Welcome starts at 0:11
Melissa Erbacher and Scott Trickett back after a break, having holidayed together on Hamilton Island, where Mel ran Hamilton Island parkrun for the first time, calling it an enigma and a must-visit, and completed the Whitsunday double. Scott's wife Yvonne reached 100 parkruns there after false starts at Studley and Westerfolds through injury, running it with Mel and Kasia, and the group also hit the trails. A couple of weeks earlier Mel timekept at Maryborough's first anniversary, praising the inclusive community Andrew and Mel have built and the number of walkers still finishing at the back.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 7:22
Two crossovers back to back. Scott hands to PK for Strathalbyn parkrun in South Australia (interviews with Rhys, Peter Sandery, Finn and ED James Clegg at the Jack's Cafe after-party); Melissa then hands to Dave D'Alessio for Sydney's inaugural Longest Run across seven parkruns.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 11:41
FIRST APPEARANCE of the roving-reporter crew concept. Immediately after PK's report Scott says "We're going to start to assemble our own Channel 4 news team, and I think PK's already made the cut", and after Dave's report "Also making a strong case to be added to the Channel 4 News team. Great first up effort." Note the show calls it the Channel FOUR news team here, an Anchorman reference, and it is not yet a delivered segment, just the germ of the idea; the name settles as Channel 5 News Crew later.
Meet the ED starts at 41:55
Scott opens "It's time to catch up with another Event Director from one of our events around Australia. We're visiting out to Rhodes." Hamish Campbell on the Rhodes course through Bicentennial Park and Sydney Olympic Park, the repeated re-routes caused by bridge closures ("bridges were going to be Rhodes' kryptonite"), 67 events in, hosting the Run Beyond Project girls, and Jess Trengove's visit.
The Compass Club starts at 50:16new tourist club
Melissa: "Congrats also to Brendan Peel who recently became a navigator joining the Compass Club when he ran Kingscliff parkrun two weeks ago." Part of a short round-up that also congratulates the Run Beyond Project girls on the M7 West Link Blacktown Running Festival 10k and New Farm parkrun on its 250th event.
Social Adventurers starts at 50:40
Scott: "Social media blew up for us while we were away, and we loved it... So many posts and photos that we're not going to run through all of them, but just to say we love them all and keep them coming. Instagram went crazy over the weekend in particular." A deliberately abbreviated read after the fortnight's break.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 51:04"Where is the cake?"
One launch, Chelsea Bicentennial in Melbourne's south-east, which Scott hopes will "fill this big black hole we've got in Melbourne, southeast". Melissa then asks "And where's the cake this week, Scotty?": third anniversary for Blackbutt (NSW), plus Claisebrook Cove (WA) and Victor Harbor (SA), the latter two running Olympic-themed events to coincide with the Rio opening ceremony.
Sign-off starts at 52:26
Coming out of the anniversaries, Scotty said the Olympic-themed events were good for them because they were going Rio crazy next week, and Mel thanked him for joining her again after their two weeks off, saying she had missed him. They joked about the break, with Mel saying she could have had another week and Scotty proposing they take one every 29 weeks.
