere within about 45 minutes of Melton with Dave because she had to be across town for lunch, possibly revealing her new car's number plates in Dazza's; Simon choosing between Scribbly Gum for his p-index and Underwood for his re-index, and promising to wear his adventurers shirt. Mel said TOC would be back next week after running a marathon and then a 60 km event on consecutive days at Portland, apologised for the dog Lucy whining at the office door, thanked Simon and gave the contacts.
Episode 401 - Adventurers Shine
Simon rolled last week's listener challenge over and asked where they would be: Sarah driving south to Esperance Foreshore parkrun to complete her Western Australian statesman again, in a group including Chris and Karen Gore, Abdul, Matthew Stevens and Andrew Yeatman; Simon skipping parkrun to run leg two of the Bondi to Manly Ultra (Rose Bay to North Sydney), noting he is three short of regaining his Rayfarers and still needs Macquarie University, Parramatta and Australian Botanical Gardens Mount Annan. Sarah announced there would be no pod the following week, that Dazza would still be posting, and gave the Facebook and email contacts before signing off.
Episode 400 - Thank you for the Music
Mel and TOC said where they would be next parkrun day: Mel heading across town to the southeast to Marriott Waters parkrun near Cranbourne to surprise a friend celebrating a milestone (asking listeners not to give it away), and TOC hoping to get to Phillip Island parkrun, which he pointed out is actually on Churchill Island. Mel trailed that Simon and Sarah would be hosting next week while she took a break from pod notes, and TOC closed with the Facebook and email contacts and "that's it for another week".
Episode 399 - Das Ist Gut
Mel set the week's listener challenge - give us a salute, a military one rather than a one-fingered one - then asked where Simon was going: she would be back at Pucka parkrun two weeks in a row, and he was heading to Forte Forest, not far from home, to meet South East Queensland ambassadors for their quarterly catch-up, which he said is mostly breakfast and sharing ideas rather than talk of new events. Mel mentioned bumping into listeners lately, including Andrew at Mount Annan and Bill volunteering for the first time at juniors, and announced Budgie would be flying into Shellharbour that Saturday for an adventurer to pick up from Karen Hamilton. They trailed the following week's 400th episode with Mel and TOC, a 'no frills 400' with no party and no T-shirt, Mel thanked Simon for joining her after eight weeks away, and he closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 398 - Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Ollie, having let slip that he was going somewhere predictable for parkrun's 20th anniversary, asked Mel where she was going: she said it was apt, given she had just said people should spend parkrun Day somewhere special, that she would be at Puckapunyal parkrun, which is somewhere special for her, and would make sure everyone there knew it was a special day. Ollie hoped everyone enjoyed a special day whether at home or adventuring, Mel thanked him for coming back and joining her, he apologised for sounding scratchy, they noted Simon would be back the following week, and he closed with the Facebook and email contacts - joking they also take complaints about his pronunciation and hosting - and 'that is it for another week'.
Episode 397 - The Grate Return
Simon asked where Sarah was going on her next parkrun day: she was adventuring across the ditch to Invercargill parkrun at the bottom of New Zealand's South Island, hoping to find warm clothes that still fitted given the chilly forecast. Simon was handing out tokens at Redland Bay parkrun, volunteering for the first time in a while and close enough to run there and back for his 5k. He trailed the following week's blue moon episode with Mel and Ollie, said it had been great having Sarah on the pod and that he would see her in a month, and Sarah closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 396 - Oh What a Feeling!
Mel said they were coming to the end and asked where TOC was headed: back to Inverloch to actually have a run after standing on the stump as RD, in preparation for some big adventures coming up. Mel was going north to Sydney to check out Parramatta parkrun, a week too late for Budgie, and taking her teenager to see Hamilton at the Lyric Theatre. They noted next week was their week off with Sarah and Simon presenting, Mel wished TOC a happy birthday again and thanked him for joining her, they talked about whether the aurora would be visible from his back window, and she closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Revisits and Backflips
TOC asked what Mel's next parkrun day held: a regional revisit to Nhill parkrun in western Victoria, where she had been at event one, taking Dave along and planning to see the silos, the pink lake, the pinball museum and the aviation heritage centre she missed the first time. TOC was run directing Inverloch parkrun's 10th birthday, with crazy hats and crazy socks, cake, and the event's 50,000th finisher expected that morning, which led to a guessing game on attendance - TOC picked 153, Mel picked 127, allowing for the Sydney Marathon drawing people north. Mel reminded adventurers near Parramatta to grab Budgie the aeroplane off Eman and take him to the next event, thanked TOC for joining her two weeks running, apologised for recording a day late, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that is it for another week'.
Episode 394 - Dangling the carrot
TOC asked where Mel was off to: she was heading to South Australia to meet Sarah from the West Side and Belinda Ferry, hoping to do Gawler, an event she knew nothing about and rarely heard mentioned; TOC was going back to the Great Southern Rail Trail parkrun at Korumburra, an event he is ambassador for and had attended for its launch, to see how the team was going. They riffed on inventing a 'share the love' challenge for parkruns that fit no existing challenge. TOC then announced there would be no episode the following week, and Mel explained it was because her daughter is in her school production leaving her no time to edit, with both reminding listeners the Bingoe card and Streaky September would still be running. Mel thanked TOC for joining her and closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week, we'll see you all in a couple of weeks'.
Episode 393 - Onwards and Upwards
Simon set the week's listener challenge - drop the word 'Paris' into the Saturday social post for the start of the Paralympics - then asked where Sarah was heading: to Newcastle Park parkrun for their event 79, Wilson chasing, which she believed would take her Wilson index from 78 to 95. Simon planned Underwood Park, somewhere he had been only once, to keep his tourist streak going. He thanked her for joining him for another week, said he would speak to her again in a month's time, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 392 - Bolting towards Septmeber
TOC said parkrun day was only a few days away and asked where Mel was headed: she had not decided, having just got back from Sydney, and said there would be no new events or touristing, so she would pick a local parkrun and might check the Friday post to see where her friends were going. TOC was in the same boat, with a function in Melbourne on Saturday, so he would be somewhere in the Melbourne area and would probably find out which direction Dano was headed and piggyback along, posting it in the Friday night post. Mel said Simon and Sarah from the West Side would be on the following week while she took a break, thanked TOC for joining her, and after some ribbing about her Collingwood jumper and whether the club song should be the outro, closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 391 - The Rookie
Simon said he would miss parkrun day for a good reason - his first backyard ultra, the Clint Eastwood at Oxley Creek Common, starting Friday at 9am with his wife crewing for him - and Mel said she would be at the Ponds parkrun, carrying Budgie, the little Jetstar aeroplane baton she had had engraved with his name and the podcast email, packed in a blue pencil case with rules that he must be handed on at a parkrun event, travel with an adventurer, visit every Australian state and territory and then find his way to Danny or Nicola from With Me Now in England, with a barcode made by Sarah Jefferson linking to the Facebook page. She noted Budgie had already been to Balclutha parkrun in New Zealand and that Ollie would be at Rex Jackson. Mel wished Simon luck, said she would be hearing the ultra aftermath when she edited his next episode with Sarah from the West Side, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 390 - Jumpy
Mel went first and admitted she had no plans yet, only that it would be local with no touristing; Ollie said he would be volunteering at Shellharbour, run directing while his mum tail walked for her combined 250 parkrun and 50 volunteer milestone, with cake to follow, and Mel wished Galen a great day and said she looked forward to the photos. Mel noted Simon was back in the chair next week and thanked Ollie for joining her; he thanked her and everyone for letting him indulge in a dose of parkrun after a long wait, said he looked forward to the next blue moon, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 389 - What's a Melidex?
TOC asked whether Mel had parkrun plans: she said it was her at-home weekend after New Zealand and she would probably head to Maribyrnong, prompting TOC's memory of doing lead bike there on the last day that role was available and Mel's news that the Anglers Tavern had reopened after the Maribyrnong floods. TOC had no plans, floating an interstate trip just across the border to McLean Beach, one of Mel's favourites, or Inverloch or Great Southern, and said he would post it on the Friday night post. Mel trailed the following week as a fifth Monday blue moon with Ollie back, thanked TOC for joining her, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 388 - When 3 becomes 5
Simon said there would be no listener challenge that week because the pod would be out late due to editing, then asked where they were headed: Sarah was undecided, weighing a trip home to Cottesloe, which she rarely gets to unless she is run directing, against somewhere local to tick off a Wilson number, and would be solo as Matt was working; Simon was undecided between Surfers Paradise to knock off his last Gold Coast event or volunteering locally, depending on the weather. He said it had been really good having Sarah on the pod again and that he would see her in a month's time, then gave the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 387 - Founders and Fashion
TOC asked where Mel was next week: she had changed her New Zealand plans, and instead of Dunedin was heading to Balclutha parkrun, chosen after Nicola Wright looked at the map with her, because it has a bridge you run across, a 9am start and is only about 20 minutes from where Jake and Leah live, making it easier with Ezra and the dog in tow, and because the family were coming as her birthday present. TOC was going to Inverloch parkrun, where the team behind next year's Inverloch Running Festival were launching it with the Shire straight after parkrun, which Mel called a scoop. She noted Sarah and Simon would be with him the following week, thanked him for joining her, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 386 - Fly High
Mel asked where Simon was going: he was planning his 100th different event, having kept quiet that Redcliffe the week before was his 99th, with a digression about failing to find an ice cream to mark it. Mel would not divulge her plans, saying she was not really sure and was keeping tight-lipped, but assured listeners she was not going to a launch. She thanked Simon for joining her, noted she would be in New Zealand in two weeks so Sarah from the West Side would record with him again while Mel edited, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 385 - Ice Ice Baby
Neither host had plans settled: Mel said hers was still in the planning stage with a few options, so she would be mysterious; TOC said he was in the same boat, having not thought past his backyard ultra, and might volunteer locally or drop into Inverloch to collect gear before run directing a fortnight later, deciding Friday night or Saturday morning. They urged listeners to use the Friday post so people like Charles Gregory in Tasmania could catch up with adventurers. Mel then shared that her eldest daughter, Sarah, is having a baby and she will become a nana at the end of October, so she has blocked October and November out of her touring calendar. She thanked TOC for recording when he was not too broken after the ultra, then closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 384 - Indeed
Mel set the week's secret listener challenge - a Monty Slade thumbs up in the photo posted on Saturday - then said where she was going: event two of the Great Southern Rail Trail parkrun at Korumburra, where she expected to finish her pooper scooper challenge by getting her twentieth number two, and to visit her kids while out that way with Ezra home. Simon was unknown, needing to get back for Jackson's soccer game well out of the area, so he might just volunteer locally. He wished TOC luck for the backyard ultra at Wild Dog starting that Friday and they wondered who would post updates. Mel thanked Simon, said she looked forward to chatting again in two weeks, then gave the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 383 - Big Kahunas
TOC said they were nearly wrapped up and asked where Mel was heading: after a week at home with COVID she was flying to Tasmania with her buddies Andrew and Martine, planning Risdon Brook, and asked Ryan Stoddart whether he would be in the general area so they might cross paths; TOC had not decided, calling it a mystery location he would settle later in the week. Mel allowed that it was only Monday night, and TOC closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 382 - What's in a name?
Simon asked where Mel was going next parkrun day; she said it was her home week with no adventure planned and she had COVID, so she would probably stay local and had not decided where. Simon was tossing up between Meadowbrook, which he had done only once on a New Year's Day double, and Underwood, both about 30 to 35 minutes away, because Jackson had an early soccer game further afield. Mel pushed him towards Meadowbrook as a name she had never heard in nine years of listening, congratulated him on finishing his alphabet at Zillmere with Dorota, and then wrapped up with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 381 - Ah-sigh-ee
Simon asked where Sarah was going next parkrun day; she said she was heading east then north to Fingal Bay parkrun, that she had spotted an adventurer in the results, Fiona Mullen, and would be wearing her adventurers shirt if Fiona wanted to say hi, though she was not looking forward to the cold. Simon said he was doing something epic - finishing his alphabet at Zillmere, also completing all the Brisbane city events, and celebrating an unofficial Dirty Cheater Day - with his friend Dorota coming up from Sydney to finish her alphabet with him. After noting they had not once said 'Voldemort parkrun', Simon gave the Facebook and email contacts, said 'that's it for another week', and thanked Sarah for joining him.
Episode 380 - In a twist
Mel said she was adventuring, jumping on a plane to Armidale to visit adventurers there - Rex Gream, Clancy and his partner Samantha - and asked if they would be home; Tony said it was Monday night and he had no idea where he was going, planning a short practice run on Friday night ahead of a big event and possibly chasing a P index somewhere close, but expecting to end up at Inverloch, with Mel predicting he would be tempted by a party and cake an hour or two from home. She thanked him for joining her, he said he had enjoyed their night of tongue twisting, and she closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 379 - R2-RD
Simon asked where Mel was going next parkrun day; she said her show notes read 'NFI', that it was her at-home week so she would not travel far, and that she would probably look at her P index locations to lift one of her eights to a nine, joking she could be swayed by a party or keto cupcakes. Simon said he thought he would go to Greenbank, a new one for him that had been closed and reopened a few times with flooding, or stay local and decide on Friday. After some banter about colour clubs and whether there is a 'white' parkrun, Mel thanked him for joining her and closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 378 - Run the World
Asked about parkrun day, Mel said she had a flight to Tasmania, into Nipaluna Hobart with her travel buddies Martine and Andrew and no doubt Eric, planning to visit the Warwicks and possibly Bells Parade; Ollie said he would probably miss parkrun day, flying into Nipaluna on the Friday night because his father had bought a yacht moored there and he was needed on deck before it was sailed back across Bass Strait. Mel thanked him for joining her, Ollie noted that Wanwan is the local language word for Shellharbour, they wished each other safe travels, and Mel closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 377 - Purple Patches
TOC trailed the following week's episode, a chat with Travis from Run the World, and Mel said she looked forward to hearing how Run the World had grown since they last checked in. They then said where they were headed: Mel to Puckapunyal, back again, with a special guest she would not name; TOC said the O'Connells were also going to Pucca, where he was booked on the volunteer roster and had offered to run direct but might be timekeeping. He signed off with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
Episode 376 - palm24
Recorded live at palm24, the host wrapped up with 'well, that was fun, we're done', apologised for not mentioning Dazza, Rachel and the birthday boy, and thanked everyone for joining them. He gave the email and social contacts (Facebook and Instagram, noting they had given up on X), invited roving reports and messages, said they would be back on the airwaves after Palm once they worked out whether the recording had worked, and reported that the usual live recording method had failed almost immediately while the backup kept picking up sound. He closed with 'that is it for another Palm, that is it for another week', pointing people to the afternoon's event and thanking the room for coming.
Episode 375 - Outback parkruns
The hosts said where they would be that parkrun day: Mel staying in Victoria to catch up on the recent launch at Trebeck Reserve in Winchelsea, about an hour and 20 minutes from Melton, expecting familiar faces and hinting at a significant event on the day; Tony said he was not committed, either staying local to chase a p-index number or making an early three-and-a-half-hour drive to Trebeck. He then gave the Facebook and email contacts and signed off with 'that's it for another week, plus a little more as we lead into Palm', pointing listeners to palm24 in Toowoomba.
Episode 374 - details, details
Mel said the Learjet was taking her nowhere exciting because she had been told she had to work, but she was allowed to go to parkrun and would be at Puckapunyal; Simon said he was going semi-local to Capalaba, about half an hour away and not visited in about two years, then revealed that before recording with her again and before Palm he was going to Japan to run Futako Tamagawa parkrun in Tokyo, which Japanese parkrunners abbreviate to three letters, and promised to bring back a list of those names and to record audio including an interview with someone he met at Mossman parkrun about six years earlier. Mel thanked him for joining her and said she would see him at Palm, then gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 373 - Geographical Inaccuracy
The hosts say where they will be next Saturday: TOC is doing a duplication, run directing Inverloch a second week running with 24 volunteers recruited from the residential estate he lives in at Cape Patterson; Melissa is flying to Launceston ("Lonnie") in Tasmania to finish off the Pioneers Club.
Episode 372 - Don't follow Mel!
Mel said the episode was drawing to a close and asked TOC, who said he was going to the sunny Inverloch to run with Inverloch stalwarts Noel and Julie Farmillo, a husband and wife team, for their 250th; Mel said she was driving to Queanbeyan on the Friday night, partly to save an hour and a half of travel and partly for the Queanbeyan Rodeo, then going on to Braidwood Showground, which she was fairly sure was her NENDY, possibly joined by Bec Bailey. She joked that people should cross their fingers her car made it given her brakes and gearbox, then TOC gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 371 - Out & Moving
Ollie asked Mel about her next parkrun day and she said she honestly had no idea, with no ability to tour that week, so it would be somewhere local out of a couple of options she had not yet nutted out; Ollie said he was going to Shellharbour, that he saw no more adventures for a few weeks until his hoped-for Hunter trip, and that it was their pacers day, the first parkrun day of each month, though he was not sure yet whether he would be running, walking or volunteering. Mel called that the mystery for everyone, then Ollie gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 370 - What's in the Box?
Mel said she had had to ask Sarah from the West Side where she was going, and was heading west to South Australia to be with Sarah Jefferson for Reynella East, possibly a Wilson number for both of them, staying two nights and taking in Thornton Juniors as well; Simon said his choice of Greenbank, Kedron or Paradise Point - his NENDY - was weather dependent with more rain forecast in Brisbane, having said earlier he was trying for the fourth time to get to Queen Elizabeth Casino in two or three weeks. They finished with Simon showing off an Adidas 50 shirt sent over by Mark Brocklehurst, then Mel gave the Facebook and email contacts, thanked Simon for joining her and said she would see him in a month.
Episode 369 - When Paris met Harry
Mel turned to next week and went to Ollie first: he had put his name down as Timekeeper and would be volunteering looking over a beautiful beach; Mel said she was hoping to get to Ball Park parkrun, one of the relatively new events, up in Corowa on the Victorian-New South Wales border, possibly with a stupid o'clock three-hour drive. Ollie wished Mel and the listeners who had made it that far safe travels and a happy parkrun day enjoyed their way, then gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 368 - Gooey buttercake flavoured goodness
Mel said she was off on an adventure to North Wollongong to catch up with some Sydney friends, maybe even Bec Bailey, and TOC checked whether that was the course they had used as a Friday Freedo in the Shellharbour palm year; TOC said he had no idea where he would be, somewhere local in Gippsland after an eight-hour-each-way road trip, either working on a p-index or back at the sunny stump for a swim afterwards. He then reminded everyone to get their skin checked, mentioning a fairly large lump cut off his leg late last year and that the Australian of the Year is a parkrunner, and Mel thanked him for joining her, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 367 - YMMV
Mel broke the run sheet order and asked Ollie first: he said it was copy and paste, run directing at Shellharbour, and that all going to plan one of his children would complete her parkrun again, and Mel praised him as a very good volunteer as shown by his recent award. Mel then said this was one of the very infrequent occasions when she could not attend a parkrun because she had to work, and would be back in two weeks, asking adventurers for extra vicarious adventures. Ollie trailed a few more palm24 details for the next podcast or two, thanked Mel for having him back, then gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 366 - Euphony
Mel said she would stay local and go to Studley parkrun for round two with the lawnmower, thinking some people she wanted to catch up with would be hanging out there; Ollie said it was Shellharbour for him, and that the day before he was doing the running leg of the Aquathon with adventurer Bec Bailey swimming, up against two others of the Windang clan in another team including Lance, who he expected to disappear off into the sunrise ahead of him. Mel wished him luck, said it had been good to catch up and that he was joining from his caravan park on holiday with the girls quiet in the background, then gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 365 - Tick Tocky
Mel said she had another week at home and would head back up to Pucca for their first week back after the Christmas and New Year break, and invited the whole adventurer community to the birthday of the junior parkrun at Eynesbury on the Sunday, where she was run directing and still had volunteer spaces to fill; Simon said he was undecided between three events he had not done - North Lakes, Kedron or Chermside - after the one he had aimed for looked rained out again, and they discussed flood risk with Brisbane already saturated. Mel thanked Simon for joining her and for hearing about his Christmas and New Year, Simon thanked her for having him for the third Monday of the month and said he would be back in a month, then gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 364 - Bumping Uglies
Ollie said this week's episode would be the last for the year before a short summer break and asked Mel's plans: she was road-tripping to Jindabyne that Saturday, spending Christmas Day at her own home parkrun Toolern Creek with Brendan Peel and Jodie Maisie, then heading to South Australia for Copper Trail on the 30th, Port Broughton on New Year's Day and Memorial Park on the 6th, camping in the Clare Valley with Belinda Taylor flying in from Queensland and Martine and Andrew coming across with their caravan. Ollie said he would be at Shellharbour that Saturday either running, possibly paced by Zali, or volunteering, was run directing on the 30th and the 1st, and had no plan yet for the 6th. They pulled a figurative Christmas bonbon and swapped two cracker jokes, then Ollie gave the Facebook and email contacts, wished everyone a safe and merry Christmas and thanked Mel, The Office Lady, everyone behind the scenes, the Channel 5 News crew, all the guests, Rachel and the birthday boy for their part in 2023.
