Cameron Storey
How parkrun came into his life (started aged eight in Manchester in 2011; his father set up Claisebrook Cove parkrun in Perth), co-run-directing at Perry Lakes before turning 18, joining Rodney to launch UWA parkrun, the concert stage left on the course, and his top three parkruns - Margaret River, Mundy Regional and Blue Gum Hills, plus Cieszyn in Poland as the most unique.
Rodney Glossop
How parkrun came into his life through mates at Canning River and running with his five children, founding Homestead parkrun near his home, getting UWA parkrun up in six weeks and setting a WA attendance record of 566 at launch, the college takeover events, weekly course maintenance, and his favourite parkruns - Margaret River, and Caroline Vandermeer's 500th at Homestead where he sang a re-worded Sweet Caroline.
Cameron Drake
Short on-stage Q&A at his Channel 5 News Crew press-pass presentation - a crowd vote on his nickname (Caveman Cam wins over charismatic Cam, field correspondent Cam and Q&A Cam) and where he would fly for a parkrun (Bushy, or Toolern Creek at Mel's suggestion).
Alison Fraser (King)
What inspired Runs with a Barcode (keeping New Zealand stats, then the book idea in January 2020 just before lockdown), when she started listening to the podcast despite being interviewed back around episode 26, and whether there could one day be a palm in New Zealand - she would "welcome that with open arms".
Sarah Jefferson
Thanks for the groundwork she did as the person on the spot getting palm23 to Western Australia; what motivated her to become a roving reporter (locked in the state for two years, spending Qantas points flying to Port Hedland, Karratha and Kununurra), and the east side versus West Side question.
Johan Duvenhage
Photography tips ("just take your phone and point it in the general direction"), highlights of his Australian trip - how parkrun is "totally different, but also exactly the same", how fast everyone is compared with South Africa, Coober Pedy, and being surprised by the UWA campus - and the idea of a palm in South Africa.

Welcome starts at 0:24
The palm23 live recording at the University Club after University of Western Australia parkrun, opening with an acknowledgement of the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation; Melissa Ellis (Wurundjeri Country) and Ollie Spake (Dharawal Country) host the sixth palm with about 67 in the room, roughly half on their first, and six originals who have been to every one. Thanks go to the UWA team, the University Club, organisers TOC, Sarah, Tracy and Sam, Power Audiovisual, the Office Lady and the Channel 5 News crew, before a potted history of the podcast since January 2016. Morning celebrations: Lynne's 250th in a university gown, a 25th, Caro's 350th, Alison Fraser completing all four 'University' parkruns, Phil second in about 16 minutes, and about 16 adventurers at a JOMO gathering at Varsity Lakes; Mel ran well while still returning from a foot injury and missed the koi pond, which Rodney showed Ollie on a guided lap.
Meet the ED starts at 13:00
Live interview with the two Co-Event Directors of the host event, University of Western Australia parkrun - Cameron Storey and Rodney Glossop. Covers how each found parkrun, the history and challenges of getting UWA parkrun launched (a WA state attendance record of 566 at launch, college takeovers, weekly course obstacles, a concert stage left on the course), and the standard top-three-parkruns question.
Palm Madness — Sarah Jefferson starts at 25:40
The annual live-meetup trivia quiz, returning for palm23. Nine parkrun questions written by Simon (Mackley) and delivered by TOC as quiz master ("Terrific TOC"), with Jackie keeping score and four contestants on noisemakers: Brendan Peel, Sarah Jefferson, Alison and Cameron Storey. Sarah won with three points and took the golden Buddha trophy engraved palm 2023; a higher/lower tiebreaker on Ollie's volunteer ratio (132%) gave Brendan second. Prizes included a parkrun visor and cap, a copy of Alison's book, Goodr sunglasses, an adventurers ladies singlet, Born to Run and On Every Saturday.
The Channel 5 News crew starts at 40:17
Official Press Pass presentation to roving reporters who had not yet received their badge and microphone, with a short Q&A for each: Cameron Drake, Alison King, Sarah Jefferson and Johan Duvenhage, inducted by the hosts with TOC helping. Closes with a group photo of the crew.
Sign-off starts at 50:10
At the live Palm 2023 recording, Ollie thanked the Channel 5 News crew and everyone who had made palm23 possible - the podcast team, the parkrun team and the adventurers community - then ran the where-next exchange: Mel said she was going to Margaret River, Ollie planned Shellharbour though he was not sure he was on the roster yet, and the crowd shouted out their own destinations. Mel said she could not guarantee when the episode would be released as she was in WA another week, asked that suggestions for next year's Palm go to Ollie, and closed with the email and socials.
Poem Zone starts at 54:14
Post-outro bonus track: the recording of the UWA parkrun run-brief poem delivered at the start line that morning, welcoming the adventurers, describing the course (Winthrop Hall, the koi pond, the peacocks at the New Fortune Theatre, two laps, Glossop Green start and finish) and thanking the volunteers and core team.
