Welcome starts at 0:23
Melissa Ellis and Ollie Spake, Ollie marking a birthday that is not an age-category one. He slept in and ran the altered Bass Pointparkrun through the dog park with his home parkrun set to Dandenong for the challenge; Mel's Ellis Palace theme was James Bond on a red carpet, suggested by Bruce, who also coined Septober. Mel then announces she is retiring the weekly Saturday themes, though she will keep running Ellis Palace every week.
Streaky September starts at 5:25
Wrap-up of the month-long Streaky September challenge. Mel completed the whole month and is still going, and praises the community's bingo challenges and the unofficial spin-offs in the Streaky September Facebook group. Ollie also made it to the end, and recounts his loose interpretation of the "flightless bird" bingo square (a grounded 747 he never reached, then cockatoos in a caged-off bush) plus his Pirate Club sailing of "eight seas".
Septober starts at 8:53
Hosts compare progress through the A-Z "Septober" alphabet not-parkrun challenge, coined by listener Bruce. Ollie has reached D (Dandenong) and E (East Richmond); Mel has done D (Darwin), E (Ecco Ripley), F (Fingal Bay) and G (Gawler), choosing events where she knows someone. Picked up again with plans for F, the X problem ("Xanadu parkrun"), and Nadine and Bruce's proposed group Z at Zillmere on 30 October.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 14:07
Ollie crosses to the roving reporters - "there are a number of our Channel 5 News crew that have been out on the road... they've recorded some roving reports". Three reports follow back to back: PK from The Avenues parkrun in Kuitpo Forest SA (interviewing Steve, the run/Event Director); Tracy Wood from Old Thomson River Road parkrun, Longreach QLD (interviewing RD Anthony, locals Danielle and Lindy, and course record holder Dan Prosser); and Mark Scarborough from Renmark parkrun SA (interviewing local Dave, visitor Tanya and RD Susie) on the last stop of a 20,000km lap of Australia.
Sausage Roll Report starts at 38:31
Cameron Drake's self-contained bakery review - "Welcome to the Sausage Roll Report, where we search this wide brown land for the best baked goods you can possibly get". This week: the award-winning sausage roll at the Denmark Bakery, WA, "worth the four and a half hour drive" (before he admits he was already down that way). Signs off promising to return next week: "the search is on".
Dazza's starts at 39:49
The weekly listener shout-outs, unusually busy because it fell on parkrun's 17th birthday. Contributions read from Alison King, Val Warwick (100th day of volunteering), Claire Stutchbury and Jack Corkill, Jane Luke, Mark Scarborough, Chris Fraser, Tracy Wood, Nadine Crawford, Ingrid Botha, Rebecca Bailey, Peter Pohlman, Bruce Purdy (RD in a suit as Sean Connery at Ballarat's third anniversary), Melanie McGregor, Cameron Drake, Sonja Pohlman, Erica Leota, Margie Lewis, Abigail's mum, Chris Wood, Melissa Taylor, Liesl Marie McElwraith, Greg Garner, Phil Olson, Tanya Bailey, Brett Bailey, Janet Reid, Lyndell Murray (back at an actual parkrun), Sam Schroder, Anne Fry and Pippa White.
International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day starts at 50:39
The 2021 Ugly Christmas Singlet design reveal, with Mel giving the insider commentary the show notes bill as "straight from the elves mouth". Return to traditional red/white/green; the platypus was the hinted character but the echidna was added purely because of feedback on the sneak peek; the mystery character is held over; a train along the bottom represents the children, with a pineapple in the second-to-last carriage (a pineapple appears on every incarnation) and a red balloon off the last carriage on the back; the snowman wears an Akubra and a koala ugly Christmas buff and holds a bell for the slogan "getting jingle with it"; a zooming rubber ducky in the frozen pond represents Mel and Ollie; and a park bench nods to the pandemic mental-health bingo challenge set by a listener who walked to her local park daily. Orders close 11 October.
Consolidated Club Report starts at 55:24
Adventurers Club update and weekly stats: the club is up to 53 members and has earned its red shirt, with 19 members on the Consolidated Club Report this week and 26 members having run or logged a nottie. Mel then reads theparkrun results table - Wyndham Vale top again with 65 attendees, Coonwarra second on 57 (a big jump), Inverloch third on 45, then Shellharbour on 22 and Toolern Creek on three.
Sign-off starts at 56:51
Ollie said he looked forward to moreparkrun tourism with no themes and asked what was on the horizon for Mel; she had planned her alphabetparkrun tour on pen and paper and had already completed H, while Ollie was making it up as he went but knew where his F would be. They noted Nadine and Bruce were planning the Z at Zillmere on 30 October and hoped adventurers would join them, and Mel asked whether Ollie would be streaking on his birthday, promising to get the pod out as a birthday present. Ollie gave the Facebook and email contacts and signed off, and Mel wished him happy birthday for Thursday.