Episode 363 - Old Farts and Old Ducks
Ollie noted that next week's episode would be the last for the year ahead of a short summer break, then asked Mel where she planned on being ugly for Ugly Christmas Singlet and Shirt Day; she said she had no idea, with a teenager at home and nothing scheduled, while Ollie said he would be at Shellharbour run directing and intended to be as ugly as possible, dragging along any of the family who had their uglies to hand. He gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week, saying they would see everyone next week one last time that year.
Episode 362 - West is best
Mel said she was jumping on a plane to Sydney to go to Campbelltown, an event she knew nothing about and would learn on arrival, and invited local adventurers to come and make a frond; TOC said he was heading off early to a little race up on a hill and would be in Melbourne on the way, doing Kirkdale if Dano was home and otherwise something like Aurora. Mel thanked TOC for joining her two weeks in a row, said Ollie should be back next week and hoped he had recovered, then gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 361 - TOC’s budgies
Mel said she had not recovered from last week, had to stay local, and would be somewhere Melbourne metro-ish probably working on her p-index, and might fess up in the Friday post; TOC said they had not decided either and would possibly venture down to Melbourne to revisit a parkrun and catch up with friends, also posting on the Friday. In between they reminded travelling adventurers to check destination start times over the holidays, noting exceptions such as Devonport in Tasmania, and Mel explained that Ollie was absent because he was sick, thanked TOC for stepping in, wished Ollie well and congratulated him on his half cow - his 50th unique event at Kingston in Tasmania - and on completing the Point to Pinnacle again, before TOC gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 360 - gggrrriverside
Simon said that might be it for the week and asked Mel, who said a last-minute change of plans had her flying to WA for Newcastle Park parkrun - her '2J' - subject to the flights going ahead and her recovering from the red-eye, catching up with Sarah from the West Side and Matt; Simon said he was heading to Rocks Riverside for the third time to meet the Event Directors and Run Directors of the Brisbane events he looks after as an ambassador. They then compared the event numbers of Redland Bay and Karkarook, about a year apart in launch date, before Mel thanked Simon for joining her, noted he joins on the third Monday of every month and that it had been an interrupted recording, and Simon gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed.
Episode 359 - Rrrrriverside
Mel said she was hanging local again and would likely be at Karkarook parkrun, which she called Karki Parki and named as Chris Ruse's home parkrun; Ollie said he would be at Kingston Park parkrun in Tassie, in lutruwita, hoping to finally hit event number 50 and maybe get his little brother along, and explained he was back in Tasmania for a second attempt at the Point to Pinnacle half marathon from Wrest Point Casino in Hobart, in nipaluna, up kunanyi or Mount Wellington, having just hit his fundraising goal for Carrie's Beanies for Brain Cancer. Mel told him to watch out for Martine Barrot, entered as a walker, and Andrew Johnston, who would be chasing him up the mountain, wished them luck, and Ollie gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 358 - Log a Nottie
Mel said she had no adventure planned and was not leaving the state, so she would return to an event she had done and maybe work on her p-index, which she thought was seven, joking that people could invite her to a party or make her low-carb cupcakes; TOC said he had no idea either, but with middle son Daniel home chasing his 49th different event they would probably head into Gippsland and do one of the Latrobe Valley events, and they talked about where a 14th Gippsland event could fit. TOC explained he had meant to record a roving report but 45km/h winds at the finish line made it unusable, and Mel gave the Facebook and email contacts, thanked TOC for joining her and closed for another week.
Episode 357 - Stop watch
Mel said she was staying in her home state to catch up on housework and would go to the newly launched Goulburn River Trail parkrun at Seymour for its second week; Ollie said he would be at home next parkrun day, thought he was run directing, and would not be parkrunning the week after. He thanked Mel for having him, saying it was rare for him to do two episodes in a row, Mel thanked him for coming back in October's five-Monday month, and he gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 356 - All power to the editor
Ollie said he was run directing at home at Shellharbour and staying close because his daughter Ava was down with COVID, hoping she would recover in time to wear her brand new junior 10 milestone shirt at a possibly Halloween-themed event suggested by another junior volunteer; Mel said she was flying into Sydney to catch up with cheetahs taking part in an ultra event on the northern beaches and would sneak off to Greenway parkrun, an event new to her that she believed was Catherine O'Connor's local. Ollie praised the Greenway course, park and volunteers, Mel remarked on a helicopter going overhead, then she gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 355 - Mimosas and Jell shots
Simon said he could not join the Panorama Punish because he lived in Queensland now and had a cousin's wedding, and would run to and from Kirra parkrun for the fourth or fifth time; Mel said that rather than repeat Bathurst she was going to Orange, a new event for her, about which she knew nothing but the name. They then spent several minutes on the koala statues near Kirra, with Simon looking up that they were the Animals with Attitude Gold Coast Sculpture Trail, 40 of them placed between 2013 and 2015 as a fundraiser for Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, before Mel invited listeners to play spotto and Simon gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 354 - It’sa Mario
Ollie said he would not be speaking to Mel on the pod again until he saw her at the Punish, then asked her plans: she was venturing to the Mornington Peninsula for her eldest daughter's wedding on the Friday, staying overnight and doing Rosebud beach parkrun on the Saturday with her sister Cassie, who had promised to pack her runners and barcode if Mel went in the water afterwards. Ollie congratulated her daughter and wished them a wonderful day, and said he would be back at Schlaba expecting to volunteer, staying close to home for someone else's birthday and preparing for his next adventure the week after, before Mel gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 353 - Mel’s a dot
Mel said she had another flight and was heading to New South Wales, thinking she would check out Parramatta, a top-100 list event; TOC said they would travel a long way just up the road to Inverloch, staying close to home because Victoria had bushfires burning with towns evacuated and a flood alert issued for the Wednesday. They then wished Oliver Spake a happy birthday for the coming Saturday, a milestone birthday falling on parkrun day, before TOC gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 352 - Black and White Army
Ollie said he would be at Shellharbour parkrun once again and asked Mel, who said she was joining Martine and Andrew at Batemans Bay; Ollie said Batemans Bay was one of his favourites but he had a birthday party for Ava to attend and host, and Mel said she would forgive him if he wore black and white. Mel said she would see him in a couple of weeks, wished him a good birthday and enjoyment of the surrounding festivities, then gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 351 - Missing Magpies
Mel said she was back to adventuring and heading west to Seacliff Esplanade in South Australia, travelling with Martine and Andrew and taking Zoe because it was school holidays; Simon said he was staying close to home and going to Cleveland to work his p-index up to seven, probably pairing Cleveland with Scribbly Gum or Redland Bay. Mel fumbled the rewritten sign-off script, then remembered to thank Simon for joining her again (he said he would see her in a month) before giving the Facebook and email contacts and closing for another week.
Episode 350 - Black and White
Ollie said he could not think of anything else coming up in the parkrun world and asked where Mel would be that parkrun day; she said she was staying local and returning to a local parkrun because her daughter's bridal shower was on the Saturday afternoon and she had Mother of the Bride duties, while Ollie said he would be at Shellharbour, where he expected to be for the next month, volunteering or parkrunning on the Saturday because he was running on the Sunday. They both looked ahead to The Punish on 21 October, with Ollie camping alongside a Shellharbour contingent of three, before Ollie thanked Mel and everyone for their contributions and company, gave the parkrun adventurers Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 349 - Big Swoop
Mel asked TOC where he would be next parkrun day and he said Inverloch's ninth anniversary, a dress-to-glow theme with cake, which he reckoned put him in seventh heaven and which he was assured would be sunny; Mel said she had plans afoot but was not ready to divulge them and would fess up on Friday in the Office Lady's Friday post. She thanked TOC for joining her again, said it had been good to catch up, and gave the parkrun adventurers Facebook page and email address before signing off.
Episode 348 - Cat Amongst the Magpies
Ollie turned their attention to next parkrun day: Mel said she was going to Ballina parkrun, which she knew little about beyond it being the event that came off second best to Kingscliff for the eastern compass point, travelling up with Martine Barrot for an overnighter; Ollie said he had all the gear so would be setting up the course at home at Shellharbour, and might then get across to a frond at North Wollongong parkrun, a course he recommended through Puckeys Estate lagoon and the mangroves, just down the road from his dad's place. Ollie thanked everyone for getting in touch, directed listeners to the parkrun adventurers Facebook page rather than personal accounts and to the email address, and signed off telling everyone to get streaking.
Episode 347 - What Windmill?
Mel said it was time to look forward and they took Streaky September Bingoe card suggestions - the intern asked for hill-climbing challenges as training for the Punish and Mount Panorama's 174 metres of elevation, Mel suggested returning to an event for a second time, and Simon suggested volunteering in a role you have never done - with more welcome by email before the card is made. Simon said he was heading back to Sydney for the third weekend running, to Whalan on Darug Country, to complete his Rayfarers, the 30-event regional challenge named for Cathy Ray; Mel was taking her little green car on a long drive to Parkindula Reserve parkrun near Mount Barker in South Australia for its event 17, hoping to say cooee to Anne Fry. Mel thanked Simon, noted he was on the roster for the third Monday of the month, and closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 346 - Wonder Woman
Mel called time to look forward with September upon them, and they trailed Streaky September and the Bingoe card, inviting listener suggestions by email and explaining the two kilometres a day, the Facebook group and that the spelling comes from Scotty. Ollie said he was at home at Shellharbour with Bec Bailey putting on the Run Director's vest, having managed only one adventure on his travels, his 49th different event at Varsity Lakes; Mel was heading back to Diamond Creek parkrun to meet Craig Ryan for his 250th and invited others to join. Under housekeeping Mel proposed a shared document of festivals and events to align with parkrun tourism, and the episode was cut off mid-joke as Ollie began to say that Palm 2024, on 13 April, would be in Toowoomba.
Episode 345 - Level 2 with hygge
TOC moved them along from parkrun global domination to next Saturday: Mel said she would be at the largest frond at Centennial parkrun, the catch-up before the City to Surf, a new event that would continue her tourism streak and one she was keen to see for its famous horse marshal; TOC said he and Jack were heading up to Kilmore Racecourse Walking Track for its event 12, one of the greater state events launched while they were in Europe. The episode ended on a gag, with TOC tidying Ollie's desk and starting to read out a post-it saying palm24 would be on 13 April, cut off by Mel's sign-off with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 344 - Guess Who?
Mel turned to looking forward with a reminder that the City to Surf was two weeks away and the adventurers frond would be at Centennial parkrun, and relayed an email setting out the costume requirements and pre-event adjudication for the Wonder Woman Guinness World Record attempt, offering to forward the details. She said she was staying near home again and going to Studley parkrun to catch up with Bec Bailey, newly home from her holiday, which kept her 36-event tourist streak intact, while Simon was returning to Scribbly Gum to lift his P-index from six to seven. Mel said she would be recording with TOC the following week while Ollie was still away, and Simon, who had stepped in because Sarah was unwell, gave the Facebook page and email contacts and signed off.
Episode 343 - Favourite Things
Ollie said they had come to the point of looking ahead and reminded listeners of the frond at Centennial parkrun on Saturday 12 August, 7am start, with City to Surf bib pickup at Moore Park; Mel explained that a frond takes its name from PALM, the parkrun adventurers Listener Meetup, and prodded Ollie about sourcing his Wonder Woman costume. They announced that neither would be on the next episode, as both were at FIFA Women's World Cup matches, and that Simon and Sarah would step in. Mel said she was joining the Office Lady and her Luke at Newy parkrun, a four-letter event for her pyramid, and Ollie was on the Gold Coast, undecided between Varsity Lakes and Kirra, before flying to Sydney and taking the train to Melbourne, then run directing the week after.
Episode 342 - 26
Mel said time was ticking and it was time to look forward: they announced the City to Surf weekend frond at Centennial parkrun on Saturday 12 August, a 7am start handy for bib collection down the road at Moore Park, and trailed Ugly Christmas in July on the coming Saturday, which was also a 22 and so a tutu day. Mel said she was staying local at Altona Beach parkrun to work on her P-index and celebrate fellow adventurer Nicola Wright's 250th, and Ollie said he was at home run directing at Shellharbour with at least two of his girls in tow before going interstate, while both admitted to being distracted by the FIFA Women's World Cup. They signed off with the socials and email and wished everyone a happy Ugly Christmas in July.
Episode 341 - On the buses
Ollie prompted the looking-forward, trailing Ugly Christmas in July on 22 July with no new releases this year, and they announced there would be no recording the following week as Mel was taking a break from editing while her mum visited. Mel said she had no idea where she would be next parkrun day and Ollie expected a quiet one at home at Shellharbour, running rather than run directing, as he trained for the Sydney Marathon and still had to acquire Sid's costume for the City to Surf, for which he thanked the helpers, supporters and enablers who had reminded him. They noted it was NAIDOC week with the theme 'for our elders' before the contacts and sign-off.
Episode 340 - Homework
Mel said it was time to say where they would be next week: Sarah was finally adventuring, flying to Malaysia to tick off the country's only parkrun, where she would meet Helen and Stephen Davis for a frond and expected to meet Mel's friend Harry; Mel and the Office Lady were heading to South Australia and Kangaroo Island to start her birthday month, prompting a run of jokes about a Festival of Mel on tour. Mel thanked Sarah for stepping in for Ollie over the past two weeks and closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 339 - West Side Story
Mel took the statesman ladder as a segue to next parkrun day: she was heading to Maroondah Dam parkrun in Healesville to regain her Victorian statesmanship, having held off a week so Zoe could come and they could visit Healesville Sanctuary afterwards. Stand-in co-host Sarah said she would be staying home and run directing at Cottesloe, hoping the mulch had been cleared off the course, before jetting off a couple of weeks later. Mel thanked Sarah for joining her and for the lowdown from the West Side, and gave the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 338 - Hitch ’em up
Mel said there was not much else for the outro section and asked Ollie first: he was run directing at home at Shellharbour with a couple of guests, welcoming back Shellharbour parkrunners who had been away, one of whom he had not seen since the run at the edge of the desert; Mel was overdue a long car trip and driving west to South Australia for Narooma Wetlands parkrun. Ollie then raised the City to Surf, with Mel confirming she had bought her entry in the Global Running Day promotion and reminding listeners the team to look for is adventurers Pod, and they joked about costumes before signing off with the socials and email.
Episode 337 - Interference
Ollie asked about the coming weekend: Mel said she had her Toowoomba visitors but genuinely did not know where she was going and listeners would have to tune in next week, and Ollie said he would be run directing for Shellharbour parkrun's ninth birthday on a cat theme, hunting out his cheetah and as much leopard print as possible. Mel then noted that the Shellharbour people who had been at Coober Pedy had not posted in Dazza's, unlike those in Birdsville, before thanking first-time listeners for sticking with them, giving the Facebook and email contacts and signing off.
Episode 336 - Kagerzoomie
Mel said it was the point in the pod where they check in on Saturday morning, and this week they were meeting: Ollie was coming down to Melbourne to join Mel at the newly launched Woodlands Historic Park parkrun in Greenvale, both collecting a number two, with Mel guessing from the crystal ball that the course would be off-road and undulating. They then wished the Office Lady, Sam, well for the 50 kilometre event at the Simpson Desert Ultra near Birdsville the following weekend, praising the training she had put in, and closed with the Facebook, socials and email contacts.
Episode 335 - Soldier’s Five
Ollie said the recapping was done and it was time to look forward, noting National Reconciliation Week was coming: Mel said she had a very early Friday flight and would be somewhere in South Australia, location yet to be determined, and Ollie said he would be somewhere in Sydney after going up to Vivid with Kathy the night before, undecided between a new event out of the city and a handy inner-city one. He confirmed Sydney's longest run for Sunday 11 June, they agreed to recap the longest runs the following week, and Mel gave the Facebook and email contacts before signing off.
Episode 334 - parkrun Voyager
Ollie turned from the longest run dates to the coming parkrun day: Mel would not declare her hand, having been touting Dixon Field but possibly going elsewhere, and Ollie said he was run directing at home at Shellharbour before two weeks on the road. Ollie then said he had been remiss in not wishing Mel a happy Mother's Day, and she said she had caught up with three of her five children - Sarah and Jake visiting, Olivia in the air home from Italy and Madeline the week before - plus her own mum on the Saturday. Ollie thanked Rachel for supporting his case to amend the dictionary and gave the Facebook, socials and email contacts.
Episode 333 - Corgi Butt Buns
Mel said Cam's Palm interviews would be dropped in after the finish music over the coming weeks, then asked stand-in co-host Simon his plans: he was in two minds between Redland Bay and somewhere near Jackson's soccer game, mindful of the tourist streak he had run since 1 January at Lota. Mel said she did not know either but had a strong feeling she would end up at Tallangatta Station for its third event. She thanked Simon warmly for stepping in for Ollie, wished him a week without medical emergencies, and signed off with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 332 - Severn Swather
Ollie said the short pod meant it was time to look forward: Mel was flying to Sydney and taking the train to Wollongong for Sandon Point parkrun, and Ollie was staying close to home for birthday weekend in the Spake household, a parkrun and dash before the Run Shellharbour half marathon the next day. They then flagged that Ollie would be away the following week for a busy household weekend, with Mel keeping the identity of her already-booked co-host secret, and signed off with the Facebook, socials and email contacts.
Episode 331 - Quokka Quest
After thanking David Messenger for stepping in with the Consolidated Club Report while Mel was away, Ollie turned to the horizon: Mel said she was heading out to country Victoria to the newly launched Yackandandah Rail Trail parkrun to see what had happened while her back was turned, and Ollie said he was travelling a much shorter distance, on Run Director duty at home at Shellharbour in forecast pouring rain. They chatted about the aurora and the mild Melbourne weather, Mel called the end of episode 331, and Ollie thanked her for sharing her time on the West Side and passed on his own appreciation to the gift givers before the contacts and sign-off.
Episode 330 - palm23
At the live Palm 2023 recording, Ollie thanked the Channel 5 News crew and everyone who had made palm23 possible - the podcast team, the parkrun team and the adventurers community - then ran the where-next exchange: Mel said she was going to Margaret River, Ollie planned Shellharbour though he was not sure he was on the roster yet, and the crowd shouted out their own destinations. Mel said she could not guarantee when the episode would be released as she was in WA another week, asked that suggestions for next year's Palm go to Ollie, and closed with the email and socials.
Episode 329 - Winter Waffle
Ollie asked Mel what was on the horizon and she said she had no plans for the coming Saturday, her efforts going into preparing for Palm; they then announced there would be no episode the following week, the break running until episode 330, the live Palm 2023 recording, because Mel flies to WA a week early and cannot edit. They said the live episode was live only in front of an audience and would be released later, that Dazza's would stay open through the break though with no Obi on offer, and Ollie said he was heading to a new event, Werrington Lakes Reserve near Penrith, where adventurer Catherine Pirotta was run directing for the first time. He made a last call for Palm, gave the Facebook and email contacts, and said they would see everyone at Palm.
Episode 328 - Sterkte
Ollie turned to looking forward with news that entries had opened for the Panorama Punish, which Mel had nearly clashed with when booking a Sydney weekend in October. Mel said she was undecided for next parkrun day, having noted 'undecided' in the show notes, but was run directing at juniors on the Sunday with a Duke of Ed volunteer graduating into the Run Director vest, and it was Market Week at Eynesbury; Ollie said he was staying home to deliver event kit gear, not needed on the roster, so perhaps a trundle. They closed with the Facebook and email contacts.
Episode 327 - Off Script
Mel asked where they would be next week: Ollie said he would be at Shellharbour again in a different colour vest, shadowing a new Run Director rather than directing himself, and Mel said she was catching a flight to North Sydney parkrun for what she understood was a Medibank event, hoping to meet some celebrities and keeping an eye out for David Crook, whose home parkrun it is. They remarked how quickly the episode had gone, gave the Facebook, email, Instagram and Twitter contacts, and signed off.
Episode 326 - Song sung blue?
Ollie's sung rendition of Bill Ellis's Jerrabomberra Mountain lyrics led straight into next parkrun day: Mel said she was road-tripping to the ACT to run Jerrabomberra Mountain, a New South Wales event that would be her fourth J, with something special she would not reveal until Dazza's; Ollie said he would be volunteering at his home event, Shellharbour parkrun, shadowing a trainee Run Director and staying close to home until Palm. Mel added that the adventurers shirts had been made to order after orders closed around 19 February and should arrive late March, in time for Palm, before Ollie thanked the week's contributors and wrapped it up.
Episode 325 - Wake up, Jodi!
Ollie called time to look forward and Mel said she was flying north to the Sunshine Coast for Kawana parkrun, a long-held ambition after doing it as a Freedom Run around Palm 2021, with Mel Erbacher alongside her and hoping to catch up with John from the parkrun Party Song. Ollie said he would be adventuring at home for Kathy's birthday, running quickly or volunteering before the family headed to Sydney for Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, the aquarium and the Rainbow Pride concert closing World Pride. He plugged Palm, the parkrun adventurer Listener Meetup, now inside two months, gave the Facebook and email contacts, thanked Mel and signed off.
