Roving reports
In this episode
Welcome starts at 0:18
Mel Erbacher hosting with Scotty Trickett on the line after a weekend together; episode 145 went out late on Saturday because Scott was too busy having fun to edit. Both were at the Sirromet parkrun anniversary with its aubergine-and-orange theme for volunteers and Aussie vests: Mel, six months pregnant, walked the hilly, un-pram-friendly cross-country course through head-high grass past wallabies, blowing up on the cambered hill near 4.5km, while Scott toured the grounds with ambassador Alan, thanked the turnaround volunteers and gave in to a pineapple Zooper Dooper; both praised a particularly friendly volunteer crew.
Event review ranking system starts at 8:22
Scott's new out-of-five rating for the event they visited: "We started the review ranking system last week. What are we doing? Five out of five?" He gives Sirromet parkrun five out of five; Mel is sceptical, "Is this whole ranking system just a means for you to give every event five out of five every week?" Distinct from the most-events-list rule change they also bicker about.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 30:56
A roving report from Lyndell Murray at Queen's Domain parkrun, Tasmania, held over from the summer break, Scott: "somewhere in the universe, we lost one... we're going to extend the time travel episode to go back in time to when Lyndell adventured to Queen's Domain." She covers the event's first anniversary, a new course and a Q-themed dress-up day, captures the event's rhyming run briefing, then interviews Event Director Nicholas. The show notes name her as "Channel 5 News Crew member Lyndell"; the episode itself calls it a roving report, so this one straddles both names.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 43:33"Where is the cake?"
Mel: "No new launches coming up this week in Australia, Scotty. However, we've got a handful of anniversaries to celebrate across the country." Anniversaries listed: Newborough and Nightcliff (NT), Panania (NSW), Studley (VIC, turning three) and Tuggeranong (ACT). Leads into Scott announcing he'll be at Studley on Saturday and Mel at Stone's Corner, Brisbane.
Sign-off starts at 49:06
Scott thanked Mel for the week, saying it was great to chat a couple of days after seeing her in person and to see her name and away form appear on his computer screen; Mel said it was her pleasure and suggested they do it again next week, and they signed off for 147, "or 113, you never know."
