Glen Turner
His new role after almost four years with parkrun UK's communications team: reaching underrepresented groups (people with disabilities and long-term health conditions, disadvantaged and remote communities, prisons and rehab facilities, older people), and the announcement at Launceston parkrun by Sports Minister Senator Bridget McKenzie of $1.8 million in Better Ageing Grant funding for the parkrun Generations Project, which aims to get 50,000 more over-65s involved. Also covers spectating as a legitimate form of participation, and a shout-out to first-time Run Director Josh Brooks.

Welcome starts at 0:16
Mel Erbacher and Scotty Trickett back for 2019 on the fourth attempt at recording the intro, skipping January altogether. Scott made his first ever trip to Tasmania for Queens Domain parkrun in Hobart with 18 Westerfolds mates on cheap flights Amanda found (most of them a 3am same-day trip), bagging his Q with only U and Y left in the alphabet, while Yvonne has already claimed stopwatch bingo under 200 runs; Mel was in the same state volunteering as roving photographer at Launceston parkrun, walking most of the course to capture every Marshal, with a guest later in the episode to explain why she was there.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 38:38
The month's backlog of roving reports, explicitly framed as the Channel 5 News crew: "We may have taken a few weeks off, but our Channel 5 News crew didn't. So we've got heaps of raving [roving] reports to catch up on." Mel runs the batting order, TOC at Wyndham Vale, Melissa Ellis at Mansfield, Lyndell at South Toowoomba, and three consecutive weeks from Mark Scarborough at Burley Griffin, Huskisson and Studley. Runs-.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 1:06:07"Where is the cake?"
Catch-up on January launches and the coming weekend's anniversaries. Launches: KM Reedy Reserve on 12 January (with the man himself turning up to see what the parkrun gig was about), plus Mildura Weir in Victoria and Yowie parkrun in Queensland the weekend just gone. No launches for the coming weekend; anniversaries at Golden Beach (Qld), Goulburn (NSW), Ipswich (Qld), Lake Mac (NSW), Moora (WA) and Nhill (Vic), with a running gag about the hosts mispronouncing Moora and Nhill.
Summer Time Travelling Series starts at 1:07:40
Brand new segment launched in this episode, complete with its own theme music: Scott and Mel go back over the events they visited during the podcast's summer break. Episode 1 covers 22 December (Scott at Ocean Grove for his O, debuting the Ugly Christmas Singlets; Mel volunteering at Kawana) and Christmas Day (Scott at Westerfolds; Mel at Rocks Riverside). Scott signs it off "that's Episode 1 of the Summer Time Travelling Series" and trails 29 September and New Year's Day parkruns for next week.
Sign-off starts at 1:22:12
Scott called for the wrap - "Let's wrap up this week, Mel. 144 is in the books" - and said he was already looking forward to 145, or maybe even 113 if they ever got back to that one, with Mel agreeing they would.