Episode 324 - Radio prA
Ollie said next parkrun day would be a lot of fun and asked where it would take Mel: another car trip, taking her newly adjusted car west over the border to South Australia's newest event, Mariah Creek Reserve. Ollie was on the annual extended family getaway to Lake Conjola on the New South Wales south coast, and with Huskisson parkrun cancelled that weekend he would duck down to Batemans Bay parkrun again - his equal third most visited event, on three visits. Mel closed the short and punchy podcast, explaining it gave her an easier week after a busy weekend editing, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 323 - Big Things
Ollie asked what was coming up this parkrun day: Mel reported Kawana parkrun's 500th event on the Saturday, with the podcast's original host Mel Erbacher run directing her 200th volunteer stint there on the tenth anniversary of her volunteering at the event, to be followed by a launch party for the parkrun Party song. Ollie added that the Office Lady had sweet-talked the supplier into a 48-hour extension on the adventurers top orders, to midnight Sunday 19 February, open to anyone, with the hope of wearing them at UWA parkrun at Palm on 15 April. Mel then asked about his parkrun day and he said he would be run directing a Pride Week parkrun at Shellharbour, hoping to add colour to his black and white vest and bring the girls along. He gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 322 - Rise of the Machines
Saying it had been a very long section, Mel suggested wrapping up and asked where Ollie would be next week: he was being coy, with no plans set but looking north if he could, and would be run directing the week after at their World Pride event. Mel was heading to Frankston Nature Conservation Reserve parkrun for her second visit, meeting Brendan Peel and Jodie Maisie there and picking up Chris Fraser in the city as a travel buddy, which Ollie welcomed as Chris had been a wonderful local support. Mel said that wrapped them up, gave the Facebook, email, Instagram and Twitter contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 321 - GO!
Ollie asked which direction Mel was heading next parkrun day: out to the most recent Victorian launch at Calembeen, about an hour's drive west, assuming she got her car back after it did a clutch. Ollie did not know - he was not needed in the Run Director vest, might have a run, and had to work out logistics around his daughter's new dance classes - and Mel said she would stalk him on the 5K app. He said that was all the news and all the looking ahead, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 320 - Summer Holidays
Ollie noted Mel's holiday was keeping her on the road for next parkrun day: she was doing another South Australian event, Oaklands Estate Reserve, which she knew nothing about yet, and meeting up with Sarah from the West Side. Ollie would be back run directing at Shellharbour, among the first to debut the new volunteer vests, on Triple J Hottest 100 day. They discussed the new vests - black and white for Run Directors, red for most others and high-vis yellow for Tail Walkers, with juniors keeping the old blue and white. He hoped she enjoyed the rest of her holiday week and trailed a new segment, Mel's Book Club; Mel gave the Facebook, email, Twitter and Instagram contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 319 - Alphabet Ears
Ollie asked whether the ACT results had inspired Mel to head back north: instead she was heading west to Goolwa in South Australia with Zoe and Zoe's friend Alicia for a week, and would be tail walking at a junior event at Thorndon on the Sunday. Ollie was run directing at home at Shellharbour, getting the boss jacket but not Darwin, with nothing else planned beyond April. He said he would step off the soapbox, thanked Mel for another week and for sharing her adventures, thanked everyone, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 318 - parkrun, if you’re listening
Ollie thanked Mel for the club report and asked what was coming up next parkrun day: Aintree Heritage Trail junior parkrun was celebrating its second birthday with a cake baked by volunteer Janelle and a roster already full, and after that Mel planned to tourist, travelling north up the Hume, keeping the destination a mystery. Ollie might not parkrun at all, with a moving van booked at 8am for his daughter and her boyfriend. He wished her safe travels and a nice parkrun day; Mel took the outro with the Facebook, email, Twitter and Instagram contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 317 - The Office Lady Option
Presenting the holiday episode alone so Mel and Ollie could take a break, the Office Lady rounded off the Channel 5 News crew's 2023 goals and gave her own with Luke: spending one weekend a month in non-participation volunteer roles to give regular volunteers a break, visiting 20 new events, and joining the Peel Club at Palm in April. Before her goodbyes she asked whether listeners had seen the Christmas gift on the Facebook page, plugged the paid "Office Lady Special" printed challenge card with logo stickers and orders closing Sunday night 8 January, hoped they had enjoyed the summer light episode, gave the Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and email contacts and wished everyone fun wherever they were parkrunning.
Episode 316 - InSantagram
Mel asked whether Ollie was at home next Saturday: he was run directing on Christmas Eve and would be absent from parkrun on Christmas Day, while Mel was taking a road trip west to Edenhope to join Victoria's newest parkrun at Lake Wallace, camping overnight, before going local to Toolern Creek on Christmas Day with family coming for lunch. They thanked the Office Lady, revealing she is an English teacher who had just rewritten the New South Wales English syllabus and who tidies up their Facebook page, and extended Christmas thanks to the whole community, the Channel 5 News crew, the art director, the fill-ins and stand-in co-hosts, The Informant and the Channel 2 News crew. They swapped new year plans - Mel hoping again for a tourism trip taking in a rodeo, Ollie hoping for New Zealand parkruns around Women's World Cup matches - told a bonbon joke about InSantagram, and Ollie thanked Mel for another year of podcasting, wished everyone a happy and safe Christmas, gave the contacts and said they would see everyone next year.
Episode 315 - Honey Stud
Ollie said there was plenty to cover next week and asked where Mel was going: she refused to say, wanting it to be a surprise so the event would not know she was coming. Ollie said he would be at Shellharbour, holding the Run Director vest a few times over the coming month, and confirmed he had ordered all the ugly Christmas gear and would be wearing it, layered. Mel took the outro, giving the Facebook and email contacts and saying that was it for another week.
Episode 314 - Records & Legends
Asked what there was to look forward to, Simon and Mel batted away the World Cup, tennis and cricket, and then swapped plans: Simon would probably be on the Gold Coast doing one of the events at the southern end he had not done before, though he had not picked which, and Mel was not sure either but was due a long drive north, maybe in the vicinity of Goulburn, where she hoped she might see Melissa Currie, and she hinted at a possible launch in Victoria that week. Simon gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 313 - #getyourfeetwet
Ollie asked where Mel was off to that week: time restraints meant she was heading back to Puckapunyal to run the trails. Ollie was on holidays, on an extended family trip up north, going to Hamilton Island parkrun and celebrating Hannah's 50th parkrun. Mel realised that meant he would not be around the following week and said she would hold the fort while he was off gallivanting. She recapped that he was off to Hamilton Island and she to Pucka, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 312 - parkrun party
Ollie turned to looking ahead and said he was at home run directing, then asked whether Mel would make a parkrun: she hoped to get out to Ballarat's relocated event, Prince of Wales parkrun, for event two, though she had a busy Saturday and a limb that needed recovery. Ollie hoped she had a nice parkrun day, thanked her for her kind words and support, listed the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts and the email address, and said that was it for another week.
Episode 311 - Green Eggs & Snoods
Mel noted they already knew where Ollie would be next week - heading to Queen's Domain and then his big event, Point to Pinnacle - and wished him well; he said he was excited to get back to Nipaluna land in southeastern Tasmania, was very underprepared but would give it his best, would track it on Strava and text photos from the top, and hoped for snow. Mel, who could not drive at the time, hoped to hitch a lift to Toolern Creek and up her Peel Ellis Cup numbers. She thanked Ollie for joining her, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 310 - Cheers
Ollie asked Mel what was on the horizon: she was catching a flight north on Friday to visit the podcast's quiz master, Simon Mackley, and attend Calamvale's eighth birthday, and had to find a costume that would fit in her carry-on. Ollie was having his last stint at home before travelling, volunteering in whatever role needed filling, and talked through his mountain half-marathon preparation and the reno, holiday and World Cup ahead. He wished Mel safe travels and a fantastic parkrun as part of the birthday celebration, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 309 - Bruce & Gill Fordyce
Ollie asked where parkrun was taking Mel next week: she was not ready to think about it but might get to Boort, which is Nolan's Park parkrun, an event she still needed to regain her complete set of Victorian events, floodwaters permitting. Ollie planned to stay at home at Shellharbour, probably volunteering, with a couple of milestones to celebrate, before a fleeting trip to Tasmania with Cathy on the 19th for Queen's Domain. He thanked Mel for the long pod, for the interview and for being his fellow adventurer camping in the rain; she gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 308 - Top 3
Scotty said that as fill-ins they had managed an hour-long episode and were going to wrap it up, told Mel he loved podcasting with her and floated his reunion pod idea - bringing back early guests - if Mel and Ollie would have them back, though not for a couple of weeks or months. He wished Mel a wonderful time at Kawana that week, volunteering, running or walking; she promised to wear the neon and eat the cake and looked forward to a photo of his crazy hat, which he said might just be a beanie. They signed off with "see you all whenever".
Episode 307 - Cops & Robbers
Mel announced that next week's pod would be different: she was taking a week off, so the inaugural hosts Mel and Scotty were coming back as guest hosts and the keys were being handed back. Ollie linked that to where Mel was going next parkrun day - Bathurst for the weekend, for Bathurst parkrun and the Panorama Punish, camping and thanking Jen and Stephen for putting the event on and welcoming the adventurers - while Ollie looked forward to volunteering at Bathurst parkrun and seeing the adventurers there. He said he would leave the keys and the tidied post-its, gave the email address that was also the guest hosts', and signed off for two weeks.
Episode 306 - King Gizzard
Ollie thanked Mel for the stats and asked her plan for next parkrun day: she was staying close to home with a two and a half hour drive, hoping to talk her family into an overnight trip to the country town of Boort, and Ollie would be staying home to run direct again, aiming to challenge for the largest volunteer frond and hinting at a "Bailey's style" celebration. Mel told him to have early nights and get well with hot lemon and honey after his coughing, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 305 - You’ve Got Mail!
After thanking Mel for the Consolidated Club Report, Ollie asked her plans for next parkrun day: she was jetting off to Darwin with flights but no accommodation, landing after midnight and planning the closest parkrun to the airport or city, which she believed was Darwin, with juniors depending on how empty the roster was. Ollie would be volunteering in the blue and white vest at home at Shellharbour. He thanked everyone for tuning in, apologised for not keeping up a 1.3 times speaking pace and noted Bruce's tip for speeding them up, gave the email address and said that was it for another week.
Episode 304 - Let Us Entertain You
Mel said it was time to start wrapping things up and Ollie asked where she was off to next parkrun day: she had no idea, was not over the previous week and thought she might just post her decision on the Office Lady's Friday post, while Ollie would run direct at home at Shellharbour and look out for Cameron. Mel told him to go and get some sleep after his week in a tropical paradise, gave the email address and said that was it for another week.
Episode 303 - Home on the range
Simon asked where Mel was going next parkrun day: she was heading to North Parkes Oval in the New South Wales town of Parkes over the long weekend, a trip two years in the planning, taking the dogs and the dog pram and dragging Zoe and Paul along. Simon said he would not be parkrunning for the next two weekends - a wedding that weekend and then eight nights in Bali, their first overseas trip since COVID - and Mel wished him a good time. He gave the Facebook and email contacts, said that was it for another week and thanked Mel for having him.
Episode 302 - Lined Up
Mel asked what Ollie was doing next parkrun day and he said he was not doing one at all - he would be poolside in Fiji with no official parkrun there, though he would keep a freedom-run streak going and try to train for the Tasmanian mountains. Mel had left the week blank in her diary, was still recovering from the previous weekend and said she would spin an alphabet wheel and edit in the result at the last minute (the wheel landed on an R). Ollie thanked everyone for their contributions through the pod, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week, adding "we, not me, but the rest of you, we'll see you all next week".
Episode 301 - Thumbs Up
Mel said they should cut it short after a mammoth pod and asked where Ollie would be on Saturday: he hoped to revisit Picton if his legs cooperated, otherwise back at his local event, while Mel was going to Queensland to tour Yowie parkrun and, the part she was most looking forward to, Des Connor Park Juniors. Ollie wished her a wonderful trip and thanked everyone for staying on board for a meaty podcast; Mel thanked Ollie for joining her, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
Episode 300 - Tricentennial
Ollie wished everyone happy streaking and asked where the coming parkrun day would take Mel: she was off to the brand-new Beaufort Lakes parkrun at Beaufort in western Victoria for event two, while Ollie had no idea but expected to pull on a volunteer vest somewhere local, being away the following parkrun day and chasing a volunteer goal. He then thanked Mel for recording the "tricentennial" episode with him and thanked everyone who had been part of the podcast, acknowledged Bruce and Tracy for their song suggestions after butchering a special running song of his own, pointed listeners to the kudo board, the Streaky September Bingoe card and the Facebook group, gave the email address and said that was it for another week.
Episode 299 - Buzz Buzz
Asked where she would be taking her streak next parkrun day, Mel said she was heading back out to Puckapunyal with a couple of parkrun adventurer friends. Ollie said he would be away in the northern Sydney area and had chosen Willoughby over Galston for his 40th different event, having only ever been there on a longest run. They then set up the promised episode 299 song, recalling former host Scotty's rendition of 99 Red Balloons in German on episode 99, with Ollie confirming he would attempt one, apologising that he had taken up none of the listeners' suggestions and that it would not be a duet, before Mel gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 298 - Not Flat
Mel said she was going to Frank Keenan Reserve parkrun at Yarrawonga, Victoria's newest event, a border town up on the Murray River that she had been wanting to get to. Ollie said it had been a fairly big pod that he would try to edit down, trailed another Poem Zone entry, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 297 - The one when Mel sings
Ollie asked whether Mel was excited about next week's fronds; she said it would be interesting to see how many turned up at Cooks River or were in town for City to Surf, which she reckoned was the 50th physical running after a virtual edition in lockdown, and said she would be dressing up in a shade of yellow. They noted Liam Adams and their recent guest Aidan Hobbs were both racing and joked about leaving the informants in charge of the office, before trailing the long-awaited return of The Poem Zone. Mel took over the sign-off, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it, almost, for another week.
Episode 296 - Hot and Gold
Mel said she was staying in Victoria and going local, back to Kirkdale Reserve for Jodie Maisie's 50th parkrun and Hoffman Club; Ollie said that with Cooks River coming up and another set of 250 milestones back at home he thought he would stay home. Ollie said it felt like a big week in which he had virtually been to a lot of places, thanked everyone for involving them in their parkrun adventures, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 295 - Aidan Hobbs
Mel said she was going on a road trip to get her U at Umbagong District parkrun in the ACT, never having managed to reach the other two U events at Underwood and Yeronga, and would catch up with Will, who was on the volunteer roster. Ollie said he was going for the hat trick, volunteering at home and possibly bringing the kids, hoping to get Zali scanning some barcodes. They hoped Abby was happier with the previous week's recording after her challenge to up their game, Mel said it was good to have Ollie back, and they gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 294 - the new U
Asked where she was going for the next parkrun day, Mel said she would return to Puckapunyal, which she can enter as a military member with the appropriate pass, and they talked over how good a course it is and the case for a future parkrun at Seymour. Scott said that a few days out he had no idea, but might head to Parkville to catch up with a former colleague in town, recounting that he had met the original founder and measured the course that is still used, and promising to report back. Mel thanked him for stepping into Ollie's shoes for the night; he said he had loved it, would gladly fill in again, and read the outro with the Facebook and email contacts, adding afterwards that it had indeed been scripted.
Episode 293 - Hackers
Ollie wished Mel a happy birthday for the week; she said it was the first year in three she was not in lockdown for it and she was looking forward to family, dinner out and parkrun day, where she would take Harry from Malaysia to the You Yangs so he could tick off his Y - on Harry's birthday too. Ollie said he did not plan to venture far and might just volunteer depending on how the roster fell, noting he had not run an official parkrun on his event's new course since it changed at the start of January. He thanked Mel and everyone, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 292 - Floods, Cows & Milkshakes
Mel said circumstances were keeping her to her local area, so she would join a little frond at Kirkdale Reserve parkrun, the event she needed to regain her statesmanship and had been keeping in her back pocket. Ollie said he was scheduled to run direct at the newly renamed parkrun in the Killalea Regional Park, but might have to seek out a new event if the rain continued. Mel took the sign-off, called it a bit of a shorter pod, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 291 - Because
Ollie said he had loose plans that would see him away from home, somewhere in New South Wales at a parkrun he had not done before, but would not reveal it as he had not made up his mind; Mel said she was keeping hers a secret too, beyond confirming she was going to adventure and get a new event. Ollie said that on that note they had nothing else to tell the listeners, thanked Mel and everyone, invited mail, roving reports and song suggestions, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 290 - 98, 99, 100!
Asked whether she was back at parkrun next week, Mel said she had deliberately planned an adventure after missing one: flying to Queensland just for the night, hoping for New Farm, and catching up with Tracey in a tutu; she also reminded Ollie that Eynesbury Heritage Trail junior parkrun was celebrating its 50th event on the Sunday. Ollie said he would be much closer to home, back in a volunteer vest and hoping to shadow a Run Director of the future. They wished each other an active parkrunning Saturday, thanked each other for the company, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 289 - Lorikeets are Metal
Ollie said his plans were in motion and he hoped to be at Doll's Point this weekend, revisiting a parkrun he had enjoyed because more lovely parkrun people were going; Mel said she was going nowhere, with a work training weekend keeping her from parkrun and off social media. They aired Bruce's suggestion that Ollie sing 'Ya Ya Ding Dong' for episode 299 (Mel objecting that it is in English and a duet), noted a tip from G-Train that former co-host Mel Erbacher was sitting on 249 volunteers, and flagged New Zealand's National Volunteer Week starting 19 June. Ollie thanked Sam for the amnesty, thanked Mel and everyone for indulging him, gave the Facebook and email contacts and signed off with 'no more Shell Harbour mentions'.

Mel said she had visitors and was staying home, welcoming Luke and Sam Schroder and adventuring with them to Altona Beach parkrun on the Saturday, with the Schroders also volunteering at Eynesbury junior parkrun on the Sunday for a junior frond. Ollie said he would be home for Shellharbour parkrun's eighth birthday, joining the 80s bandwagon and expecting baked goods from resident baker Bec Bailey. Mel thanked Ollie, then put him on notice to sing in Finnish at the end of episode 299 - as Scotty had sung in German on episode 99 - and asked listeners to write in and show their support, before giving the Facebook and email contacts and closing for another week.
Episode 287 - Rhubarb Lemonade
Asked what his goal was for next week, Mel said she would give the alphabet wheel another spin; Ollie said he would be more local, run directing back at Shell Harbour as the event's birthday approached, and wished someone a happy birthday. Mel hoped his event would go ahead, Ollie said he looked forward to seeing where the wheel took her and that it had been an absolute pleasure, and they gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.

Episode 285 - Better together
Asked where in the Southern Hemisphere she would be parkrunning next week, Mel said she genuinely had not made up her mind and would spin the alphabet wheel, having multiple events in her radius to choose from. Ollie refused to be pinned down, saying only that he hoped to head south of home to a new event and had locked it in. Mel accepted she could get no more out of him, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 284 - The Very Very Best Day
Mel said the Festival of Mel was happening, with the volunteer roster at Toolern Creek nearly all Mels and Floyd ready too, while Ollie said he was volunteering back home and looking forward to Eurovision, whose final was on SBS at 5am Sunday. They flagged the start of Australia's National Volunteer Week on 16 May and ran through the Longest Run dates posted so far - 12 June for Gippsland, Melbourne North, Melbourne West, two in Sydney and North Brisbane, and 19 June for Perth, South Australia and the Sunshine Coast - with Mel saying the dates were not in her favour this year. They then announced the date for Palm 2023: Saturday 15 April, in Western Australia and specifically the Perth area, before Ollie thanked Mel, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 283 - Eman Vergara
Mel said she had not yet decided where she would be on Saturday, and that Paul was heading to Frankston, having picked up two events in two weeks to peg back his statesmanship; Ollie said he would be somewhere predictable at his home event, wearing the jacket Peter had given him at Picton, on a weekend taking in Mother's Day, a daughter's and a mother's birthday and his wedding anniversary. They welcomed Singapore back and flagged Lower Hutt's 10th anniversary, which also marked 10 years of parkrun in New Zealand, thanking Alison for the tip. They wished each other and listeners a happy Mother's Day, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 282 - Cass Castleton
Mel noted the week's biggest frond was six adventurers at Warrandyte River Reserve and said that next week she was heading Ollie's way to Picton for a shindig with Sam Schroder, who had lined up her 100th parkrun, her 100th volunteer and her 100th time at Picton with the event's fourth birthday. Ollie then wrapped up so Mel could get on a plane, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 281 - Hoppy Easter
Ollie said it had been a pleasure, thanked Mel for the chat and everyone for their parkrun adventures, and said that although they wished they could keep recording right through and watch the marathon and cheer on Eman, it was time to wrap it up. He gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 280 - Breakout
Mel asked whether Ollie would be well enough to emerge from isolation; he said he was optimistic and hoped Shellharbour would go ahead for the Easter long weekend after a run of cancellations, though he was a bit scared to go and see how much of the course had eroded. Mel would not show her hand beyond saying she was headed north on Easter Saturday, doing only an overnighter so she would be back to help at junior parkrun on Sunday in matching rabbit onesies with Zoe. Ollie said it would be a shorter one as he was under the weather, thanked Mel, hoped everyone stayed well and got their parkruns back, gave the Facebook and email contacts and signed off with 'Go Eman'.
