The Compass Club (new adventurer club)
Mel announces a brand-new parkrun club she and Chris Timms invented on the Friday night before the Gold Coast Airport Marathon: run the easternmost, westernmost, northernmost and southernmost events in Australia (currently Kingscliff, Geographe Bay, Darwin, Hobart). Sits alongside the show's existing Statesmen/Peel Club/Southern Cross Circuit club talk, and the hosts invite listeners to suggest a name for members ("compassions").
Guest interview — Dani McLaren, Triple Seven Challenge
Point Cook parkrun Event Director Dani McLaren, interviewed the day after finishing seven marathons in seven days in seven states for Bravehearts (Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra, Kingscliff, Gold Coast). Covers motivation (child sexual assault awareness), back-to-back 100km training weeks, mental strength, her second year doing the 777, and slotting Kingscliff parkrun into the middle of the Kingscliff marathon leg.
Meet the ED / new-launch Event Director interview — Cobram parkrun
Lynne (Lynette) Hewsen, Event Director of the newly launched Cobram parkrun in northern Victoria, on launch-morning nerves, 132 participants and 11 volunteers, the bush-trail course through Quinn Island (koala sighting), how she found parkrun via Allan Connolly's Shepparton launch, and her ~50 parkruns including Launceston and Jells Park.
Social Adventurers
Hosts alternate reading listener posts: two adventurers converging on Bushy Park (Bea Brockman, Nicholas J. Sando), Jeanette Campbell at Cairns, Oscar the Hound at Portland, Tesla Fox at Altona Beach, Primal Boys Fitness at the Strathalbyn launch, a Cobram launch report, TJ at Frog Hollow, Mark Caldercourt "live from Cobb Vegas", Elaine and Gary Nisbet's Tribe Sports delivery, Sonja Pohlman's whale video from The Beaches, and Peter Pohlman at Highfields.
Launches and anniversaries ("Where is the cake?")
One launch this weekend at Wauchope, NSW (which the hosts spend a minute failing to pronounce and apologising for), then Mel cues the catchphrase at [00:38:32] "Where's the cake this week, Scotty?": Gatton turning three, Pittsworth two (80s theme), Bendigo (Gold Rush theme, with a running joke about Mel putting it in the wrong state), Dubbo turning one (long socks) and Phillip Island turning one (penguin theme).
parkrun adventure challenge — reverse freedom run
The hosts road-test last week's listener challenge (run a parkrun course as a freedom run, in reverse) and play both their own field recordings: Mel's pre-dawn head-torch group run backwards at Nambour with Ian, Alison, Dave, Tanya, Mark, Olga and others, and Scott's two attempts — a rain-soaked Coburg run with his mate Tim (which fails because Coburg is an out-and-back) and a successful Westerfolds run with ten "Westerfoldians". They then throw the challenge to listeners, asking for phone audio to parkrunadventurers@gmail.com, and plug the 133-member Strava club.
