Show notes
From the Facebook post
Nordic special days and a [potentially inaccurate collective noun] of launches had Mel's tongue in a twist but not before she surprised Peppertree (opens in a new tab) parkrun with a visit.
TOC, meanwhile, returned to what he loves best, supporting Nagambie Lake (opens in a new tab) in country Victoria. Lyndell was interviewing Mandalorians at Cleveland (opens in a new tab) parkrun, and Calum sang us a Mersey tune from Burnage (opens in a new tab).
We also have all the usuals with an extra helping of Rachel.

Field interview recorded at Peppertree parkrun on Mel's surprise visit: his own parkrun journey (226 runs, started at Wyndham Vale, moved to Bacchus Marsh via Toolern Creek), launching Peppertree three weeks before COVID, growing attendance (~47-48 runners), a course description (double out-and-back on granitic sand beside the Werribee River, ~12m elevation, part of the Lerderderg Track), event ambassador Tanya Baker, and the post-run cafe at Lola's.
Marita — Peppertree parkrun first-timer
What kept a registered parkrunner from turning up: nerves, being 'bigger in size', waiting for someone to come with her, not knowing what to do with keys and phone. She praises the First Timers Welcome and the volunteer roster listing a first-timer welcomer, says she will be back, and Mel plugs the junior parkrun she directs.
Roving reports
In this episode
Welcome starts at 0:23
TOC on Boon Wurrung Country and Melissa Ellis on Wurundjeri Country, calling it the tongue-twister or aurora episode: both saw Saturday night's aurora, Mel from the coast with her teenager by 7pm and again from her back doorstep, with Starlink satellites passing through, and photos coming in from as far as Yeppoon, Uluru and Europe. Feedback from last week's CCR from Erin Phillips (an adventurers shout-out from Eman at the Toowoomba Marathon) and Tim Robbins (number checking at Bushy juniors with V1000 wearer Nicky Clark). Roving reports from Lyndell and a new UK voice are coming, and Mel stayed local at Peppertree, letting ED Adrian Hillyer do the recap.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 24:20
Mel hands over to the week's two roving reports: Lyndell Murray at Cleveland parkrun's May the 4th themed 11th birthday (Redlands, Queensland), and Calum Burrell co-run directing Burnage parkrun on the River Mersey on Eurovision day. Mel notes that the show is sitting on a backlog and staggering reports, and that Calum is "a new voice to bring some UK flavour to our ears".
Dazza's starts at 56:17
Mother's Day themed prompt, "Did you parkrun with a mum today?" Contributions read out from Johan (Duvenhage) tail-walking with Levi at Inibos parkrun in South Africa, Ryan Stoddard reaching Tasmania, Andrea Booth at Milano Nord in Italy, Fiona Mullen at Jubilee (Tenterfield) NSW with Rex Gream and the Skinners, Helen Rutter at Puolarmaari in Finland, Georgina Devine in the rain at The Beaches, Christine Imbert at Vejen in Denmark, Bec Bailey surprising her mum at Pegasus parkrun in New Zealand, David Bravos at Cottesloe with Lucy and Raja, Andy Airey at Squerryes Winery, and Jan Yates at Eden Project.
the Obi Award — Lucy Bravos starts at 1:04:18
The Obilope is opened and the week's Obi goes to Lucy Bravos, for the photo from David Bravos's Dazza's post of her on the beach at Cottesloe with Raja in her adventurers top. TOC: "that is one of the cutest little photos I've seen forever... You just deserve to be our poster girl."
Club Corner starts at 1:04:56
Rachel's club rundown, this week on two unofficial clubs: the Rainbow Runner (Redcliffe and Redland Bay for red, Orange, Gainsborough Greens / Greenbank / GreenWay, Blue Gum Hills, with no yellow, indigo or violet available in Australia) and the Monarch (Prince of Wales, Kingscliff, Kingston Park, Queens Domain and Queen Elizabeth, Casino, still waiting on a princess). Ends with her usual reminder that all non-milestone clubs are unofficial and unsupported by parkrun. The hosts then compare their own tallies.
Consolidated Club Report starts at 1:08:09

Sign-off starts at 1:16:02
Mel said she was adventuring, jumping on a plane to Armidale to visit adventurers there - Rex Gream, Clancy and his partner Samantha - and asked if they would be home; Tony said it was Monday night and he had no idea where he was going, planning a short practice run on Friday night ahead of a big event and possibly chasing a P index somewhere close, but expecting to end up at Inverloch, with Mel predicting he would be tempted by a party and cake an hour or two from home. She thanked him for joining her, he said he had enjoyed their night of tongue twisting, and she closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
