Episode 113
Never released.
No audio, no date, no show notes, no transcript. The numbering goes 112, then 114, and that is the only gap in 461 episodes.
The hosts explained it at the top of episode 114. Scott Trickett, who had just been caught skipping a week of intros, pointed out that “this should be episode 113”. Melissa Erbacher agreed: “your superstitions are founded in reality and it seems that episode 113 was a little bit cursed.” Two attempts at booking guests, two failures “beyond our control, beyond their control” — and then the decision: “we’re just going to write it off as a bad job and skip straight to 114.”
The dates say something the hosts did not. Episode 112 went out on 25 May 2018 and episode 114 on 31 May 2018, six days later. No week was lost. Only a number was.
It is, however, remarkably well documented for something that does not exist. It has a database record, a flag of its own, and three separate pieces of code written to step around it. Its blank publication date once made the statistics page announce that the show had been “published between and 2026-08-27”.
The same conversation contains the exact opposite of this archive’s founding principle. “I think we should say, yes, we’ve just released episode 400,” said Mel. “We don’t need to tell everyone that there weren’t 400 episodes to get there.”
Scotty had already asked “who decided that things have to go up in numerical order anyway?” — and ten months later the show released Episode 59:59, which is filed here between 152 and 153. Somebody should probably tell Mel.
They reached a real episode 400 on 18 Oct 2024.
