Roving reports
In this episode
Welcome starts at 0:15
Melissa Erbacher and Scott Trickett, neither of whom made it to parkrun on Saturday, unplanned for both; Mel was cranky about it but got her fix at a trial run for a new event on Sunday, while Scotty had Westerfolds juniors and then Melbourne's Longest Run, one of three in the city this year with a proper bus laid on by a running group, walking Westerfolds with organiser Rowan and running four more, with Kasia walking a half marathon. Queensland has spread its three Longest Runs over three weeks, New South Wales ran theirs on the long weekend with a lot of meetup adventurers along, and the Sunshine Coast one is this coming weekend, though Mel has no plans to go.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 31:34
David Moss files a roving report from Lawson parkrun in the Blue Mountains, NSW, interviewing Kai Porrett about the all-trail course (creek crossing with stepping stones, the "hill of awesomeness") and the Porrett family's involvement, then Roger, a local with around 75 Lawson runs.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 38:11"Where is the cake?"
Launch at Port Sorell in Tasmania, plus anniversaries at Carine Glades (WA), Dolls Point (NSW), Mernda (VIC), North Shore (QLD), Shellharbour (NSW), one further Queensland event, Wangaratta (VIC) and Yeppoon (QLD), with the usual argument about which one runs first.
Poem Zone starts at 40:08
Listener parkrun haiku segment, named by Scott the previous week. Mel explains the 5-7-5 haiku form; Scott reads the first entry, from Chris Timewell, inspired to write his first poem in 20-plus years: "Three laps with a lake / Friends, frost and tunnel of love / Castlemaine parkrun", which leads into an explanation of Castlemaine's tunnel of love for milestone runners. More entries held over for coming weeks.
Sign-off starts at 50:37
Scott said the episode had made him happy but was coming to an end, then asked where they were going that week: Mel back to Kawana Beach parkrun if she could, Scott nowhere new. Mel finished by telling how Adam had realised he was only five or six events behind her on the most events list and had got a bee in his bonnet about catching up, planning a sneaky trip away with Wes to an event she had not done.