Episode 279 - Phil Gore
Ollie said he would not be back in Victoria this weekend; Mel said she was going to week two of Werribee Park Mansion, a local event with stunning grounds that she was excited about, without Paul, who was still working Saturdays, but expecting to meet a few other adventurers. Ollie said more rain was forecast and after another Shellharbour cancellation he would have to see how far he got down his flow chart of decision making, with the possibility of touristing a new event. Mel thanked him for catching up and said it had been nicer still to see him in person at Albert, before they gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 278 - Goldilocks
Ollie said he looked forward to seeing everyone's adventures over the coming week and asked Mel whether that was about it for the podcast; she said she had run out of things to talk about and offered to take requests. Ollie invited listeners to drop requests in the episode post, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 277 - Stumped
Mel said she would be at Toolern Creek working on the Peel Ellis Cup, a challenge laid down by Sir Brendan Peel to be first to 100 events at their home parkrun, with Brendan sitting on about 68 at Albert Melbourne; Ollie said he would be at Shell Harbour in the vest. They went on to trail the Bathurst camping trip, saying registrations should be open and were capped at 1200, floated course-map trivia for next year's Palm, and noted Paul had bought new runners and was getting back into running. Ollie said it had been wonderful reminiscing, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Episode 275 - palm22
Recorded live at the fifth listener meetup at Palm, the hosts turned from the day's vow-renewal ceremony to an outro of thank yous: to the Belle Reve parkrun team for hosting, to the Channel 5 News crew (presenting Tracy with a microphone and press pass, with Alison in New Zealand unable to attend), to TOC and Linda, to Chris the artistic director, to Abby, to the informant and the intern, to Dazza, to party planners TOC and Jackie, to their families and to each other. Ollie added thanks to Fiona and the team at the Hurricanes, and to Paul and Eric from Hobart Open Air for the recording equipment, and said he was from Tasmania and had not been back in 22 years. Episode 271 - Arise
Mel asked Ollie what was on his horizon for the next week and he said more of the same - Shellharbour. Mel was not sure she could parkrun at all, being required at work from 8am, and said she was reluctant to miss one now parkrun was actually running after so many lost to bushfires and COVID, promising to find a way if she could. Ollie wrapped up on that not-so-bright prospect, said they looked forward to hearing everyone else's experiences at Dazza's, gave the Facebook and parkrunadventurers@gmail.com contacts and signed off with "that is it for another week".
Episode 270 - The only way is up

Mel then teased that she would bundle Zoe into the car and head west across a border for a new event, not telling Chris because he was behind her on the most events list, and Ollie said he would be at Lake Conjola with extended family, probably revisiting Husky or Batemans Bay unless he had to dash back and volunteer. Mel signed off with the Facebook and parkrunadventures@gmail.com contacts, "hashtag be like Jeff", and "that's it for another week".

They then set 2022 goals - Ollie to finally get an event number two, a parkrun in a new state and his first in Melbourne; Mel to keep touring new events, grow the podcast and establish her Eynesbury juniors event - looked ahead to Palm in Tasmania, announced they were taking the following week off (emails and roving reports still welcome for a bumper episode in two weeks), thanked listeners and each other, and signed off with "that's it for another year" and happy new year.

Ollie said he would be wearing his Ugly Christmas Singlet and volunteering at Shellharbour for its return on 18 December, and Mel said she was having a family weekend away on a farm stay with Paul and Zoe, visiting an event within reach to pick up a Wilson number rather than a new event. They then reminded Wilson Index chasers to check the Christmas compendium for Christmas Day and New Year's Day cancellations, and Mel signed off with the Facebook and parkrunadventures@gmail.com contacts, a reminder to share Ugly Christmas Singlet or Shirt Day pictures on the event's Facebook page, and "that's it for another week".

Ollie asked Mel where the coming week would take her; she planned to bundle Zoe into the car on Friday afternoon for an overnighter to Nathalia Showgrounds parkrun, the new Victorian event launched that week, as a mother-daughter road trip. Mel announced that Victoria was back that week but that she would stay local because it was Zoe's birthday, possibly scanning her barcode at Maribyrnong parkrun where she had planned aparkrun instead. Episode 261 - Back in the ACT
Ollie asked whether there was anything on the horizon for Mel; she expected to stay close to home for a couple of weeks because Zoe had appointments on Saturdays, and Ollie said much the same, never ruling out a spur-of-the-moment decision, with Christmas approaching and his local parkrun hopefully not far off restarting when New South Wales resumed. Mel then signed off with the Facebook and email contacts and "that's it for another week".

Ollie thanked the Channel 5 News crew, with a particular welcome back to Tracy, for sharing parkrun from so many different angles that year and hoped everyone had enjoyed it as much as they had. Mel then said that was it for another week, gave the Facebook and parkrunadventures@gmail.com contacts and signed off.
Epsiode 259 - Hailing TOC

Episode 255 - Nottie Time to Die
Ollie said he looked forward to moreparkrun tourism with no themes and asked what was on the horizon for Mel; she had planned her alphabetparkrun tour on pen and paper and had already completed H, while Ollie was making it up as he went but knew where his F would be. Ollie asked whether they were looking forward to next week's parkrun orparkrun day: he was looking forward to a Bass Pointparkrun, while Mel said she might plan an adventure and was looking at her options to travel to states whose borders were open, not holding out hope that Victoria would be back although things were looking positive. They ran through where parkrun was still going - Tasmania, South Australia after its brief lockdown, Western Australia, the Northern Territory, parts of Queensland and New South Wales, and the ACT - and Mel said it had been another wonderful week catching up and thanked Ollie for joining her again to discuss all things parkrun. She gave the Facebook and email contact details and said that was it for another week, with the pair signing off that they would see everyone next week for more adventures.
Episode 245 - Dan Buckley
Ollie said it was possibly another week ofparkrun for the two of them and asked what the plans were for the coming parkrun day. Mel, recording on the evening of Monday the 26th of July, was waiting on the Premier's announcement the next morning; she did not expect parkrun to return in Victoria that Saturday but was eagerly awaiting how many people she could run with and how far the kilometre limit would be expanded, as she had keen tourists waiting for their chance at Ellis Palace parkrun. Ollie expected more Bass Pointparkruns in some adapted, Olympic-themed fashion with his household's home Olympics under way, and Mel suggested a Bass Point juniorparkrun with Ava and Zali doing gymnastics ribbons. After talking up Shellharbour's two Olympians, former and current course record holders Jess Hull and Jye Edwards, both targeting the 1500 metres, Ollie said that rather than keep talking about Shellharbour they should probably wrap up, gave the Facebook and email contact details - especially for anyone with bingo-creating talents or ideas, or anyone at the Olympics - and closed for another week.
Episode 244 - Sarah Hudson
Ollie said it had been a big episode with another big week to roll into and asked Mel what she was up to next week: she would be donning her ugly buffs and ugly Christmas runners and finding a way to virtually enjoy the inaugural Ugly Christmas in July on the 24th, which Ollie plugged with a reminder to sign up on the Facebook event and get creative if the buff had not arrived. Mel then flagged the other exciting thing that Saturday - the pair going live with the With Me Now podcast at about 5.30 Eastern Standard Time for the relaunch, or unpause, of England, possibly with a special guest, UK Dazza - and both thanked the With Me Now team for the invitation and for letting them practise on the platform. Ollie wished Mel a good week andparkrun day, mentioned the Olympics starting that Friday and the home Olympics under way in his household, gave the Facebook and email contact details, and signed off saying they would see everyone next week, or live on Saturday, for more adventures.
Episode 243 - Weekend Work
Ollie said that was possibly it for another week and asked everyone to share their 'they've arrived' ugly buff photos, and more importantly to share them with the Ugly Christmas in July page to build the excitement. He gave the contact details - Facebook or their gmail address - and said that was it for another week and they would see everyone next week for more adventures.
Episode 242 - Dog Assisted
Ollie asked Mel her plans for the next parkrun day: she would head to event two of the recent launch at Dorset Recreation Reserve, which is local to her mum, taking her mum to parkrun and bringing her back for a visit, then juniors on the Saturday and, on the Sunday the 11th, a 5K course Eynesbury was throwing in as part of one of the Western Victorian longest runs, possibly with more events after and the as-yet-unnamed duck along for the ride. Ollie, with the Greater Sydney lockdown now including his own local government area and cases not tracking in a positive direction, expected either another Bass Pointparkrun or a hunt for the maypole, plus croissants, a sausage roll and a snot to catch up on. He thanked Mel for another catch-up and everyone for their time, gave the Facebook and email contact details, acknowledged NAIDOC week and invited listeners to share whose land they would be parkrunning or not parkrunning on, and said they would see everyone next week for more adventures.
Episode 241 - Toolern Creek
Mel said they should mention, as always, that listeners can contact them via Facebook or their gmail address, and Ollie said they would love to hear from everyone. He then said that whilst they could not say with any great certainty where they would be or what they would be up to next parkrun day, Mel cut in that that was it for another week and they would see everyone next week for more adventures.
Episode 240 - Raw & Uncut
Mel asked where Ollie would be next week; he said he would be fairly local, as the winter solstice means midsummer for him, with maypoles, mulled wine, flower crowns and a little frog dance, and Mel appealed to Hannah to get a photograph of it for the following week's podcast post. Mel said she did not know where she would be and might abscond again, perhaps back to the ACT or over to South Australia for their longest run on Sunday the 27th of June, but her first priority was Eynesbury and putting on junior parkrun on the Sunday if Victoria was able to return. After a long detour about maypoles, his parents-in-law at Oak Flats and a joke Guinness record attempt, Ollie said it would be a relatively quiet parkrun day for him, then wrapped up, inviting listeners to share their parkrun, return, parkrun and sausage roll stories via Facebook or the email address, and said they would see everyone next week for more adventures.
Episode 239 - Quack Quack
Mel said she still had her fingers crossed that Eynesbury Heritage Trail junior parkrun would be back that week, explaining that they were recording the outro on the evening of Wednesday the 16th of June with restrictions lifting in Victoria and hope of being back on Saturday, but no definitive answer and a mad scramble to fill volunteer rosters across the state if the go-ahead came - she wanted to get back to her puddle before it evaporated. Ollie said it was the waiting game for anyone out there enjoying aparkrun or hoping for a parkrun or junior parkrun, gave the Facebook and email contact details, and Mel said that was it for another week, with Ollie signing off that they would see everyone next week for more adventures.
Episode 238 - Baked Goods
Mel asked Ollie to tell her what he was doing next week since she had to live through him: it was Shellharbour's birthday, and he was looking forward to taking on the Sydney longest run, a very early start and very late finish with no co-driver found yet, though he might try to talk his mum into it. He also flagged an addition he was getting on board with, the Sydney Country to Coast longest run on the 20th of June, running from Campbelltown through the Southern Highlands, Picton, Cowpasture, Bowral, Shellharbour, North Wollongong and Sandon Point. Mel reported that this year's Victorian longest run events had been postponed to the 11th of July because of restrictions, and said that if she could not leave her 10-kilometre zone she would just run Toolern Creek parkrun seven times with a change of clothes each lap. Ollie pointed people to the Facebook pages for updates, welcomed cafe check-ins at Dazza's, gave the email address, and closed with 'parkrun or naughty, we'll see you next week for more adventures'.
Episode 237 - Emma Keer
Ollie said it had been a pretty big week and Mel agreed it had been fun-filled with lots going on all around parkrun world; they asked listeners to stay tuned and keep them informed, and to send feedback by email. Ollie said that was it for another week and they would see everyone next week for more adventures, after which Mel added a special 21st birthday shout-out to friend of the podcast and Shellharbour parkrunner Em, and the two sang Happy Birthday to her.
Episode 236 - Snot Logs & A-Listers
Ollie said that was almost it for the week, thanked everyone who had written in and said they had enjoyed hearing more via email, gave the contact details - Facebook or parkrunadventurers at gmail.com - and said that was it for another week, with the pair signing off that they would see everyone next week for more adventures.
Episode 235 - Hi-Vis Heroes
Mel asked whether they had covered everything and then gave the thing they always forget to tell everybody - that listeners can contact them via Facebook or their gmail address - joking about how genuinely surprised they are whenever an email arrives. Ollie said they really appreciate it and scour the inbox constantly, then reminded Mel of the other thing he frequently forgets, to bring in the budgies. Mel said that was it for another week and Ollie said they would see her next week, thanking her again for volunteering.
Episode 234 - Mothers Day
Ollie said it had been another good catch-up with another parkrun day quickly approaching and asked Mel's plans: she was hunting hills to prepare for the Panorama Punish and thought she would seek out one of her local events, probably Sunbury parkrun, while Ollie would be back behind the megaphone run directing at his home event, with a chance Hannah might pop up and his mum saying she was coming up for a parkrun. Chat about replacing her running jacket and the Contra range, an appeal for gear suggestions and feedback to their gmail address, Peter Pohlman's tip-off that Callaghan parkrun had yet to return, and Mel's Mother's Day gimbal followed, before Mel said they had potentially exceeded their limit for the day and looked forward to chatting to Ollie again next week, and he thanked her.
Episode 233 - Autumnal Adventures
Ollie gave the contact details and asked Mel her plans for the coming parkrun day: it was Mother's Day weekend, so she was heading east to be near her kids, taking her grand doggy Dustin to parkrun and revisiting Cascades on Clyde, with a hello to Michelle Mullins. Ollie had double birthdays on Saturday the 8th of May - Zali's and his mother Galen's - so he would squeeze in a parkrun with his mum for her birthday before heading to a winery, and Mel put out a call to everyone near and far to come down to Shellharbour to celebrate Galen's 70th. Mel wished him a lovely time and happy Mother's Day to Galen and Kathy, and Ollie said that was it for another week and they would see everyone next week for more adventures.
Episode 232 - Celebrating first’s
The hosts said where they would be next parkrun day: Ollie's home roster was full so he would be volunteer coordinating, maybe with a light jog around the course, and on the Sunday he would run Run Shellharbour, his second marathon ever; Mel was going on a road trip with Paul to event two of Ovens River Trail parkrun at Myrtleford in country Victoria, leaving Zoe with the grandparents, expecting a few fellow tourists and possibly some silo art touring. They then touched on the week's obvious omission, saying they could not elaborate for legal reasons until the investigation was completed and they had further advice from HR, but that they understood the Informant would be back, before Ollie said they would chat again next week.
Episode 231 - The one with the bird
After finishing the read-through of listeners' parkrun day comments, Mel raised the contact details they keep forgetting, inviting listeners to email parkrunadventurers at gmail.com or send a Facebook message, and the pair joked that a good whiteboarding session was in store now that questions about dates were coming. Mel said it was probably time to say goodbye for another week after a very big week, told Ollie to make sure he listened all the way to the end of the pod so he did not miss anything, and signed off saying she would chat again next week.
Episode 230 - Stepping up
Ollie thanked Melissa and the Nambour parkrun crew in advance and gave a huge thank you to TOC for the support in getting the Palm weekend up and running, then thanked Mel and said they looked forward to seeing as many listeners as possible out at Palm that weekend. Mel added thanks to Chris Fraser, who had also supported TOC and had been a great help with their social media posts and photo editing each week, and said they looked forward to seeing him at Palm too. She then wrapped it up for another week, apologising for the last two mega pods and promising a short and sweet one in preparation for the weekend, and Ollie thanked her and said bye to everyone.
Episode 229 - King & Queen of the mountain
Ollie said it had been a fantastic week and another great opportunity to hear about everyone's parkrun days, then asked Mel her plans for next week, recalling she had said she was off to Kira; Mel said she was working on her III. Ollie told her to enjoy her parkrun day when it came around, thanked her again for all her wonderful work at Main Beach and for joining the episode, thanked everyone else for joining, and wished them a good parkrun day.
Episode 228 - Bookrun
Mel said she was hoping to get to Main Beach parkrun's anniversary that Saturday, with red zones and border restrictions to navigate, and that they might manage a live cross on the morning. Ollie told everyone to tune in to the page for a bit of the festivity, said it had been a challenge stacking everything into the podcast and thanked everyone for their many contributions, then said they wanted to finish on a high and handed over to the Informant.
Episode 227 - Smorgasbord
Mel called time and Ollie agreed, saying it had been a smorgasbord of parkrun and extra-parkrun experiences and wonderful to hear from everyone. Mel asked whether he had adventures planned; Ollie said he had no plans for the coming week and might just be on a whim or enjoying one of the parkrun experiences he loves most, and Mel said she might have a little adventure up her sleeve. Ollie wished her a fantastic parkrun day and Mel said they would chat next week.
Episode 226 - Crackerjack
Ollie said it had been a lovely catch-up and a good chat on the pod, and that it was nice to enjoy everyone's feedback on their parkrun experience at the cafe. He invited listeners to drop a line at Dazza's Cafe with coffee pictures, questions and suggestions - including non-Shellharbour dress-up themes for the parkrun adventurers meetup dress-up night - by email at parkrunadventurers at gmail.com or via the Informant's page at theinformant.me, then thanked Mel, reminded her to bring the budgies back inside, wished her a lovely parkrun day and thanked Athlete ID A860793.
Episode 225 - Who let the dogs out?
Ollie asked whether Mel would be volunteering at juniors again the next weekend and she said she would be there. They then chatted about Ollie's sister Lily in Melbourne having started listening to the pod and his siblings scattered from Curl Curl and Darwin to Cornwall, invited UK geography corrections to parkrunadventurers at gmail.com and pointed listeners to the Informant's own page at theinformant.me, before noticing Bambi and the outro music starting up. Ollie thanked Mel for another great week and said he looked forward to chatting to her again next week.
Episode 224 - Madness & Mystery
Mel said they had had a very full episode and Ollie said he was spent and that it was late. She asked whether he had something to remind her of, and he produced the running reminder to bring the budgies in, agreeing that a system where she reminds him to remind her could work. Mel suggested they leave it there for the week and catch up on a brand new week of adventures next time, and they said their thanks and goodbyes.
Episode 223 - Abigail
Mel asked whether Ollie would be home at Shell Harbour next week: he will be, run directing again, and looking forward to seeing the Rundown Under shirts out for parkrun Down Under Day. Mel's parkrun day was still in the planning, with accommodation and logistics unsorted, but she needs to get to Lewis Hayman - about three hours north in country Victoria - the last event she needs to regain her statesmanship. They trailed next week's host-versus-host March Madness quiz with quizmaster Simon Mackley, gave out the email address parkrunadventurers at gmail.com, and Ollie said it was a shorter one this week so it was time to wrap up, thanking everyone for joining them and thanking Mel.
Episode 222 - Crickets
Mel thanked TOC, said she could not wait for palm21 to roll around, and asked Ollie his plans for the weekend: he will miss Shellharbour for the annual family holiday at Lake Conjola on the New South Wales south coast, revisiting one of the south coast favourites. Mel's plan A is Fair Park Reserve, where she would meet her mum, with a themed Ellis Palace parkrun as plan B if Victoria's restrictions hold. Ollie wished good news to everyone still in lockdown, asked listeners to keep the correspondence coming at parkrunadventurers at gmail.com (including tips on setting up a Facebook poll), Mel said that was it for another pod, and they told everyone to take care and said they would see them next week.
Episode 221 - parkrun Royale
Ollie asked Mel for her plans for next week: she said she was going adventuring but would not say where, leaving it as a cliffhanger, while Ollie said he may or may not be at Shellharbour and that Hannah had been talking up some parkrun tourism. They gave out the podcast email address, parkrunadventurers at gmail.com, asking for dress-up theme suggestions and for help working out how to launch a poll on Facebook, and joked about playing to their handful of listeners. Ollie said he was looking forward to next week's chat about the listener meetup and supposed that was it, and Mel said they would catch everyone next week.
Episode 220 - parkrun fun
The hosts invited listeners to get in touch - with roving reports, to say hi, or to poke fun and take exception - and gave out the podcast email address, parkrunadventurers at gmail.com, for what Mel thought was the first time, with Ollie asking for adventuring suggestions that were just a little bit achievable for when he finally flies the coop. Mel asked if they were done for another episode; Ollie said it had been a massive one for roving reports and they needed to give the listeners a break, so Mel signed off until next week.
Episode 219 - Lauren Reid
Mel reflected that Australia's near-normal parkrun situation was surreal and that they had to keep reminding themselves friends overseas are still battling the virus, and Ollie thanked everyone listening in that situation, saying the freedom would come. They invited listeners to drop them a line with their parkrun orparkrun fun, then Mel asked if they were done for another week; Ollie agreed it had been another great week and thanked all the roving reporters, Lauren, and Mel, and Mel said they would see everyone next week.
