Welcome starts at 0:23
Lyndell Murray and Melissa Erbacher, opening with Get Smart jokes about Agent 86. Lyndell's pirate-voiced roving report from Cormorant Bay drew plenty of feedback, but that event is now cancelled until at least January after bushfires damaged the course; the pair talk drought, the dry creek crossing at Bunyaville and Lyndell's recent trip to Ros Gregor Trail at Nanango. Lyndell timekept in a tutu at Bunyaville's sixth birthday (158 finishers) to tick off her 25-volunteer milestone, and they debate whether Bunyaville is the friendliest or one of the toughest alongside Nambour, Ocean View and Mundy Regional; Mel did nothing adventurous.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 10:12
Two short "roving report lites" run back to back. Melissa Ellis reports from Gungahlin parkrun in the ACT, where she spotted both this year's and last year's Ugly Christmas Singlets at the briefing and tracked down the wearers, Nicole (a Melbournian who mostly runs at Gungahlin, with her dog approaching her 100th) and Hayley (part of a Gungahlin group order, a tourist to Sydney, Merimbula and Batemans Bay). Cameron Drake then interviews Craig Lawrence, who has just completed every parkrun in WA. The hosts tease Cameron afterwards for never saying where he was roving from, Lyndell guesses Tamworth Wetlands.
Statesmen update starts at 15:01
Craig Lawrence is congratulated for joining the list of Western Australian statesmen, having completed every parkrun in WA in 2019 bar Wandoo Prison, finishing at Tamworth. Mel notes WA currently has 38 events, "almost a year of adventuring", and Lyndell notes the sheer distance involved, from Kununurra to Mount Clarence.
Ugly Christmas Singlets starts at 16:28
Extended discussion of the 2019 parkrun adventurers Ugly Christmas Singlet: orders have reopened until midnight Wednesday 11 December, last year's version is now treated as a collector's item, and Mel coins "the JOGI", the Joy Of Getting In, the opposite of FOMO (and the source of the episode title). Mel promises a "Melster class" Facebook post on making your own DIY singlet for anyone who misses the second order round, ahead of the inaugural International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day on 21 December 2019. Picked up again as what both hosts most look forward to in the next four weeks.
palm20 destination announcement starts at 23:56
Lyndell is handed the official announcement that palm20 will be held at Mount Barker parkrun, South Australia. Mel calls it an apt choice because two Channel 5 News Crew roving reporters, PK and Greta, have Mount Barker as their home parkrun, and asks adventurers to be on their best behaviour for the event team.
Running challenges with the co-host starts at 26:59
Described on air as a new weekly idea, after TOC and Mel dived into their challenge progress last week, the plan is for whoever is co-hosting to bring a different aspect of the running challenges each week. Lyndell compares parkrun latitudes (hers is about 50km north of Roma; Mel is at Miles, near the turnaround), then covers her 2019 goal of joining the Pirate Club, achieved at Cormorant Bay alongside Tracy Wood after a two-year wait between her sixth and seventh C. Next up is the Stayin' Alive Club, she has her three Gs and needs one more B, which she intends to do in gold disco tights, though not in a Queensland summer. Mel promises to turn up in disco gear to welcome her in, and floats Redcliffe parkrun as an honorary bonus requirement since it was the home of the Bee Gees.
Sign-off starts at 39:58
The host thanked Lyndell for joining them on the pod again, saying it is always a party to have her around; Lyndell said she loves talking parkrun and that it is great to be part of the podcast. They then riffed on how a Get Smart episode would end, with the phone booth elevator and the closing doors from the title sequence, and finished by each giving their best "um" to prove they were real people rather than CGI.
