In this episode
Welcome starts at 0:21
Gary Murphy sits in Scotty's chair as guest co-host with Melissa Erbacher, who says Scotty is not returning her messages. They chat about snow covering Orange parkrun and whether anyone has done a beach-and-snow double; Mel run directed at her home event, edging toward her 2019 RD target, while Gary timekept at a 13-strong Lancefield in cold Melbourne weather and shared the park's megafauna history. They float sending a search party of roving reporters to find Scotty.
Meet the ED starts at 10:33
Melissa Erbacher and Gary Murphy interview Tabitha Schulz, Event Director of the brand-new Broken Hill Racecourse parkrun (NSW), three events in. She covers the closure of the original Broken Hill parkrun after landowner permission was revoked, the difficulty of finding a new course in a desert town, the flatter but sandy new course on racecourse land and the Willyama Common, steady early numbers, her route into parkrun after a heart attack three months post-partum, her daughters' volunteering milestones, and Kirk the event's gnome mascot.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 23:49
The episode's whole spine: with Scott Trickett missing, the crew is dispatched to hunt for him. Mark Scarborough runs the odds and reports from Coombs parkrun (Canberra); Greta almost catches him; Paul Kitching reports from Carisbrooke parkrun's 100th event (SA); Tony O'Connell reports from Newport Lakes (Vic); Lyndell Murray searches Kelvin Grove (Brisbane); Melissa Ellis works New South Wales. Melissa Erbacher notes that the whole crew has not rallied for a single purpose since episode 143.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 44:25
An international roving report from Hasenheide parkrun in Berlin by an unnamed Australian reporter, sitting apart from the Channel 5 News Crew Scotty-hunt material. He interviews English tourist Andrew Bull, an Australian holidaymaker called David, and Run Director Susan, who explains the name (Hasenheide, 'bunny heath'), the single hill, the roughly 50/50 local-to-tourist split and the bilingual run briefing.
Sign-off starts at 1:08:30
Gary called Mel's on-air appeal to the absent Scotty a perfect way to finish and said Scotty would have to come back on the strength of it. He told listeners to keep looking for Scotty and to report any sighting, and said they looked forward to hearing his excellent podcast ability back on the show next week. Mel thanked Gary for joining her, saying it had been fun and that it was always lovely to speak to a fellow propeller head even if he was from Victoria, and Gary signed off insisting they needed Scotty back.