Episode 218 - Alison King
Mel asked where Ollie was off to next week and he said Shell Harbour again, giving more of the new regular volunteers a chance to trial run directing and other roles, which would probably mean failing his homework again, though he would try to look out for a freedom run. Mel said she was going to Lake Boga, which had launched that Saturday, to regain her statesmanship, with accommodation there pretty booked out by fellow Victorians. Ollie said it had been an enjoyable time, thanked her, reflected on the big weekend she and so many other Victorians had had getting a home barcode scanned, congratulated her again on the launch and said he looked forward to doing it again next week.
Episode 217 - The Informant
Mel said she would promptly go and rescue her budgies from the back deck and that was it for another week, and Ollie thanked her. She added one more thing - 'parkrun Vic is coming, parkrun Vic is coming' - and Ollie said it was not very far away.
Episode 216 - Zoom zoom
Ollie said he could not quite ask Mel where she was parkrunning that weekend and asked for herparkrun plans instead: she is going hot air ballooning over Melbourne, a birthday present postponed by lockdown, and has put Ellis Palace parkrun to bed at week 40, though she might go and freedom run Toolern Creek with the small group that does it later in the day. Ollie will be run directing at Shellharbour again, welcoming back parkrunners after the Christmas and New Year period, and noted his own last actual parkrun was Mount Barker on the 7th of March 2020. They wished each other well until next week, Ollie signing off with 'happy ballooning'.
Episode 215 - Bon bon voyage
Scott asked whether a complete 60 minutes of nonsense and bonbon jokes was a fitting swan song for Mel's career as a parkrun adventurers co-host, and she said they had always winged it, never planned or scripted, and that this was the raw natural them. Mel thanked him for joining her for the last episode and for bookending the podcast with her, which Scott called an absolute honour, and after he said his goodbye - 'see you, everyone, it's great to be back, you may never hear from me again' - she thanked everyone for tuning in and closed with the two words she had chosen from a book she reads to Wes: 'go adventurously'.
Episode 214 - Festive Frivolity
Ollie encouraged everyone to keep in touch over Christmas - enjoy and share the love if you are getting a Christmas Day parkrun, reach out and be there virtually if you are missing out - then asked whether Mel would be Christmas Dayparkrunning; she was unsure, though she might dress Daryl up for what could be the final Ellis Palace parkrun, and Ollie said his would probably be a casual one. They then wrapped up, handed the reins back to Mel for the following week to report on how International Ugly Christmas Singlet and Shirt Day went, wished each other a Merry Christmas and wished listeners a safe and merry Christmas and hoped to hear from them in the new year.
Episode 213 - On the Rove Again!
Mel asked Mark whether he had travel plans and adventures ahead: he said they would head back up to Queensland in January to the Gold Coast, with stops up the New South Wales coast to do Coffs Harbour properly after a freedom run there and hopefully tick off North Wollongong. Mel said Mel and Ollie would appreciate any roving reports from his travels and thanked him for joining her for another episode, noting it was their last together with only two more episodes before she is no longer co-hosting. Mark said it had been an honour to share the microphone as she leads up to hanging up the headphones, and credited Will Barlow's call-out for ACT roving reporters for getting him involved.
Episode 212 - Chris Murphy
Mel reminded listeners once more to put the 19th of December in their diaries for Ugly Christmas Singlet and Shirt Day, then thanked Scott for joining her for another episode and for being there when she made the announcement that she is stepping down, which she had not been sure how she would cope with. Scott said this was their last one co-hosting together and thanked her for all the opportunities over the years, and they signed off by name - 'I've been Scott Watkins' / 'I'm always going to be Mel Erbacher' - pointing listeners to the next episode as 2020 and Ugly Christmas Singlet and Shirt Day approach.
Episode 211 - Waffle
Mel said they should probably wrap it up, noting they had chatted about Christmas and television with only about 20 parkruns' worth of parkrun talk, and trailed that with so many events coming back online in Australia future episodes would return to Event Director interviews taking up the majority of the podcast. She thanked Lyndell for joining her and for the TV recommendations, teased her for being a bit grinchy about Christmas, and told anyone wanting to send Lyndell a birthday gift or card to get it in the post before the end of November.
Episode 210 - Aussie adventures
Mel said that pretty much wrapped it up for another week and thanked PK for joining her again, and PK said he had forgotten how much fun it was. Mel wished all the listeners the best - keep on keeping on, one step ahead of each other - and told the Streaky September crowd it was fabulous to see the streaks coming in and that if they broke a streak they should just start it again the next day; PK added that you have to be kind to yourself because only you can do that.
Episode 209 - parkrun is Coming!
Mel said they had talked enough rubbish and Ollie agreed, thanking her for the chance to have another parkrun chat. They handed the reins back to Melissa Erbacher for the following week, wished the Northern Territory good luck for its return saying they would be with it in spirit, and signed off with 'happy parkrun Day, everyone' and 'stay well, everyone'.
Episode 208 - We Heart the NT
Mel said that pretty much brought them to the end of another episode and that it had been great having Scott back two weeks in a row, almost like catching up with friends at your home event. At Scott's prompting she reminded listeners that the 19th of December, the third Saturday in December, is International Ugly Christmas Singlet and or Shirt Day, with the 2020 release out before the end of September, and Scott thanked her and told everyone to stay safe, keep streaking and enjoy theirparkruns.
Episode 207 - Streaky Streaky
Scott said that probably brought them to the end of the podcast, thanked Mel for the invite and for letting him share her 200th episode, and asked about the seven episodes she had missed - the week Wesley was born, four consecutive weeks when Emmett was born, and the two recently co-hosted by Mel and Ollie. Mel then reminded listeners that International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day 2020 is the third Saturday of December, with the design to be released before the end of the month, before thanking Scott, who told everyone to take care, keep doing the right thing and look after themselves and those around them.
Episode 206 - Pause?
Mel said there was nothing left to say for the week except stay safe and well, and thanked Toc for joining her on the pod, adding that it was lovely to hear his voice unmuffled by a mask. Toc said it had been awesome chatting to her and that it was always great to hear her voice from up there on the sunny Sunshine Coast, regardless of what Mark says.
Episode 205 - Tania Hollis
Mel called it another fun pod, said it had been great talking to Tania and then to Mark, and thanked Lyndell for her fine company along for the ride. Lyndell thanked her back, saying she had loved it again and enjoyed the conversations with Tania and Mark, and they signed off on the Fire Saga catchphrase 'ding dong'.
Episode 204 - Steve Darby
Mel said it had been fun and thanked Ollie for joining her again, joking about how lucky they were to be let back to co-host and that nobody had looked under the table. They hoped to be invited back to check in with listeners about maypoles and Eiffel Towers, and Mel closed episode 204, handed back to Mel for next week with thanks for the reins, and said they looked forward to hearing more adventures with New Zealand parkrun.
Episode 203 - In the Dunny
Mel said they should probably leave it there for the week and thanked Dave for coming out to little old Palmwoods to join her, joking that it was not a toilet recording this time. Dave said that would pretty much do it until whenever the next podcast was, since there was no set date, and Mel signed off from Palmwoods with 'happy adventuring, everybody out there' while Dave added 'stay healthy'.
Episode 202 - Tom Williams
Melissa said it had been awesome having TOC back for another stint co-hosting and thanked him for joining her that week. TOC said the news was fantastic and that he felt happier just knowing a barcode would be scanned somewhere within the month, Melissa answered that the barcodes were coming back, and he told her to keep safe and said he hoped to be out running with her one day.
Episode 201 - Janet Reid
The two stand-in hosts wound up their parkrun 'party' conceit, saying they had probably not invited enough people while the parents were away and had not wrecked the house, so they might get invited back. Ollie hoped Mel had enjoyed her week off, and his co-host thanked Mel for the chance to co-host in her absence, hoped they had done her proud, and pointed listeners to the next episode.
Episode 200 - Beau Miles
Mel teased that episode 201 might be done a little differently, with neither of them on it for the first time in 200 episodes, and asked for a witty mysterious audio file to mark it. She then thanked Scotty for joining her, said it had been nice to reminisce and to chat with Beau again, and Scott said he had tried to convert Beau to parkrun (Mel reckoned he had succeeded) before they wrapped up episode 200 of the parkrun adventurers podcast.
Episode 199 - Bek Milne
Scott thanked Mel for having him back on the podcast, said it had been a pleasure and that he had enjoyed the interview and hearing what she was doing, and told everyone listening to keep taking care and enjoy their week until they were back again. Mel thanked him for coming along for the ride and said he could come back later in 2020; he joked that there was a queue, thanked the rest of the news crew for their contributions and reports of recent weeks, said he is always listening at one and a half times speed and was happy to have stepped up again. Mel closed with an inside tip that episode 200 would be a biggie.
Episode 198 - Phone a Friend
Mel thanked Lyndell for the insight into her Survivor obsession and said that was probably it for the week, noting this was the first time they had recorded during parkrun time on a parkrun day, or un-parkrun day. She called it the first of a new wave of parkrun adventurers podcasts, with episodes built mainly on interviews with interesting parkrun people, asked listeners to suggest anyone they would like to hear from, and invited anybody who wanted a chat to reach out via Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, promising to keep things lighthearted and point out silver linings while acknowledging there were tougher times to come. She thanked Lyndell for the chat and for catching up with the rest of the roving reporters and wished her luck keeping on top of her Survivor podcasts; Lyndell said she felt honoured to be the one who got to chat to the whole team.
Episode 197 - Jon Pendse
Mel thanked TOC for joining her on the pod that week, saying it was lovely once again, and always lovely, to have a chat with him; TOC said it had been great and that he looked forward to the next one.
Episode 196 - #PALM20 LIVE!
At the live palm20 recording Mel thanked TOC, called for a round of applause for the crew and said that pretty much wrapped up the podcast portion of the palm20 weekend, then read out a written list of thanks: the organising crew of Chris Fraser, Paul Kitching, Grette Wilkinson and Paul Butler, who had found the dinner locations, scheduled the freedom runs and the morning's recording and arranged the AV gear, taking over from Gary Murphy who could not make it this year; Simon Mackley for writing the quiz questions and Melissa Ellis for delivering them; TOC for scoring, which she suspected he had skewed in Scotty's favour; Paul Butler for being a surprise guest; the whole Channel 5 News crew who had co-hosted over the previous six months; and Tracy and Jackie for holding on to Emmett and keeping him from crying through the recording. She then realised they had never introduced the episode, welcomed the audience to episode 196, and said she would now awkwardly press stop.
Episode 195 - Deri Thomas
Mel thanked Mark for joining her on the pod again and asked whether they would have the pleasure of his presence at palm20; he said no, because that weekend is his family's annual camping trip to the bushfire-affected south coast, where he would do Batemans Bay parkrun, and he wished them fun with the dress-up night and the freedom runs. Mel said missing palm20 to support another community was a good reason, then closed the week: the pod would take a break the following week while travel and organisation for a live recording were sorted, and she would spend a couple of days in the Barossa first, so listeners should be hungry for the next episode, recorded live from Mount Barker parkrun. She signed off with "happy adventures".
Episode 194 - #PALM20 Teaser
Mel turned to wrapping up and Scotty asked whether they were done and could have the music. She asked how he felt being back and he said he had loved it and missed it immensely, though it was a one-time guest appearance; they worked out he had been gone about six months and 25 episodes, with Mel saying 169 was his last episode, and joked about a review and rating of all her co-hosts, which they were too pressed for time to do, and about him returning twice a year. She insisted on thanking him properly for joining her on episode 194 before the music, saying it had been fun having him back, and he said it had been great to be back.
Episode 193 - Podding in the Rain
Mel trailed next week's special guest, who had been heavily involved in the palm20 planning and would represent the planning committee, then thanked Melissa for joining her as co-host on episode 193, saying it had been fabulous even though it was an odd episode and Melissa had skipped the intro again. Melissa admitted she had put her hand up partly to get out of the intro after hearing the outtakes from episode 192, and Mel said they had all won because she had had a lovely time, thanked her for sticking her hand up, said she looked forward to the next time on the co-hosting couch and wished her a happy parkrun next week.
Episode 192 - World Tourists
Dave asked Mel where she expected to be running or volunteering next week: she was not on any roster and had no locked-in plan, with a longer adventure depending on how Emmett's teething night went, while Dave hoped to be at Golden Beach for its sixth anniversary, close to home, and recounted losing a Zillmere volunteer stint to heavy Brisbane rain and giving up a pre-event set-up shift rather than make a visiting friend get up at five. Mel thanked Dave for joining her again, saying it is always a pleasure to have him in the Palmwood studio, and he noted that her audience, Emmett, was awake again.
Episode 191 - Dynamic Duo
G-Train said it had been quite an honour to be with her, that he had had a lot of fun and that it had been interesting sitting on the other side of the speakers, seeing how it all works in the background and getting quality time with her. Mel said it had been great having him on the co-hosting couch and that he was welcome back any time; he joked that he would put her through to his agent so they could talk pricing.
Episode 190 - Chasing Vert
The host thanked Lyndell for joining her on the podcast, said it had been lovely to have a more lighthearted episode for a change of pace after the previous week, and thanked everyone who had got in touch with her about that earlier episode. She thanked Lyndell again for being another awesome co-host, and Lyndell thanked her for entertaining her crazy idea for a new club, the Vert Club, and for the wonderful podcast that is the parkrun adventurers.
Episode 189 - Happy New Year!
TOC noted that Melissa had done her J in South Australia on New Year's Day and had only a couple of letters left, and pressed her on when they would see her at Inverloch for her I, offering somewhere very close by for her, Adam, Wes and Emmett to stay; she said she would get the details off him offline as it sounded like a best-kept secret. She then thanked TOC for joining her for the first episode of Season 5 of the parkrun adventurers, said it would be an interesting season with a fairly early palm only a couple of months away, and asked if he was getting excited; TOC said he was, that South Australia is always a wonderful destination, that he needed to get onto bookings and accommodation, and that it would be a cracker of an adventure.
Episode 188 - Merry Ugly Christmas
The guest co-host Scott said contributing to the last episode of the year had been an unexpected honour and privilege, congratulated Mel on all she had achieved, wished her a happy end to the year, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and said he looked forward to more next year. Mel thanked him for joining her, said it had been a big deal having another Scott on the pod, that he had done a great job and was welcome back any time; he said he would be happy to but remained first and foremost a passionate listener, and signed off thanking everyone who had been with them, telling listeners to enjoy any break, stay safe, stay running and keep enjoying their adventures.
Episode 187 - PKRUN
The host thanked Melissa for coming aboard the podcast train again and hoped she would listen in next week, which would be the final episode for 2019 with special content and a co-host still to be arranged. Melissa thanked her for the three turns in the co-host seat and said she could not wait for Ugly Christmas Singlet Day. The host closed with a plea for the inaugural International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day: wear the singlet at parkrun or all day, photograph it anywhere including the grocery store, share it on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and join the Facebook event of that name.
Episode 186 - J.O.G.I
The host thanked Lyndell for joining them on the pod again, saying it is always a party to have her around; Lyndell said she loves talking parkrun and that it is great to be part of the podcast. They then riffed on how a Get Smart episode would end, with the phone booth elevator and the closing doors from the title sequence, and finished by each giving their best "um" to prove they were real people rather than CGI.
Episode 185 - Trails and Tales
The host said it had been another fun episode and thanked TOC for joining her once more, saying it is always fun to have the news crew on board; TOC said it had been a pleasure and that he was listening to rain bucketing down outside and wished he could send some north, and she thanked him for sending his voice instead. She then left listeners with a tease: the venue for the palm20 listener meetup was in the final stages of confirmation and would be revealed next week, though long-time listeners already knew it would be in Adelaide, South Australia, in March, and Adelaide city was a safe bet for accommodation. TOC said he was really looking forward to the build-up and to catching up with voices he only sees once a year.
Episode 184 - Margie Lewis
The host told Dave it had been a pleasure to have him join her once again and almost in person in what she called the Erbacher Recording Studios, said he had done a stellar job, and closed with "here's to many more parkrun adventures".
Episode 183 - parkrun: The Musical
The host said she was excited about the parkrun the Musical poll going up on the Facebook page and thanked PK for coming back to join her on the pod; PK said he loved being a small part of the parkrun community and thanked her for letting him be part of it, despite having randomly burst into song. They finished with a shout-out to Mark Scarborough for his first Run Director spot on the weekend and a congratulations to Nicole on her PB, and joked about people having given roving reporters a microphone at all.
Episode 182 - Ian Shaw
The host congratulated Mark on his first ever run direct coming up that weekend and said he had just nailed his second time out co-hosting the parkrun adventurers podcast; Mark said it felt fantastic and that it was good to be on the podcast and support what parkrun adventurers is about. He joked that she could have a free parkrun of her choice that weekend and she took him up on it, thanked him for chatting to her, and he said he was more than happy to share stories with the listeners.
Episode 181 - Linda van Duynhoven
The hosts worked through their festive-season plans: Mel Ellis will be at her home event Toolern Creek for its first Christmas Day parkrun, and cannot travel to South Australia at New Year because her husband was refused leave, scuppering plans for four new parkruns in eight days; the host does not yet know where she will volunteer on Christmas Day, likely somewhere in Brisbane, and will be in South Australia for the New Year's Day double, expecting three new events over that weekend and the following one. She pointed listeners to the New Year's Day double finder tool, giving the URL as tailrun.uk with NYD and 2020, and noted only about a dozen doubles had been declared so far. She then thanked Mel Ellis for joining her as co-host, said it was a ball and she always has a giggle, and congratulated her on her recent parkrun achievements, challenges and volunteering.
Episode 180 - Myths & Legends
Mel said that probably just about wrapped it up for the week and thanked Tim for coming to join her as co-host, calling it good fun; Tim said he enjoys every appearance whether as co-host or guest, loves the podcast and what she does, and was glad to keep supporting it. Mel added that they would need him back as a guest before too long because he no longer works for parkrun Australia and they wanted to hear the ins and outs of being Strategic Director of Asia Pacific.
Episode 179 - Eliud Kiprobbo
Mel said she needed to get back to finishing her singlet designing so they had better wrap it up, thanked Gary for coming back to join her, called it a fun episode and said he was such a pro now that it was always a pleasure to have him on. Gary said the pleasure was all his, thanked her for having him on as co-host again and wished all the parkrun adventurers out there happy parkrunning and happy adventuring.
Episode 178 - Roving Reports
Mel thanked Lyndell for joining her and added a belated thank you to Dave for the previous week, saying he had gone above and beyond technologically and that the schemozzle was in no way his fault. She said Lyndell had made hosting a pod look, or sound, extremely easy, was such a pro now and was always fun to have on, and both said they looked forward to doing it again.
Episode 177 - The Doddfather
Mel gave a final shout-out to everyone who took part in or completed Streaky September, saying she had loved the gnome selfies, the Strava art and the ties and tutus, reported that she had personally covered 77 kilometres, noted that the Facebook group had renamed itself Streak to New Year's Day and admitted she had broken her own streak on the first day of October but had made herself a personal goal to keep moving more than before. She trailed episode 178 with a co-host back on Australian shores and regular programming resuming, signed off with "until next week, happy parkrun adventures", and left listeners with the last bit of audio she and Dave had captured.
Episode 176 - International Podcast Day 2019
In this International Podcast Day bonus episode the host closed by thanking the Channel 5 News crew for their top-three segments and going through each in turn, PK's tips for newbies and his singing, TOC on the colours of tutus, Mel on submitting roving reports (with the parkrunadventurers gmail address), Mark on getting a good photo, Dave on adventuring, Greta on celebrating anniversaries, Gary on aviation parkruns and Lyndell rounding it out with more adventuring tips, joking that Lyndell did not know how to count to three. She then gave her own self-indulgent top three tips for creating a podcast: say yes if some crazy guy you barely know asks you to start one; open your heart and ears to contributions from other creative and quirky people who share your passion; and have fun, because if you do not love the topic and laugh loud and often, maybe do not create a podcast. She hoped listeners had enjoyed their extra dose of parkrun adventurers and wished them a happy International Podcast Day.
Episode 175 - Twinning
Mel told Mark she had had so much fun and that there was a reason the Channel 5 News crew are the Channel 5 News crew, thanked him for joining her again, said she felt truly blessed to have the crew on hand to co-host every week and that she enjoyed his roving reports, wished him luck with his marathon training and let his not streaking through September slide rather than count it a sackable offence. Mark thanked her for the opportunity, said he had thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Channel 5 News crew and looked forward to participating more, and wished everybody heading out for parkrun day the best of luck.
Episode 174 - Stanthorpe parkrun
Mel wished a happy birthday to their mate TOC, who was celebrating on the day they recorded, then said the episode had come to an end very quickly and asked Greta where she was heading on parkrun day. Greta was staying home at Mount Barker to run direct rather than run, resting for the 56km Yurrebilla Trail run through the Adelaide Hills on the Sunday, her fourth of five ultras in the South Australian 550s series, with the Heysen run in late October to come. Mel was going to Queen Elizabeth parkrun at Casino in northern New South Wales for her Q, an overnight trip taking in some sights and spending tourist dollars in a drought- and fire-affected area, with a secret challenge she said listeners would have to wait for episode 175 to hear about. She thanked Greta for joining her and Greta said she looked forward to doing it again.
