Welcome starts at 0:23
Tim Oberg guest-hosting with Melissa Erbacher, who is joining him only virtually and wishes she were in Airlie Beach; they joke about former host Scott Trickett and tease a big announcement at the end of the episode. Tim's highlight is his dad Terry's first parkrun at Sandgate in about 54 minutes, tying in with the Better Ageing project; Mel's NENDY trip took the family to Yowie parkrun in Kilcoy (event 38 for her Wilson Index), with a detour into Yowie folklore, Adam third finisher pushing the pram and Mel breaking 54 minutes with a 53:42, Esther the co-ED run directing.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 14:09
Three roving reports in a block: Lyndell Murray from Redcliffe parkrun (Moreton Bay, QLD), where she interviews the on-course volunteers mid-run - Tail Walker Berenice, marshal/photographer Paul, south-end marshal Warren and Run Director Amelia; Sarah from the Sunday trial of the soon-to-launch Aurora parkrun at Wollert in Melbourne's north, with visiting Highlands parkrun runners, the co-EDs and local participants; and Nadine's first-ever roving report, filed from Swakopmund parkrun in Namibia - the show's first Namibian report. Lyndell signs off explicitly "for the Channel 5 News crew", and Mel recaps all three from the studio, also noting a fourth report from Dave at Coldham's Common parkrun in the UK that could not be aired because the audio files failed to transfer.
Ugly Christmas Singlets starts at 47:19
The episode's trailed "big announcement": ordering for the 2019 parkrun adventurers Ugly Christmas Singlets is open, and Mel proclaims that the third Saturday of December - 21 December 2019 - will from now on be Ugly Christmas Singlet Day. She traces the idea to the early-2000s Canadian ugly Christmas sweater party that grew to about a thousand attendees, explains that Australia's climate is why the show made singlets rather than sweaters or jumpers, and notes the earlier ordering window should get international listeners their singlets before Christmas. Tim endorses it and says he wears last year's singlet year-round.
Sign-off starts at 52:38
Mel said that probably just about wrapped it up for the week and thanked Tim for coming to join her as co-host, calling it good fun; Tim said he enjoys every appearance whether as co-host or guest, loves the podcast and what she does, and was glad to keep supporting it. Mel added that they would need him back as a guest before too long because he no longer works for parkrun Australia and they wanted to hear the ins and outs of being Strategic Director of Asia Pacific.
