Welcome starts at 0:28
Ollie Spake hosting with Melissa Ellis, celebrating the Demons' AFL grand final win played over in Perth. Mel's 55th Ellis Palaceparkrun went red and blue with face paint and a crepe-paper banner, meat pies for lunch and a fluffy fledgling magpie at the waving corner; she is back at work doing rapid antigen testing at a supermarket distribution centre, including an accidentally accepted 4am shift, and says being out again has helped after missing parkrun's people. Ollie walked with Hannah, abandoned the Bass Point course to try to outrun a rain cloud and explored the new blocks around Shellharbour's soon-to-open marina, without chronicling it.
Streaky September starts at 6:32
The hosts mark the end of the September streaking challenge, Mel: "Streaky September has been a great distraction. I've really enjoyed seeing all the chronicles. And, yes, I am still streaking," and Ollie confirms his own streak run happened "first thing this morning." Show notes: "As we wave farewell to Streaky September." Ollie also flags outstanding Streaky September bingo challenges, chronicling, spelling and a flightless bird still to tick off.
Septober starts at 6:57
The follow-on challenge to Streaky September, introduced here as it ramps up: visiting (virtual / not parkrun) events in alphabetical order. Mel reports three in the bag, "Airlie Beach to visit Tim... Bunyaville to see Lyndell... and just today I popped over to Callaghan", with her own added rule that each must be an event she has never done and where she knows somebody. Ollie has "yet to visit A." Returned to, where Mel notes the alphabetical rule rules her out of helping Toolern Creek's numbers until she reaches T.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 9:01
Mel crosses over, "we've been lucky enough to get a couple more roving reports this week, Ollie, so perhaps we shall listen to those now." Two reports run back to back: Caveman Cam interviewing ultramarathoner and Shipwreck parkrun ED Phil Gore about his 51-hour, 342km Australian backyard-ultra record at Birdie's Backyard; then Tracy in Training at Logan River parkrun (Brisbane), explaining the Fibonacci Challenge and interviewing volunteers Sam and Kieran, 300-time local Michael Browning, and RD/ED Natasha. The hosts debrief all three of the week's reports.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 18:07
Mark Scarborough ("Marvellous Mark") reports in for the Channel 5 News Crew from West Beach parkrun, Adelaide, a one-kilometre stroll from the caravan park, an out-and-back course run mostly beside the Torrens River rather than along the beach, picturesque and fast. No interviews this week because of the wind. The travelling Scarborough family's progress south from central Australia is picked up again by the hosts.
Emails starts at 25:19
Listener correspondence, opened with the caveat "we don't per se have mail, Mel, but we have heard from a couple of our podcast family": Brian (last week's 500-milestone guest) passing on his thanks for the congratulations and support, and Bruce with a tip for not parkrun adventurers wanting to change their home parkrun without the update wait, "each time you log your knotty, you then swap your home parkrun straightaway, ready for the next day."
Dazza's starts at 27:37
The weekly listener check-in cafe, opened early this week to catch runners who had already done theirparkruns. Video contributors: Bernadette Bennett, Val Warwick, William Barlow, Sonja Pohlman, Mark Scarborough and Sam Schroder. Written posts read out from Christine Imbert (Maidstone in Kent), Pippa White, Janet Reid (lost phone at Lochiel Park), Greg Garner (Rocks Riverside), Louise Minty (Claisebrook Cove, Matt's 50th), Val Warwick (Devonport), Tracy Wood (Logan River red bridge), Caveman Cam, Richard, Peter Pohlman (Broadmeadows Street), Lynette Ann, Lynn from Cobram, Tony O'Connell (virtual Rockhampton), Karen Hamilton, Alison King (Rotorua, NZ), Chantal Hosking, Abigail's mum, and Ingrid Botha (zombie run).
Consolidated Club Report starts at 35:54
Mel's weekly Adventurers Club and not parkrun stats rundown: the Adventurers Club is up to 47 members (up one from last week), 15 members on the Consolidated Club Report and 24 not parkruns. Interim not parkrun table (results not final, as it is still Sunday): Wynneville top with 57, new second place Campbelltown with 46, Coonwarra third with 40, Shellharbour 27, Toolern Creek 4.
International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day starts at 37:38
Brief forward-look: the singlet design is still with "the elves" and "there should be an announcement imminent", listeners are pointed to the International Ugly Christmas Singlet or Shirt Day page. Followed by two other upcoming dates: International Podcast Day on Thursday 30 September (which the episode is timed for) and parkrun's 17th birthday on Saturday 2 October, the anniversary of the original Bushy parkrun launch.
Sign-off starts at 39:27
Ollie asked Mel whether she had any events orparkruns coming up; she invited listeners to suggest a theme for her next week as they were getting hard to think up, and Ollie proposed a parkrun-themedparkrun for parkrun's 17th birthday on 2 October - milestone top on, barcode remembered - which led both to say where they were keeping their parkrun wristbands while waiting for parkrun to return. Ollie then offered Mel a rest and listeners a chance to finish their long run; Mel said she needed to go to bed and Ollie needed to think up bingo challenge strategies, gave the Facebook and email contacts and signed off with "that's it for another week".