Episode 173 - Roving, Roving, Roving
The host said 10 days of Streaky September were down and 20 to go, then asked before they headed off where they were each going next week: her guest co-host Mel was flying to Singapore with parkrun friends for her first overseas parkrun and first flag, at Bishan parkrun; the host was going to Ocean View parkrun, another trail event and her new nendy, where a champagne breakfast was on offer. She wrapped up saying they had probably talked everybody's ears off, thanked Mel for coming on, said it was good to have another female voice even if she was from Victoria, wished her an amazing time in Singapore and thanked her for her contributions to the podcast over the years, joking that the Channel 5 News crew had made it hard for her to join only because they knew she would rise to it and there were no more levels left for her to reach.
Episode 172 - Rohan Day
The hosts said where they were headed next parkrun day: TOC and Jackie were going to Torquay on the surf coast for their 99th different event, with Lorne later in the month a likely 100th and Studley saved as their nendy; Mel was headed to her nendy, the Glasshouse Mountains trail event, chasing a second perfect month. Mel then passed on the many lovely comments and messages that had come in thanking Scotty for his contribution, joked about a review that gave her half a star for her abrasive voice, and thanked TOC for a lot of fun on episode 172, telling him to come back any time.
Episode 171 - The Butler Boys
Mel asked PK where he was headed on parkrun day: he might check out Pakapakanthi, which has a new course after tree-root damage, or Jubilee Way, with other adventures planned later in the month; Mel was rostered to run direct at Kawana, home for the first time in a few weeks before back-to-back adventures through September. They compared Scott's event tally, 77 each as at his last episode and agreed the current Channel 5 News crew, rather than Mel, should set the challenges for prospective new roving reporters. Mel then thanked PK for what she called a wonderful first episode without Scotty, and PK said it had been an honour to help spread the word and thanked her for keeping the podcast alive.
Episode 170 - Linda Coombes
In his last episode as co-host Scott said that for one final time he would not see Mel next week but would speak to her, and would be listening to the podcast to hear about her parkrun day. He thanked her from the bottom of his heart for saying yes immediately and never wavering, calling her the best co-host he could have imagined; thanked everyone who had ever come up to say hi at parkrun over the four years and urged listeners to do the same with Mel; and thanked Ivona and Kasia for putting up with him disappearing into the study. Mel said she felt gypped that listeners had not been given the chance to throw him a going-away party; Scott said he did not want one, that he was not going anywhere except out of the co-host seat, and that he would be at Palm 2020 sitting in the audience watching them record.
Episode 169 - Tabitha Schulz
Gary called Mel's on-air appeal to the absent Scotty a perfect way to finish and said Scotty would have to come back on the strength of it. He told listeners to keep looking for Scotty and to report any sighting, and said they looked forward to hearing his excellent podcast ability back on the show next week. Mel thanked Gary for joining her, saying it had been fun and that it was always lovely to speak to a fellow propeller head even if he was from Victoria, and Gary signed off insisting they needed Scotty back.
Episode 168 - #fluffyfactor
Mel said it had been another adventure having Lyndell on the podcast and thanked her for co-hosting once again; Lyndell thanked her for thinking of her and having her back. Mel closed by saying they would see whether Scotty wanted to show his voice again next week.
Episode 167 - Ian Rutson
Scott said that was a wrap and thanked Mel for sharing another episode with him, dismissing suggestions that she had come back from her break too early and saying it was great to have her back and that he could not wait to hear where she went. He joked that he needed a cold shower to cool down after a hot episode, thanked her again and said he would speak to her next week.
Episode 166 - Social Prescribing
Mel said that was probably it for all the fun that had been had that week, and Scott returned to an earlier thread about who had been backstabbing him over replacing himself as co-host, offering to play the outro music first; Mel refused to put it on record and told him to stay as her co-host. They then set an Instagram challenge for the coming Saturday, asking listeners to flood Instagram with parkrun adventures posts and tag the account, and made it a Mel-versus-Scott contest despite Instagram having hidden like counts.
Episode 165 - Justin Scholz
Scott said let's wrap it up and challenged them both to avoid their home events that weekend; Mel would not commit but promised adventures from the Erbacher side of the podcast in the not-too-distant future, though not next week, and Scott said he might go home next week as well. They joked about being fair-weather adventurers who should only podcast during spring and summer, and Mel said she would like to podcast with him next week wherever he went.
Episode 164 - UK Conference
Scott turned from the story of running Albert Park alongside Sam Wood to closing, saying it was great to have Mel back, that all the regulars had returned that day with Lyndell and Timmy joining for a great wrap-up, that he was full of parkrun happiness, and that they should leave it there and do it all again next week. Mel said she looked forward to coming back two weeks in a row and was glad he was not ready to put her back on hiatus.
Episode 163 - Ada Macey
Scott thanked Ada for coming on as their experimental third host, calling the experiment a success, and gave his sincerest thanks to Lyndell for filling in for Mel, saying Mel was keen to come back but that he could not confirm it. He then asked Ada to close the episode by telling them about Rikki, who had contacted her to write the article and had been a friend ever since; Ada said she would love to see Rikki on the podcast, thanked both hosts and wrapped up episode 163.
Episode 162 - Lee Troop
Scott asked Lyndell where she was going that weekend and she said she did not know, another cliffhanger, while Scott said he had plans he had not locked down and would be going for a run with someone he would talk about next week. He then called it on a long episode, thanking Lee for sharing his story and spending time with them, mentioning the roving reports he had not yet listened to and would hear when he assembled the episode, thanked Lyndell for at least one more week, and said he would check in with Mel to see whether she was ready to return.
Episode 161 - The Amazing Robbo
Scott turned from the story of his own patient zero to wrapping up what he called their second episode together with Lyndell, nearly calling her Mel by mistake. He asked whether she was ready to come back next week; she said she could, and he said they needed to do things in at least threes, so she would be back for episode 162.
Episode 160 - Coach Dinneen
Scott told stand-in co-host Lyndell that they had survived and done okay, asked whether she had been nervous, told her it was over and she could relax, and called "a wrap on 160". He then made the big call that she would be back next week - he had told Mel it was up to him, not her, when she returned, and he thought they would give her at least one more week - and Lyndell said that if it was okay with both him and Mel she would be back.
Episode 159 - Kelly & Charles Hodges
Scott said Buster was crying to get out of the recording studio so it was time to wrap up 159, told Mel he would see her soon and that listeners would hear from her in a couple of weeks when they would be updated on what had happened; Mel said people kept telling her that no one stays pregnant forever, that she was not sure she believed them, and that she would let them know.
Episode 158 - v-index
Mel said it sounded like Scott needed a holiday, he agreed and asked whether it sounded like they should wrap up 158, and she suggested they head off. Mel thanked him for joining her this week and Scott called it a treat and a pleasure as always, saying he hoped to see her in person next week on the Sunshine Coast - a meeting listeners would not get to hear - and Mel said they would chat again soon.
Episode 157 - State of the Nation
Episode 156 - Dr Lindsey Reece
Scott called the wrap on 156 and immediately gave away the cliffhanger himself - next week's State of the Nation, speaking to ambassadors around the country plus Malaysia for a lowdown on new events, special events and anniversaries, and still hunting the elusive X parkrun. Mel thanked him for dragging himself out of bed to record while unwell, said she appreciated his dedication and would remember it when deciding whether she could podcast straight after delivering, and Scott said he looked forward to it and would speak to her next week.
Episode 155 - Oodles of Roving Reports
Mel asked whether Scott had big plans for the weekend: he was going back to Berwick Springs, an event he had not visited in about five years and which launched a couple of weeks before Westerfolds, to celebrate a Medibank parkrun Hero, noting that as staff neither he nor Yvonne - nor Mel, even on maternity leave - could win the end-of-year trip to Bushy. Talk turned to Mel's leave and the baby being late by Wesley's clock, with Scott promising he was making plans so listeners would not miss another episode and that they would be back next week for 156 with or without her; Mel left it on that cliffhanger, saying it could be half about Lyndell next week.
Episode 154 - parkrun in prisons
After the long roll call of Uber-weekend anniversaries, Mel said they could spend the next ten minutes stuffing around talking nonsense but people had places to be and asked to leave it there; Scott said he thought people wanted nonsense but would not give it to them because Mel was tired, and wrapped up episode 154, "all about the prisons", asking what it had inspired her to do. Mel said she was certainly not going to commit a crime to attend a prison parkrun, but that it inspired her to see parkrun pushing the boundaries in Australia and finding creative ways to engage people who otherwise could not be engaged - a new adventure.
Episode 153 - parkrun Japan
Mel thanked Scott for joining her and he asked where she was off to that weekend: volunteering at home again, because she was heavily pregnant, finding movement over any distance uncomfortable, and thinking she might retire on The Beaches until after the baby arrived. Scott said he hoped she would join him next week for the chat with Glenn Turner, put Lyndell on standby in case, thanked Mel again and said he might speak to her next week; she replied that they would chat soon either way.
Episode 59:59 - #palm19
Scott asked Mel whether the weekend had been her last parkrun for a long time or whether she would adventure somewhere and attack the one hour 27 she had set; she said she was not quite ready to drop a child yet, had adventures and a couple of weeks of volunteering lined up, and warned him not to use her situation to get too far ahead of her on the most events list. Scott said he was not going anywhere new because "the showman" was in town and they would take care of his nendy, while Mel would be training new Run Directors. Scott then wrapped up what he called Episode 59 at 59, saying it put the numbering back on track so they need never talk about episode 113 again, and told listeners that the parkrun adventurers Listener Meetup really had happened even though they could not hear it, the photos are on the Facebook page, and that they would do it all again in 12 months. He asked Mel to get together next week for maybe one last time; she asked for a few more weeks and they teased the coming arrival of Lyndell as co-host, before Scott signed off promising to leave listeners with an extended version of the theme music, the best they had had in the podcast's three and a bit or four years.
Episode 152 - RunWest
Scott declared that wrapped up the parkrun portion of the episode, and after a gag about the federal budget the pair turned to the palm19 weekend: Mel doubted she could manage the Friday night freedom run at Newy on top of The Beaches the next day, Scott revealed he had a torn hamstring, and both agreed they would at least be at the Newy finish line. They talked up Newcastle - Scott's number one bucket list event, hyped by Robbo for years, and a place Mel had never been - before Scott left it there because it was getting late and they had packing to do, saying he would chat to her in a couple of days' time live and in person, and Mel said she would see him there.
Episode 151 - Madison de Rozario
Scott set aside the question of Mark's gold level status until The Beaches and laboured the point that this was not that weekend but the one after, 6 April - the same weekend parkrun launched in Japan and the eighth anniversary of parkrun in Australia - with Mel at Lota and himself at Centennial in the meantime. Mel said their choice of that weekend showed their commitment to the podcast and that she thought the Beaches would be bigger than the Japan launch; Scott called it a big call but agreed she was right.
Episode 150 - Lloydy
Scott, told there were three weeks to go until the listener meetup, said "I've got to go and practice", and signed off with "See you, Mel. Chat to you next week."
Episode 149 - Nadine Crawford
Hearing tears, Scott called for the wrap of the flashbacks and the podcast, and the pair agreed the experiment of having Wesley co-host had been an epic fail as Mel reported the showman was also appearing and Wesley had started throwing vehicles around the house. Scott thanked Wesley and Mel for episode 149, Mel had Wes give a silent kiss goodbye, and Scott admitted he had forgotten the sound effects - no harps for the flashbacks last week and no plane or train over the Nick Pearson interview at the point where the parkrun Japan launch date was withheld - teasing listeners to keep listening next week to find out.
Episode 148 - Nick Pearson
Scott said he thought he was heading to Kirra the next day and asked to wrap up 148 so he could get to bed and perform his best in the morning, thanking Mel again; she replied that it was always a pleasure.
Episode 147 - #palm19 preview
Scott said that, as they finished up 147, he wanted to talk podcasts: he read out two five-star iTunes reviews and asked for more, reported that changing some settings had not cost them downloads, and recommended the Ron Burgundy podcast, while Mel recommended Blank Check with Griffin and David. They ended on a running joke about performing "Shallow" - Mel taking the Bradley Cooper parts and Scott the Lady Gaga parts - with Scott using it to plug the live recording at The Beaches on the Saturday after parkrun and Mel suggesting they save the karaoke for elsewhere over the palm19 weekend.
Episode 146 - Kirsten Molloy
Scott thanked Mel for the week, saying it was great to chat a couple of days after seeing her in person and to see her name and away form appear on his computer screen; Mel said it was her pleasure and suggested they do it again next week, and they signed off for 147, "or 113, you never know."
Episode 145 - Singleton parkrun
Scott closed off week two of the Flashback Time Travel series and trailed next week's instalment covering 5 January, then said that would wrap up the episode. He raised a Poem Zone entry from Eden at Roosevelt Island, which Mel denied having banned, bumped it because the outro had run long while promising the Poem Zone might yet return, thanked Eden for the entry, and thanked Mel for episode 145 before catching her next week for 146; Mel added that next week they would both know where they had parkrun together.
Episode 144 - Glen Turner
Scott called for the wrap - "Let's wrap up this week, Mel. 144 is in the books" - and said he was already looking forward to 145, or maybe even 113 if they ever got back to that one, with Mel agreeing they would.
Episode 143 - With Us Now
Mel said they had not thanked the Channel 5 News crew nearly enough for their contributions all year and deliberately did not read out the seven names for fear of forgetting one, and Scott said there were openings for applications, with a caveat, referring to the hoops Melissa Ellis had jumped through to join that year. Scott said he hoped everyone enjoyed their send-off for the year and Mel looked forward to chatting to everyone in 2019, wishing listeners a safe and merry festive season and enjoyable Christmas Day parkruns and New Year's Day doubles, adding that there was always parkrun next Saturday; Scott said they would be back next year with no definite date and joked that listeners should keep refreshing Facebook and their podcast app.
Episode 142 - Roving Reports
Scott turned from the top three Christmas gifts segment to thanking Mel for travelling all over Australia and for her visit to town, and for the evening spent with the showman; they bantered about whether Mel was his best friend in Queensland and about his "equal best friends", and Scott teased a top three best friends list for next week's pod as a hook to get listeners back before signing off with "Speak to you then" and a double "Ciao".
Episode 141 - Facts in a Haystack
After the calendar, Scott asked whether Mel was planning to have fun that weekend given her prior engagement: she said she was heading to a state she had not parkrun in since Wes was born, and Scott talked up Westerfolds as the greatest event in the great state, recalling that on her first visit in about March 2016 she took him and Adam to Studley instead and they did a Westerfolds freedom run the next day. They then wrapped up episode 141 by thanking everyone who ordered an Ugly Christmas Singlet, stressing the singlets were being made in Melbourne, that the podcast had made nothing from them, praising the manufacturer's customer service and their promise to prioritise the international orders, and noting two more episodes to go before the break.
Episode 140 - An Early Xmas
Scott said that wrapped up their Christmas theme and he would see Mel next week, and Mel added that by then ordering for the singlets would be closed and they would be in production. They then set up the Christmas instrumental they would play out on, arguing over whether Andre Rieu was Italian, French, Austrian or German and distinguishing him from the blind opera singer Andrea Bocelli, Scott inviting listeners to sing along to the instrumentals and Mel closing with "Talk to you next week, Scotty."
Episode 139 - Running Challenges
Scott closed with "That's episode 139 of the parkrun adventurers" and told listeners to come back next week on a Wednesday for episode 140.
Episode 138 - Tony Park
Scott called time - "so we leave it there, let's wrap it up" - on another long but, in his words, absolute cracking episode, and gave a final reminder about the perlustration, saying people had had enough time, that they would close it next week, delve into the results and give away the TomTom watch, and telling anyone who had not entered to get onto it.
Episode 137 - Dane Bird-Smith
Scott declared that concluded another episode of the parkrun adventurers, saying they would love to continue for another 40 minutes but had run out of things to say and he had to go and pick up his daughter; they thanked each other and said they would speak next week.
Episode 136 - Kelly Hodges
Mel thanked Scott for joining her again, teasing him about the week off and his jealousy that she had been talking to Tim, and Scott admitted a moment of it plus some anxiety at being compared. They pushed the perlustration again, welcomed roving reports from anyone rather than just the Channel 5 News crew, revisited podcast merchandise - Scott now serious about it, Mel still "knitting" the leg warmers - and agreed to work on something for Christmas; Scott floated the idea of regular guest co-hosts, and Mel signed off promising to give all the gory details of her sixth parkrun birthday next week.
Episode 135 - Intern Pete
With Tim guest co-hosting in Scott's absence, Mel asked where he was headed for parkrun on Saturday: Airlie Beach, where it was pacer week and he would be the 30-minute pacer while pushing the double pram; Mel said she would be at Kawana for its anniversary with a spooky theme, on the tools timekeeping and app-only since their stopwatch died. Tim praised Mel for what she had given the event over the years, thanked her for having him as co-host, said how much of a commitment the weekly podcast was, and offered to guest host again any time the pair needed a break, noting Scott would be back next week.
Episode 134 - Tim Oberg
Scott said he would not be on the podcast next week and was heading down to Eastern Gardens that weekend to get his E, admitting he was focusing on the alphabet more than he was willing to admit. Mel said the one 2018 goal she would not reach was a new parkrun PB, which led to Scott's own abandoned marathon goal and Mel's offer of a wine marathon in France with Team Trickett. Scott then wrapped up - "Episode 134 is in the books" - said he would see Mel again for 136, and Mel wished him a good week off, with Tim under "a lot of pressure" to deliver in his place.
Episode 133 - IpD recap
Mel opened the where-next exchange by asking about the big plans at Scott's home local: he would not be running at Westerfolds but taking part in a "walk-off" against the Zoolanders, whose Matty Trent was coming onto his home ground, and Scott called on any Zoolanders listening to come along. Mel said she was gutted to miss it but would be getting a new event elsewhere, and after a detour into the delayed second co-host - lined up but held up by getting Mel technically competent to record - Scott said he might or might not speak to her next week and wished her a good parkrun this weekend and next.
Episode 132 - Digger Hargreaves
Straight after the launches and anniversaries calendar the pair asked each other where they were going that weekend: Mel said she was going to a new event to widen the gap on the most events list but would not say which because it was "under advisement", and Scott said he too was going to New South Wales, also without naming it, so his idea of comparing the two events' attendances to settle who was more popular was shelved for another week. Scott closed with "Fun times ahead. Thanks for this week, Mel. Speak to you next week."
Episode 130 - Julian Spence
After Mel insisted Scott could still finish his Streaky Bingoe card with more than a week and only eight challenges to go, Scott said on that note they were going to say goodbye. They agreed to release three level-up challenges in the Facebook group in a couple of days so people had time to do them, told listeners to join the group or tune in next week to find out what they had missed, and signed off.
Episode 129 - Beau Miles
Scott gave some love to another parkrun podcast he had discovered during the week, Stay Frosty parkrun - a solo one-woman show from the UK, making four to choose from - and then said they were running out of time, so he was putting the Double Barrel Club on the run sheet for next week and left listeners to have a think about what it might be.
Episode 128 - Streaky September
With Mel's laptop battery down to 5 per cent, Scott said let's end it now, and they looked ahead to parkrunning together at the weekend at an event new to both of them. Mel thanked Jackie for her hotline question about how the two of them met, promised a guest the following week, and then they abandoned the returning sing-along - a live version of Tiffany's I Think We're Alone Now, Scott's karaoke song of choice - agreeing it just was not the same, blaming the corporate greed of big music, and leaving the episode to peter out over the theme music.
Episode 127 - Rob de Castella
Scott said that was it for another episode and asked Mel's plans: she was volunteering at parkrun that Saturday rather than running, would check her PO box for her medal that afternoon, and said her adventuring had stalled but flights were booked and road trips arranged because she still needed about nine new events by the end of the year to meet her New Year's goal. After Scott lamented not being able to do a sing-along, he said he had a hot tip that playing a recording of a live performance would slip past the copyright algorithms, and said he would give it a try; Mel said she would speak to him next week.
Episode 126 - Clinton Bishop
Scott said that to take them out this week he might sing along himself and ruin everyone's week, after copyright infringement notices had killed the sing-along - Nina, Bonnie Tyler and Giorgio being in his good books, unlike the others. He then asked where they were off to: he was heading to the Eastern Gardens launch in Geelong, would be on Sunrise again and wanted people to come and say hi early, about 7am, because he had a job for them; Mel refused to say where she would be.
Episode 125 - August Madness
Scott said that was enough of them for the night and it was time for a sing-along - another song from his 1980s film back catalogue, with listener requests to come once he had worked through it. Mel thanked everyone for the hashtag ScottyWeLoveYou she had started, which had got a lot of play on social media the week before, and gave listeners the line "Pleased to meet you, Moles" as a five- or ten-second clue to guess the film before the music started.
Episode 124 - parkrun and not single
Scott turned to the week's sing-along, called it a slow burner, asked what mood Mel was in and promised to surprise her and everyone else; he said that was it for the week's episode of the parkrun adventurers and that they would be back next week, God knows what day but fingers crossed within the week. Mel trailed some very special reverse freedom madness for the following week, leaving Scott in the dark.
