The parkrun adventurers induct a worthy new member into the Channel 5 News Crew. We chat to two-time Event Director and parkrun Australia Board member Matt Fullerton, and Lyndell Murray and Melissa Ellis are back with roving reports from St Lucia (opens in a new tab) and Inverloch (opens in a new tab) parkruns. Plus we throw out an exciting new challenge to all adventurers.

The return of the Event Director interview: launching Bright parkrun after relocating from Melbourne to the Victorian high country, minus-two-degree winter mornings and a nine-person Saturday, founding Lilydale Lake parkrun after discovering parkrun on holiday at Merimbula, his three kids' varying enthusiasm, junior parkrun and his parkrun Australia board role, plus favourite events (Wilson Botanic, Coburg) and a bucket-list trip to Kalgoorlie.

Scott Trickett and Melissa Erbacher, with Scotty's week taken over by music rather than parkrun: back-to-back albums from Father John Misty and Kanye West cheered him up after a planned romantic weekend away with his wife was cut short on the Friday night when Kasia, left with Nanny, spiked a high temperature and they drove two hours home, so no new event and no parkrun. Mel has a new album from a favourite band, the first in seven years, that she is saving until she is in the right mood. Scotty then promises something to lift her spirits.

Melissa Ellis is formally inducted into the Channel 5 News Crew. The hosts recap the "level-up challenge" they set her in episode 107, file a report in which she finds a Scott and a Mel to interview, and play her successful Inverloch report, complete with cinnamon doughnuts for Scott and pineapple chocolate for Melissa. Mel: "From number one fan to Channel 5 News crew, you're in, honey ... we'll add you to the secret Facebook group later." Later in the outro Lyndell also signs off "for the Channel 5 News crew", and PK is congratulated as a crew member on reaching his 100 Club milestone.

Explicitly revived after a long absence, Scott: "It's the return of the Event Director interview. It's been missing, it's been in hibernation." Matt Fullerton, current ED of Bright parkrun (Victorian high country), establishing ED of Lilydale Lake and a parkrun Australia board member, on launching Bright after relocating from Melbourne, minus-two-degree winter mornings, his three kids, junior parkrun, and board strategy. In the outro the hosts ask listeners whether the ED interview should return more regularly.

The main roving block: Melissa Ellis continues from Inverloch with new Victorian Statesperson Rhianna (Bendigo) and Run Director Addie, then Lyndell Murray reports from St Lucia parkrun in Brisbane, the Brisbane 5K Koalas running club, ED Paul, and a course description. Hosts wrap "Great work, ladies ... both official members of the Channel 5 News crew" and put out a call for more reports and iTunes reviews.

Mel called it another awesome episode with a surprising guest whose name she pretended not to remember, and thanked all the guests they have on. They asked listeners for feedback on whether to bring back Event Director interviews more regularly, and after riffing on haikus and poems decided on a new outro segment - the Poem Zone, with a parkrun haiku competition and a prize - before Scott thanked Mel and said they would speak next week.

Coined live in the outro: after asking for feedback "iTunes reviews or poems", Mel proposes a parkrun haiku competition with a prize, and Scott names it after a song lyric, "last night I wrote a poem, I guess I was in the poem zone. So can we call the new segment The Poem Zone?" Mel commits to reading out roughly one poem a week in the outro. Almost certainly the "exciting new challenge to all adventurers" promised in the show notes.
