Episode 123 - Penny Redhead
The August Freedom Run Challenge kicks off — one freedom run a week for the month of August, pitched as a lead-in to Streaky September. Scott has already done one at Diamond Creek; Mel, who had refused, relents and plans one in Melbourne. Listeners are asked to share on Strava/Instagram (#parkrunadventurers) and to email audio reviews of their freedom runs to parkrunadventurers@gmail.com.
Episode 121 - Mark Musk
Scott sets an August challenge for the adventurers off the back of his own non-training phase: one freedom run a week for the month of August, all 5K or under. Mel makes him make it attainable ([00:04:51] "One freedom run a week. That's what we'll do for the month of August"), and notes it dovetails with Streaky September coming up.
Episode 121 - Mark Musk
A second challenge, aimed at Western Australian listeners: work out the identity of the anonymous Facebook parkrunner "Lego Admiral Ackbar". Mel's own theories have been denied by the people she contacted; listeners with a theory are asked to get in touch or record audio, with the goal of getting the Admiral on the show.
Episode 80
"Streaky September Bingo" — five challenges set for listeners to check off during the month: (1) streak in your PJs, (2) streak a parkrun, (3) streak a freedom run, (4) post a streaky selfie (Facebook group, or #streakySeptember on Instagram/Twitter), (5) streak with a friend. The hosts debate whether doing four at once counts as cheating; Scott rules it does not but urges people to "spread out the fun". A pyjama-run idea floated at [00:07:12] is parked earlier in the episode and then revived here.
Episode 48
A festive challenge grown out of the hosts' Christmas-lights chat: listeners are asked to send in a photo of their Christmas lights done parkrun style. Scott: "So your adventure this week, send us your photo. Christmas lights, parkrun style." Mel proposes it as a "parkrun tree LED light competition" after Scott admits to wrapping cheap Kmart lights round a pole to make a parkrun tree.
Episode 40 - Shoes for Planet Earth
Follow-up on the Strava Art Contest announced the previous week. Winners Connie and Tina have asked for Club 50 and Club 100 certificates rather than personal prizes; costumes are being made. Notable mentions: Tim McKinley (fastest and most accurate effort, on an athletics track), Maxawa (longest, 24km with 647m of elevation), Melissa Taylor ("points and an honourable mention for badassery" for climbing into a local showground), and Allan Hoskins (8.2km with his dogs). Includes a listener audio clip from Ayela at Albert Melbourne, and Scott announces "we're going to do another one". Also at [00:52:03] Melissa Ellis is named as the winner of a separate Facebook competition.
Episode 26 - Double Anniversary
Scott announces there is a challenge for listeners but deliberately withholds it — the reveal is deferred a week ("you've got seven days of thinking of what our challenge is going to be"), with the hosts committing to attempt it themselves first. Only clues given: "It's to do with running... It's to do with parkrun."
Episode 24 - Rochelle Vaisanen
Follow-up on challenges set in earlier episodes: Brad Beer (Main Beach, challenged in episode 8 to run a parkrun slower than 25 minutes) reported back that he did it while pacing someone to a goal — "Adventure challenge completed"; and Brendan at Shell Harbour accepted last week's challenge to deliver his run briefing entirely in pirate voice, though no audio was captured. Leads into a new self-imposed challenge: Scott and Mel to record an entire podcast in pirate accents for International Talk Like a Pirate Day in September.
Episode 10 - Brad Beer
Scott sets the guest a personal 'parkrun adventure': "I want to set you a parkrun adventure, Brad... I want you to run a 25 minute parkrun" — i.e. slow down and meet the mid-pack. Brad accepts ("I'll accept the challenge, Scott and Mel") and promises to report back.
Episode 6 - Northern Territory
Scott sets a listener challenge off the back of the movie discussion: "This week's challenge, create your own running club based on your favorite movie." A short host-issued call to action rather than a produced segment.
Episode 1
Explicitly announced at [00:35:29] as "what we're going to try and introduce as a regular feature to our show. We're going to set you on a little parkrun adventure for you to take part in." The first challenge: introduce yourself to and thank your run director or event director on Saturday, high-five the volunteers, and post a photo with the hashtag parkrunadventurers. Matches the show notes line "Listeners are challenged to their very first 'parkrun adventure'".