Episode 123 - Penny Redhead
Scott said let's wrap this up, it had been another long one and Mel had a plane to catch down to Melbourne, thanked her for joining him and for being hilarious, and said he looked forward to hearing from her twice the following week. Mel admitted to nerves about the second edition and hoped she would not let the team down; Scott told her not to be nervous because it would be the same as they had done for 121 episodes.
Episode 122 - Kelly Hodges
Scott cued the week's sing-along - the song from the 1980s film Mannequin, which he had rediscovered falling asleep in front of the film on Stan and then heard again in a car ad - saying here it comes and asking whether Mel could feel it; Mel said she was turning the volume up right now.
Episode 121 - Mark Musk
Scott asked "So is that it, Mel? Can we go?" and slid straight into song lyrics, which Mel called possibly one of the more awkward ways they had ever ended the podcast and said they should just leave it there because it was not going to get any better. They then told listeners to sing along, not be ashamed, and turn the volume up.
Episode 120 - UK Conference
Mel said they would let Scott get back to having adventures so he could join them fresh next week with more tales, and promised an actual guest rather than just a ramble and roving reports. Scott apologised for a short episode but pointed to their commitment of one podcast a week while he was in the UK, Mel noted it was about the fourth time they had tried to line up recording across the time zones, and they shared the love for other new parkrun podcasts - Robbo's, a rumoured one from Danny and Nicola, and Vassos at Free Weekly Timed - before Scott signed off, back in Australia next week.
Episode 119 - Highlight Reel
Scott said he had a plane to catch, literally, and that they needed to wrap up episode 119. They talked about his packing for an English summer - a few pairs of shorts and, under protest, one pair of pants required by a dress code - which prompted him to announce he was turning his running club into the Shorts Appreciation Society, a real lobby group with a Facebook page. He signed off saying Mel had a crying baby and he had a plane, and that he would speak to her from a different time zone next week for what he called the 120th, or 113th, episode.
Episode 118 - Matty Trent
Scott moved to wrap it up, saying he was having a quiet one and would toddle off somewhere local, and pressed Mel for her plans; she said that if the teething stopped and she had a decent Friday night the plan was to go home, as she had not been home for a very long time. Scott signed off telling her to enjoy her time at Kawana and to make sure she set that alarm - a callback to the limerick read out earlier - and trailed the following week as a real highlight of their podcast journey so far.
Episode 117 - Roger Hanney
Scott said that wrapped up episode 117 and checked whether Mel had anything else she was meant to lead him to; she said he had covered it all. They looked ahead to a bumper episode the following week recorded together in person, Scott suggesting he might set a recorder going over one of their weekend conversations, Mel warning they should not make promises they cannot keep, and they signed off with "until then".
Episode 116 - Hannah Oldroyd
Scott said the episode had made him happy but was coming to an end, then asked where they were going that week: Mel back to Kawana Beach parkrun if she could, Scott nowhere new. Mel finished by telling how Adam had realised he was only five or six events behind her on the most events list and had got a bee in his bonnet about catching up, planning a sneaky trip away with Wes to an event she had not done.
Episode 115 - Matt who?
Mel called it another awesome episode with a surprising guest whose name she pretended not to remember, and thanked all the guests they have on. They asked listeners for feedback on whether to bring back Event Director interviews more regularly, and after riffing on haikus and poems decided on a new outro segment - the Poem Zone, with a parkrun haiku competition and a prize - before Scott thanked Mel and said they would speak next week.
Episode 114 - Steph Auston
Asked where they were heading, Mel said she would be on Sunshine Coast turf but would not say where until next week, and Scott said he had a hot weekend and a night away planned with his wife that might be near another parkrun and might get him another event. Scott then wrapped up episode 114, which he called their 113th episode of the parkrun adventurers series, noting they were recording past midnight on the day of release, and Mel signed off saying they were devolving into chaos and nothing good ever happens after midnight.
Episode 112 - junior parkrun
Scott asked where Mel was going and she said she was headed back to the Northern Territory to chase down a New Year's resolution and grab another compass point at Nightcliff, now the northernmost parkrun in Australia, having already done Darwin; asked earlier, she said she would not be at the North Sydney launch. They then joked about skipping episode 113 altogether because Scott is superstitious about 13, trailed next week's guests - real adventurers who had been bumped for the juniors episode and who had been in Italy when first approached - and Mel signed off by telling Scott to stop making excuses and get his run done before dark.
Episode 111 - Euan Bowman
Scott said the Tuesday-night Open Run at Brooklyn Bridge Park sounded like a great way to cap off Mel's US adventure, Mel agreed her last full day in New York had been her favourite, and Scott asked whether they should wrap up episode 111.
Episode 110 - Paul Freyne
Scott said Mel had challenges getting to a parkrun that weekend and they would not spoil it but find out next week, and that he had challenges too - juggling airport pickups and an international flight - so he might not make a parkrun at all. They joked about a New Yorker who had given up trying to understand Scott's accent and about the T-shirts Mel had been seeing, and trailed episode 111 as American T-shirt culture, the NFL draft, and maybe some parkrun talk if there was time.
Episode 109 - Sonia O'Sullivan
Scott called an end to a riff about wanting Mel to find him a Dr Pepper breakfast bar in America and said let's wrap up the 109th episode of the parkrun adventurers podcast. Mel called it the last episode where the podcast would be an only child, with a sibling arriving by next week - the new UK show Free Weekly Timed - and Scott said he would speak to her next week in different time zones.
Episode 108 - parkrun Malaysia
Scott broke off the anniversaries list to ask whether they had wrapped up for the week, and Mel asked whether they had entered the time zone where only the hardcore listen to their blathering. Scott then filled it with a riff on supermarket breakfast bars being cookies marketed as healthy, tasking Mel with bringing back the next big American breakfast bar from the trip she was leaving on the following Wednesday, Anzac Day. They teased that Scott was coming to Queensland not for the Gainsborough Greens launch but for something on the Sunday - something new, something a bit short in stature as well as distance - before saying goodbye.
Episode 107
Scott said that was it for episode 107 and welcomed Caroline, a listener who had spent weeks binge-listening every episode back to back and had joined them at Shellharbour, to the joy of waiting a whole week between episodes. He thanked Mel and said he would speak to her next week, hopefully from Malaysia, after setting her the task of flying to the new Taman Pudu Ulu event to hear the pronunciation from the source; Mel joked that if she did not make it to episode 108 he could find another co-host.
Episode 106
Scott turned from the Commonwealth Games to ask what they were doing at the weekend: he was run directing at Bright, using the volunteer app for the first time with Yvonne nervous on the stopwatch, and asked people coming to Bright to say hi and bring a GPS watch just in case. Mel would not say where she was going, teasing only that she would be sailing another sea somewhere in Queensland and that she had been to the craft store for costume accessories including velvet, to be revealed on Instagram on Saturday.
Episode 105
At the live listener meet-up an audience member thanked Scott and Mel for the weekend and asked where and when it would be next year. Mel said they had only found out that morning in the pre-run briefing that it was to be an annual thing, and thanked the listeners, saying she and Scott would be happy to have a phone conversation about parkrun every week but that it is the people listening that make them record it and put it out. Both credited Gary Murphy as the doer who had the idea and made it happen, and Scott closed by thanking him and the audience and saying they would do it again.
Episode 104
Mel said that as she would see Scott in a couple of days they should finish up, and Scott replied that she had not eased his anxiety about the listener meet-up one bit. They then argued about whether the episode was the penultimate one before the meet-up weekend, agreed they were on the same dictionary, and signed off saying they would see each other soon.
Episode 103
Scott asked where they were headed: Mel to a parkrun holding a Cheers for Volunteers run with everyone wearing purple (Scott signed off wishing her fun at Kawana), and Scott back to Studley for no milestone reason, just because he likes going there. They laid to rest their competition to visit new events, looked ahead to international adventures and to the following week's episode before the live-recorded Shellharbour meet-up, and reported that Brendan had negotiated permission for fancy dress at the dinner venue provided nobody covered their face or exposed their midriff; Scott closed by thanking Mel for a short and sharp episode after feedback that some listeners' commutes are under an hour.
Episode 102
Scott said that wrapped them up for the week; Mel reported there was no word of the week because she had remembered everything she meant to say, and Scott congratulated her on being four weeks back at work and on being a working mum. They trailed episodes 103, 104 and the listener meet-up episode 105 recorded live at Shellharbour on 24 March, and closed on Scott's dog Buster hiding behind his chair and getting run over by it.
Episode 101
Scott thanked Mel for sharing part of her trip, her four nights in Margaret River, and said it had been great catching up with Rowan Ardill and learning about his challenge. They then talked up Mel's alternative to running the date - a minute per date, so 31 minutes by the 31st - which Scott said a lot of their adventurers would step up to in March, while both ruled themselves out of the kilometre version.
Episode 100 - Lyndell Murray
Mel said 'on that note, I'll talk to you next week'; Scotty attempted a German farewell, which Mel corrected to Auf Wiedersehen, and the episode ends with the two of them still arguing about how many S's it has and Mel predicting somebody would write in to correct her.
Episode 99 - Patrick Tiernan
Scotty looked at the time, said it had been a long episode and they had to go, and thanked Mel again, saying he had thoroughly enjoyed it; she thanked him for joining her for episode 99 and called it a wonderful 99 episodes, and he said he could not wait to crack the ton next week.
Episode 98
With Wes making himself heard, Scotty said it was time to wrap it up, thanked Mel for another stellar week and trailed episode 99 as a fast one and a goodie; Mel signed off with 'over and out' as her headset was ripped off her head.
Episode 97
Scotty said 'on that note, let's wrap it up and we'll see you next week', and Mel said she would chat to him then.
Episode 96
Scotty said 'let's wrap it up' and asked where Mel was adventuring: she was going to Kawana, where the first two homegrown Kawana parkrunners were reaching the 250 club that weekend. They talked about how 250 takes rather more than five calendar years once volunteering is counted, and about how little fanfare their own milestones had; Mel then could not recall the word for the ratio of volunteering to runs, so they left it as the word of the week for listeners to guess before Scotty said he would chat to her next week.
Episode 95
With both sitting on 48 different events, the hosts said where they were headed over the break: Mel to Lota that weekend, the closest parkrun to her Brisbane family for an early Christmas, then volunteering at Nambour on Christmas Day, staying deliberately mysterious about the 30th, while Scotty was heading to Sydney, where he had run only Parramatta, and expected to add a new event over the New Year. They then wrapped up 2017, thanking each other for a year of podcasting, setting 100 episodes as the next goal after making 50, and wishing everyone a safe and merry festive season. Before finishing Scotty floated bringing in a 'B team' to fill the hiatus until their return on 23 or 24 January, Mel pointed listeners to the Listener Meetup location vote on Facebook, and they admitted Gary Murphy to the Channel 5 News Crew for singing the week's Christmas carol, with Scotty signing off 'see you next year'.
Episode 94
Scotty said they had started the episode in a festive mood and were finishing in one, as if they had planned it, and said he would speak to Mel next week; she said talk to you then.
Episode 93
Mel thanked Scotty for joining her, saying she knew he had had a rough time lately and that she appreciated him fitting the recording into his schedule; he said it was a high priority and that, alongside Saturday morning, whenever they recorded was a highlight of his week. They agreed to do it all again next week.
Episode 92
Mel said she was off to a milestone event that weekend, event ambassador Adam Gimbert's 250th parkrun at Coomera, the seventh event in Australia, which he had helped start, and that it would be her first time running at the same time as someone much faster on their way to the green shirt. After a short exchange about parkrun's big weekend in Germany, Scotty offered the German for 'go crazy', verruckt werden, which Mel declared the word of the week for episode 92, and he signed off telling her to go crazy on Saturday and that he would speak to her next week.
Episode 91
The hosts turned to the coming weekend, when they would be together again: Scotty said he was up to 48 different events and Mel 46, and she said she would be tail walking, having volunteered as Timekeeper at the last two trials and told Connie there was no way she could miss a run with the competition so hot. Scotty asked whether his running mate was coming along, said they would not be racing, and set himself the challenge of staying upright while walking the cross-country course.
Episode 90
Mel said that about wrapped it up for episode 90, they were out of the 80s and into the 90s, then flagged Naked November and the International Day of Running Naked on 18 November and asked whether Scotty would be running naked that weekend. He said he would give it a shot, joking it was tough on Elle, who had just won the watch and was now being told she could not wear it, and they wrapped up episode 90 agreeing to meet again for another chat next week.
Episode 89
Scotty said they had to wrap it up because people had lives to get to and it had been a long one, and thanked Mel again; she said it was her pleasure and joked that even at 1.5 times speed listeners would still get a solid hour in.
Episode 88
Scotty said 'that's another podcast done' and asked what else there was to wrap up with; Mel reminded listeners they had only one more week to get their perlustration responses in and to enter the TomTom giveaway, then lost the word she wanted (Scotty offered collaboration and cooperation, neither of which was it). They trailed November Madness returning next week with a contestant from New South Wales taking on carryover champion Melissa Ellis, and noted her Wicked Witch of the West-erfolds costume, with her daughter roped in, for the green theme at Westerfolds.
Episode 87
Mel said that was about it for the week and Scotty agreed they had had enough, trailing next week's episode as chock full of guests already lined up, with an old favourite returning and roving reports confirmed. He thanked Mel for joining him; she wished him a fabulous time at the Westerfolds anniversary, and he wished her the same for her own event's fifth anniversary, saying he eagerly awaited the Instagram photo to find out what 80s sports star he came up with.
Episode 86
Both hosts agreed they were done, and Mel said her attempt to equal Scotty on the most events list had been foiled by his exploits in New South Wales, that she would be at home or at events she had already done for the next couple of weeks, and asked whether he had adventures planned. Scotty said his flights were booked for another interstate trip that weekend but would not say where, and told a story about a propeller-plane hop from Canberra to Sydney during the week; he closed with 'thanks, Mel. On that note, I'll speak to you next week'.
Episode 85
Mel asked whether Scotty had any more surprises or adventures planned; he said he had a real fun adventure that week to a new event which he did not want to spoil and would tell her all about next week, and that he was not certain he would get to run it but would at least visit. Mel said she looked forward to hearing all about it, and the episode ends there.
Episode 84
The hosts trailed the return of the Perlustration for 2017, agreeing to write questions and come back with it next week. Scotty said he was staying at Westerfolds for International parkrun Day and Gush's 100th parkrun, while Mel's destination was yet to be confirmed and she thought she might go on an adventure; Scotty said he would wait to hear all about it on next week's episode.
Episode 83 - Kelly Hodges
Scotty said they were rambling and that it was time to wrap up episode 83; Mel said she looked forward to seeing him on the weekend for parkrun Day.
Episode 82
Scotty called it another great episode, even if he did say so himself, and thanked Mel for joining him once more; Mel said she was welcome and that she might get out and streak while the sun still shone.
Episode 81
The hosts said they were both heading to the Barossa on a road trip that weekend and would try to sneak in some freedom runs on the way, noting that Scotty had only run Mount Gambier in South Australia and Mel had done Torrens, and that they hoped to catch up with PK, their number one news reporter, in the flesh. Mel said she looked forward to reporting on the adventures in next week's podcast; Scotty thanked her and said she had not made him laugh too much, and Mel closed by pointing out, for those who missed it because it had not actually been said, that this had been episode 81.
Episode 80
Scotty said he hoped listeners had picked up the fun distributed through the episode but that the fun was over and they had to go; Mel joked they should have told people to streak with a podcast, which Scotty called the secret extra points. They finished on the running gag about spelling 'bingoe' with an E, Scotty promising to think of a word ending G-O-E and get back to her in episode 81, and Mel saying she would talk to him then.
Episode 79
Scotty said 'let's wrap it up' and thanked Mel for joining him, praising the week's episode and Brady in particular, and asked her to do it again next week. Mel said she looked forward to keeping track of his Streaky September every day, and Scotty said he had started it and wanted to finish it, with no repeat of August.
Episode 78
Scotty said 'that's it for another week' and called August Madness a big success and the highlight of the year so far; they debated whether the next one would be October or November Madness and noted the perlustration was also coming up again. Mel thanked Scotty and said she was off to the anniversary at Hervey Bay that weekend, where the theme was yellow, so she had to make yellow costumes for herself and Wes.
Episode 77
Mel called it another episode down, then said she had registered Adam for the 2K event the following weekend and was secretly making him a costume, and they talked up Streaky September and the freedom runs they had been challenged to do at events they had not yet done. They confirmed they were enjoying it and would be back next week, with Scotty pushing for 'August Madness', and Mel closed with 'see you later, parkrun adventurers'.
Episode 76
Scotty said the two of them were running together that week and teased listeners that, contrary to what he had said the previous week about there being no pod, he thought there would be one, possibly recorded in each other's actual presence, which they had not done since Melbourne the year before. Mel said it had been a mammoth episode and they should let everybody finish their runs, and Scotty thanked listeners for joining them and said see you all next week.
Episode 75
Scott called 'that's a wrap' on three weeks of podcasts in a row and, reversing what he had said the week before, put on record that there would be a podcast next week, with a week off possibly after that. They then swapped what they were excited about: Mel had bought fabric for Wes's first ever costume for the Sunshine Coast Marathon 2K family fun run, matching costumes of a famous family that she was trying to talk Adam into joining, she asked listeners to message him, while Scott was back at Westerfolds on Saturday with his girls volunteering, before heading to the Gold Coast for three days of talking parkrun at the conference.
Episode 74
Mel said that about did it for the week and checked in with where she was headed: nowhere new, and back to run directing at her home parkrun this coming weekend. Scott approved, teasing that his spies said she needed more practice at run directing, and told her to have fun before saying he would speak to her next week, 'maybe'.
Episode 73
Mel asked Scott whether he had any adventures coming up: his calendar was bare with no parkrun dates locked in for the next few weeks, and she was going back to events she had already done, so their competition would pause with her happily ahead. She then closed 'episode 70-something', and after a month off they agreed to a flexible rather than strictly weekly release; both said people had repeatedly asked where the podcast had gone, and Scott thanked those who had missed them and said it was good to catch up with Mel again.
Episode 72
Scott ended with 'and that's a wrap', saying he and Mel would hopefully speak to each other next week and telling listeners to stay tuned.
Episode 71
Scott thanked Renee for filling in this week while Mel was away with baby Wesley; Renee said she was keeping Mel's seat warm and asked Scott what he was doing next parkrun day. He would be out of the country for his first international parkrun at Bushy, the home of parkrun, having just reached 160 parkruns at Main Beach, and hoped to see the deer and talk to Danny about the tree that looks like the parkrun logo; Renee shared her own Bushy experience of just under 1,000 runners and the group who drink champagne after the run. Scott closed saying they were flying by the seat of their pants, that he thought there would be a podcast next week but not to hold them to it, and pointed listeners to the Facebook page and iTunes feed for episode 72.
Episode 70
Scott said that was it for the week, glad to have had the boss back and to have heard from Keith and the Run Nation Running Film Festival. They teased something exciting coming in the next few weeks, joked about the repeatedly postponed 'madness' segment and the still-delayed book club (Mel's copy had not arrived at the PO box), and Scott announced that he would sample another new event on Saturday while Mel was run directing, putting him one event ahead in their tally, which she promised would not last.
Episode 69
Scott called time on episode 69 and looked ahead to being 'in the 70s' next week, asking Mel to bring her 70s A-game; she said she would be there but costumeless, since she could no longer do up zips on the clothes she used to wear.
Episode 68
Scott closed after Club Corner fell through, the club they wanted were not returning calls, promising to persist and telling listeners to stay tuned. The hosts agreed the State of the Nation segment from the previous week had gone down well and would come back quarterly rather than monthly, and Scott thanked Mel for the week.
Episode 67
Scott said it had been another big show so they would wrap it up quickly, and trailed the return of Club Corner next week, saying he was announcing it on air to make sure they organised it. He thanked Mel for joining him again, and she thanked the listeners for joining them.
Episode 66
After the anniversaries, the hosts said they would keep the outro short and sweet, 'that is the outro', joking that listeners had been kept running, or riding the bus over several trips, by the length of the episode. They thanked each other, with Mel saying she would like to be back again next week and Scott saying he looked forward to the invitation.
Episode 65
The hosts praised the week's roving reporters, said it had been a long podcast and that it was time to wrap it up and give people time with their families or time to go for a run. They joked that anyone still running should go really hard until the podcast finished, deliberately dragged out the ending (considering and rejecting playing a song and shouting 'go, go, go' at commuters), and then said goodbye until next week.
Episode 64
The episode ended on a single line of thanks, Mel thanking Scott for joining her that week, coming straight out of the book-club exchange in which Scott reported finishing Born to Run without loving it and set The Landy Era as the book they would both read and discuss.
Episode 63
Scott called it, 'that's it for us, Mel, short and sharp this week', and Mel added that her cello streak had been broken by her trip to Melbourne, since she did not travel with her cello and had no time to find a cello store, but that a new streak would start that day. Scott asked for a report next weekend and hoped for seven more nights of fiddling, and they wished each other a good week.
Episode 62
Mel said that was all they had time for this week; Scott said he was looking forward to next week, and Mel replied that she had to survive the week first but there should be adventures to talk about, possibly DNF adventures or last-minute volunteering adventures. They signed off saying they would literally see each other next week.
Episode 61
Scott wrapped up the Strava segment, where listeners had been asked for their dream parkrun locations, and wished Mel a fantastic parkrun day, saying he would try to do the same; she said she would chat to him next week.
Episode 60
Straight out of the Club Corner interview with Nick from the Wooters, the hosts declared this the diamond edition of the parkrun adventurers podcast and agreed it had been worthy of one. They joked that 61 is not a milestone and that a first parkrun adventurers shirt should therefore carry a random episode number instead, then signed off until next week.
Episode 59 - Nicola Forwood
Scott said 'that does it for episode 59' after asking clubs to get in touch for Club Corner, and the hosts turned to the milestone ahead: they looked up what a 60th anniversary gift is (diamond, after Mel guessed cashmere) and agreed they would have to do something special and shiny for the diamond episode. Mel thanked Scott for welcoming her at the top of the show and for staying with her, and they agreed to meet next week for the 60th.
Episode 58
Scott said that was it for the week and Mel thanked him for joining her; they talked about being inspired every week by the people they interview, wished a belated happy birthday to parkrun Russia, whose birthday they had missed the week before, and joked about recruiting a Russian-to-English translator to join the pod and translate the show each week.
Episode 57
After Mel rejected his knock-knock joke as not a dad joke, Scott said 'that's it for episode 57' and that it was about time they did some adventuring; he was off for an adventure that weekend and would have something to report next week. Mel said she would not ask where, so as not to spoil the surprise, and thanked him for joining her.
Episode 56
Scott called it a good pod and thanked Mel for joining him; she pointed out that she had introduced the episode this week, and he said it would be his turn next week and joked he would reuse the same outro to save time.
Episode 55
Mel said that was pretty much all they had time for and told Scott to go and buy spikes; he revealed he had bought a pair of Velcro spikes between the intro and the outro that were 'a complete rip-off', which turned out to be the dad joke of the week. He asked Mel to bring her own joke to go out with in episode 56, and they said goodbye until next week.
Episode 54
The hosts wound up with Scott apologising for the episode being late, it was recorded the day after their usual release, as they had warned the previous week, and promising to be spot on next week; Mel said she already knew who the guests were and that it would be a good show.
Episode 53
Mel broke with tradition and asked Scott his weekend plans: he was taking the family on a road trip to Renmark in South Australia, a new event for him, and would report from it next week; Mel was at Kawana for the final week of the summer beach course before reverting to the normal course. Scott warned they would be recording and reporting on the road, so next week's episode might not appear until Saturday, and thanked Mel for the week.
Episode 52
Scott called time because Mel literally had to leave for her paid job, joked that everyone stops what they are doing to listen to the podcast, and told listeners to carry on with their lives; they promised to be back next week and Mel closed with 'try and have an adventure in the meantime'.
Episode 51
The hosts marked reaching episode 51, joking that they had not been sure they would come back and that, having met the goal of beating Robbo and Russ, they could technically retire after this episode, but committed to another whole year and asked listeners for guest ideas. They signed off wishing each other happy parkrunning for the week.
Episode 50
Scotty said episode 50 was done, thanked and congratulated Mel, and gave a history lesson on how the show began: when the parkrun Show Australia with Robbo and Russ finished he wanted a podcast to continue in Australia, so he asked Mel, who said yes immediately, and they had worked through their whole spreadsheet of ideas. Both said they were not done and would come back for another year. They finished as they always did with the cake item, noting no launches or anniversaries over Christmas but a chance at two parkruns in two days, talked about what to do with three weeks off before returning in the second week of January, and Scotty signed off with genuine thanks, saying he could not have picked a better co-host and would see her in a couple of weeks.
Episode 49
Scotty said all his Christmases had come at once because the iTunes reviews they had asked for arrived, all five stars and full of nice comments. They looked ahead to episode 50 the following week as a big deal, with Scotty asking for everyone in red for the 50th, before the episode dissolved into banter about podcasting in pyjamas and onesies, his claim that nobody listens to this bit at the end, and an unanswered request for Mel's bottom three parkruns and some karaoke.
Episode 48
Mel asked how excited Scotty was that only two podcasts remained before Christmas, and they used it to warn listeners they would take a break over Christmas and New Year after episode 50, suggesting anyone with free time work back through the catalogue from episode one. They praised their guest Simon and talked up Mossman parkrun, and Mel confirmed she would be back for episode 49 and for 50, closing with "until next week".
Episode 47
Scotty reported that his request for iTunes reviews the week before had produced several, and thanked listeners. He told everyone to enjoy their parkruns over the weekend and to plan their Christmas and New Year parkruns, thanked Mel for joining him for episode 47 and asked if she was coming back for 48, then set listeners the homework of telling their friends about the podcast.
Episode 46
Scotty marked 46 episodes down and the end of the year approaching, saying they were going to make it to episode 50, and Mel noted they would have to change the logo back to red in time for Christmas. Scotty then asked listeners for iTunes reviews and five-star ratings, saying he did not care if the comments called their banter a waste of time as long as a review went in, and they said goodbye to each other.
Episode 45
Scotty said that was it, another podcast done, and noted there had not been a lot of general banter this week so "Matt" should be happy. He thanked Mel for joining them and prompted her to say goodbye, which she did, asking why she was always the one who had to say it and suggesting they change it up next week.
Episode 44
Scotty asked whether Club Corner was becoming Mel's favourite segment, and she said she loved learning about the clubs. They floated a parkrun adventurers tour bus with South Africa as its first destination, told listeners to start saving, and Scotty thanked Mel for joining him. After a detour into cricket and pink balls he set the week's homework of saving for the South Africa tour and learning about cricket, then prompted Mel to say goodbye.
Episode 43 - Satoshi Ashida
Straight off the first Club Corner interview, Scotty said that was how they would finish every episode from now on and that all they had to do was say goodbye, and Mel said goodbye.
Episode 42 - Tim Oberg
Scotty called it for their "marathon episode", saying it was not quite their longest ever but they had tried. After some fumbling over who should say goodbye and Mel dutifully saying "Goodbye, Mel", they exchanged goodbyes and Scotty said he would see her, and the listeners, next week before the recording stopped.
Episode 41 - Noah Carter
After the anniversaries, in which Mel said she would be baking two cakes for Kawana's fourth anniversary barcode party and Scotty told her to have fun and that he could not wait to hear about it next week, he thanked her and handed off to close the show with underscore PK's roving report.
Episode 40 - Shoes for Planet Earth
Scotty asked for the crime report they had promised to finish on; Mel raised the clown sightings but said it was not parkrun crime, so they agreed to workshop it for another week. Citing the survey verdict of no more than 60 minutes, Mel said they should sign off, thanked Scotty for joining her again and said she would see him around in episode 41.
Episode 39 - Simon Kilma
Scotty wished Mel a wonderful week, she wished him the same, and he closed by saying they would do it all again next week.
Episode 38 - Tom Do Canto
Mel proposed finishing the podcast there, and Scotty gave his word of the week, equanimity, defined as being mentally or emotionally stable under strain, arguing it described him better than lazy and laid back. He said three weeks might be enough for the segment, and they joked about qualifying as a crime podcast instead, with a crime report or a whodunit, before the episode dissolved into banter and Mel's singing.
Episode 37 - Danny Norman
Coming out of the anniversaries, Mel asked Scotty for the week's educational word, and he offered "indolent", admitting he had been lazy and had not run enough during the week. Mel thanked him for the educational moment, he hoped the rest of her week and his own would be energetic and industrious, and he closed by trailing a massive episode 38 next week.
Episode 36 - Lucy Bartholomew
After teasing Scotty about whether he had looked up synonyms for survey to come up with "perlustration", Mel suggested he teach everyone a new word every week; Scotty said that was how they could finish the podcast, and delivered the first word of the week, perlustration.
Episode 35 - Tom Williams
Scotty said that took them to the end of another parkrun adventurers podcast and told listeners to look out on Facebook later in the week for a survey asking whether they preferred laps or out-and-backs, among other questions, joking that anyone listening three months later had missed the best survey. Mel disagreed, closing with the line that the best time to plant a tree was yesterday and the second best time is now.
Episode 34 - Bill Irving
Mel thanked Scotty for joining her on the podcast this week and said it was good fun; he thanked her back, and she told him to "just say done and then we're done", which he did.
Episode 33 - Euan Bowman
The hosts said where they were headed for parkrun day out of the nine anniversaries listed: Mel north to Hervey Bay, Scotty partying at Maribyrnong. Scotty then called it for another week and thanked the band Neon Nightclub for the podcast music, pointing listeners to Facebook and wherever else they find music, and they went out on a full song, wishing everyone a great rest of the week, a great parkrun day and a great parkrun adventure.
Episode 32 - Lorraine Lawson
Mel said the week's only cake was in Tasmania for a second anniversary and that they had come to the end again, and Scotty trailed next week: a new Strava competition and Mel's report from the Sunshine Coast Marathon, where she had entered the 2K starting at 11am and had not yet chosen a costume. She asked listeners to hashtag parkrunadventurers on Facebook or Instagram, or tweet, with costume suggestions, and Scotty closed by thanking her for the pod and saying he looked forward to hearing about her adventures next week.
Episode 31 - Stephen Dinneen
Scotty said they had come to the end and asked whether Mel had caught Olympic fever; she admitted the run of interviews with Steve, Robbo, Scotty Westcott and Jess Trengove had her a little feverish. They set each other and the listeners the task of finding a favourite Olympic moment nobody else was talking about to report on next week, wished everyone a good week and a good parkrun day Saturday, joked about leaving Mel's yawn in the edit, and signed off with "See you next week".
Episode 30 - Hamilton Island
Coming out of the anniversaries, Scotty said the Olympic-themed events were good for them because they were going Rio crazy next week, and Mel thanked him for joining her again after their two weeks off, saying she had missed him. They joked about the break, with Mel saying she could have had another week and Scotty proposing they take one every 29 weeks.
Episode 29 - Jessica Trengove
Scotty said "that's it for this week" and reminded listeners there would be no episode the following week because he and Mel were taking a mid-year holiday, with episode 30 due in the first week of August, joking it gave anyone behind an extra week to catch up. He then thanked Mel for the tip about the limited-edition Cadbury tropical pineapple chocolate he had bought.
Episode 28 - The Run Beyond Project
Scotty ended the episode with "Anyway, that's it. Good show", Mel said she had enjoyed it, and he trailed the next episode: a special guest they would not name, another powwow he was heading to, and his wife celebrating her 100th parkrun that week.
Episode 27 - Dani McLaren
Scotty declared "another week, another episode done", and Mel left listeners with the reverse parkrun freedom run challenge, urging them to get creative, do it any day or time, in head torches as they had at Nambour or in fancy dress, and to send audio in to parkrunadventurers at gmail.com. Scotty said his own torrential rain at Coburg meant there were no excuses, and they said goodbye and see you next week.
Episode 26 - Double Anniversary
After the launches and anniversaries, the hosts teased a listener challenge they refused to explain, promising to reveal it the following week and to attempt it themselves during the week, with Scotty giving the only clues that it had to do with running and with parkrun. He then left listeners with that thought and said he would see them all next week, and Mel closed with "Happy adventures, guys".
Episode 25 - parkrun Singapore
Scott said they had come to the end of another episode and that they had saved the best for last, dissecting Game 7 of the NBA Finals, but Mel had missed it entirely, asking which sport it was, whether Michael Jordan or Shaquille O'Neal were still playing, and offering as her hot take that the team in the long white shirts would win. Scott said the game was over and that it had been one of the great series in NBA history, admitted they were still struggling with a way to end the show, thanked Mel for joining him and said they would see listeners next week.
Episode 24 - Rochelle Vaisanen
Scott said he would love to have got to Wangaratta's first anniversary but would not make it, wished Laura and her team well, and asked Mel about heading to Town of Seaside that weekend. Mel said it had been four or five weeks between costumes, that she always runs in her costumes whether or not they are built for it, recalling running Noosa parkrun dressed as Slimer and looking like a giant deflated booger after the costume's fan fell out in the first 500 metres, and that she faced a gauntlet of anniversaries at least every second week until September. Scott said they would have plenty to talk about, looked forward to pictures on Instagram, and signed off with "see you next week".
Episode 23 - Brendan Davies
Mel said that was all they had time for and that they had come to the end of another one; asked how he would rate it, she put it in the top 23, maybe even the top 24. Scott said he had fun, that it was great catching up with the week's guests, apologised that the episode was a bit late and looked forward to doing it all again next week, after which Mel pointed out that they were pretty sure they had not said goodbye.
Episode 22 - Anita Afonso
Scott said that was it for another episode of the parkrun adventurers and thanked Mel for joining him again; Mel replied that he was welcome, hoped everyone enjoyed the show that week, and said they would see listeners next week for another parkrun adventure.
Episode 21 - Longest Run
Scott hoped the episode had got listeners to the end of their long run or filled up their commute, and joked that they should shout "parkrun adventurers!" when stepping off the bus. He trailed Tim's return to the podcast next week after a break and asked listeners to send saved-up questions to the podcast's Gmail address or by Facebook message, to hashtag anything parkrun-adventuring related so the hosts could find it on Twitter and Instagram, and to leave a five-star iTunes review with honest feedback in the comments; they closed with a promise to catch up next week and Mel's "happy adventuring".
Episode 20 - Scott Westcott
Scott said that was it for episode 20 of the parkrun adventurers and hoped listeners had enjoyed the episode's different musical twist, remarking that life is sometimes too short so you may as well enjoy what you have right now. He said they would leave listeners with a full song by the band Big Smoke, and wished everyone good adventures for the week.
Episode 19 - Facts in a Haystack
Scott said they had received lots of good suggestions for clever and witty sign-offs and that they had all gone in the think tank, which Mel noted was getting pretty big. He said they therefore had no witty sign-off this week, and would instead leave the episode with the review Jeremy and Kelly recorded of their adventure to Balyang Sanctuary parkrun.
Episode 18 - Rodney Turner
Scott said that took them out for episode 18, thanked listeners and hoped Mel would join him again next week; Mel said she would, and hoped her voice would return to normal. They noted that 18 episodes in they still had not worked out how to sign off the show and asked listeners to message suggestions for witty sign-off lines along the lines of "Stay classy, San Diego". Scott then named himself Scott Trickett and Mel Melissa Erbacher, said they were the parkrun adventurers, and said goodbye.
Episode 17 - South Australia
Scott said all the limelight was on the Parkville launch this week, hoped Mel was enjoying her adventure in Tasmania and asked where she was off to next; Mel said she would be at Launceston parkrun that weekend and would also do a Freedom Run of the Devonport parkrun course on the Friday, and hoped Scott would be back to being Scotty rather than snotty next week. She thanked listeners for tuning in again and said they would chat next week.
Episode 16 - Pat Farmer
Mel said that was it from them for the week, called it a big episode and hoped listeners enjoyed it; Scott agreed it was another long one, said they would be back next week with their 17th episode and said goodbye, and Mel closed with a chat to you next week.
Episode 15 - Melissa Flentjar
Scott set listeners homework instead of an adventure, to think during their runs or at parkrun about which piece of merchandise or accessory adventurers are missing, and to let the hosts know so they could make it happen, then called the episode for the week, noting they had promised a short one and asking what listeners with a 40 or 50 minute run planned would do for the remaining 20 minutes; Mel suggested they start listening to a previous episode again.
Episode 14 - Brendan Murray
Scott said it was time to wrap it up for the week and wished Mel good luck for her weekend, saying he was very jealous; Mel replied that no luck is necessary in costume making, it is all in the preparation, and that it was all about the shiny bling at the end. Scott said he looked forward to the reports she would bring back for next week's podcast, Mel said it would be great to hear from the West Australians, and Scott signed off until next Wednesday.
Episode 13 - Junior Adventurers
Mel called it a fun episode, said she had loved having the junior adventurers on and wanted more of them in future, and Scott said he had also enjoyed catching up with Miriam and Ian. Scott then trailed Tim's return next week and asked for questions through the usual channels, Facebook messaging or parkrunadventurers@gmail.com, Mel asked listeners having an adventure that week to tell a fellow adventurer about the podcast, and Scott closed with "come back next week, see you everyone".
Episode 12 - Trevor Allen
After the Easter-themed anniversaries, Mel remarked that that was it already, another week over, and that listeners would have to wait another seven days; Scott said next week would be their 13th episode, prompting banter about whether 13 is lucky, and both thanked the listeners who had been with them since January. The episode then dissolved into banter about Scott's Elvis-sounding "thank you very much", his rule that he only sings in German, and a request that he save 99 Red Balloons for episode 99.
Episode 11 - Freedom
Scott called it for what he termed the Melbourne edition, corrected by Mel to the Victorian edition with a strong Melbourne flavour, and said it had been awesome having her in the studio; Mel said she had been very happy to be there. Scott pointed listeners to Instagram for photos taken while recording and of their Freedom Run, and the two agreed to arrange a Queensland studio for a future episode, Mel offering somewhere on a beach with a laptop.
Episode 10 - Brad Beer
Scott asked Mel how listeners could best get a message to the parkrun adventurers, and she gave a Facebook message as the easiest route, plus the hashtag parkrunadventurers on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and the email address parkrunadventurers@gmail.com. Scott then trailed episode 11, to be recorded with both hosts together on location, and, as Mel added, at a parkrun location, before leaving it there and hoping listeners would join them next week.
Episode 9 - Jakub Fedorowicz
Scott noted there were no anniversaries or launches in parkrun Australia that weekend and asked listeners to send in questions for Tim Oberg for next week's podcast; Mel urged them to make the questions good ones, since nowhere else does the general manager of parkrun Australia answer everybody's questions. She thanked Scott for another parkrun adventure, congratulated him again on launching Studley and said she was off to price flights to Poland and work out how to navigate the Polish parkrun website; Scott said he would stick around Studley a few more weeks before booking his flights, and closed until next week.
Episode 8 - parkdogs
Scott thanked Mel and said he had really enjoyed this week, and said goodbye on behalf of Champ and Buster since he knew they would not; Mel said everyone should get out and parkrun with their park dogs, spoke to Inu, and looked forward to seeing listeners on the podcast waves again next week.
Episode 7 - Ashley Cowley
Scott reminded listeners not to forget the hashtag parkrunadventurers and thanked Mel for another action-packed program; Mel trailed next week's Facts in a Haystack with Ian Hay returning, and Scott noted Ian had been refining his database in the background. They closed on banter about Scott eating fortune cookies as a meal, his last fortune reading "great success awaits you", and Mel thanked listeners and looked forward to chatting again next week.
Episode 6 - Northern Territory
Mel signed off saying she was off to watch Mo' Better Blues, told Scott she would talk to him later and said see you later to the parkrun adventurers; Scott hoped she enjoyed it, said he might catch up on Clueless, and closed by saying they would chat to everyone again next Wednesday.
Episode 5 - Dave Robbo
Scott declared them done for the week and trailed next week's guest, Mark Connolly in Darwin, calling on him to come on the show and noting Darwin is the only parkrun in the Northern Territory, so it would be an interesting perspective; Mel agreed it would be a great one. They also mentioned a movie launching the following week that Mel was coordinating a group outing to through her running club, and said they would talk about it in the next episode before signing off.
Episode 4 - Matt Shields
Scott trailed next week's show, Tim Oberg returning, with the question forum opened to listeners via a Facebook post, email or Twitter, and Mel added that they would also be adventuring to South Australia with an Event Director guest whose identity they kept as a surprise. They closed with a reminder to keep in touch during the week using the hashtag parkrunadventurers on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, Scott's instruction to shout "yes" if a run briefing asks whether there are any adventurers present, and a goodbye until next week.
Episode 3 - Ian Hay
Mel noted Australia Day parkruns were happening at many events across the country that weekend and trailed a special guest for next week; Scott said it would be great to have Robbo on, to reminisce about the parkrun Show Australia podcast and to talk about the upcoming Terrace parkrun launch on 30 January. Scott then called it for their third episode with a joke about calling anyone whose name you forget Dave, and Mel added "or Sarah, if it's a girl" and looked forward to chatting next week.
Episode 2 - Norm Phillips
Scott reminded listeners to use the hashtag parkrunadventurers so the hosts could find their tweets and Instagram posts, noting there had not been many the previous week; Mel gave the Twitter handle PR_Adventurers, the Instagram and Facebook pages, and thanked anyone who had made it to the end. Scott credited the show's music to his friend Yeo, whose single Icarus was on iTunes with an album due in February, thanked Mel and looked forward to chatting again next week.
Episode 1
Scott turned from congratulating Alan at Shepparton to wrapping up, thanking Mel for their very first episode and predicting they would come back and cringe at it after 100 and 200 episodes; Mel said everyone needs a parkrun fix by Tuesday. Scott asked listeners to like, review on iTunes and share the show, pointing to the Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts and the hashtag parkrunadventurers, and Mel closed by wishing listeners a good parkrun day, lots of parkrun adventures and a chat next week.
