Podcasting and running: the three strands of Tell Me Your Tales (long-form elite/sub-elite runner conversations, the Road to Berlin marathon-buildup series with Julian Spence and Brad Croker, and local community profiles); the pressure of publicly documenting a marathon build; gender balance in guest booking; the technology and workload of making a podcast; and getting Echuca Moama parkrun started — its 230-strong launch, alphabet-club tourists chasing the letter E, and why he volunteers there rather than racing it.
Roving reports
In this episode
Channel 5 News Crew
Dave Moss's roving insert from the inaugural Port Lincoln parkrun in South Australia: interview with Event Director Pauline about the foreshore course and why she started the event, plus vox pops from Sue (first-timer) and Roz, who drove seven hours from Mount Barker for the launch. Mel signs it off at [00:41:15] "Thanks once again to Dave, our Channel 5 News crew member", and Scott notes at [00:41:33] that "Dave is still without a nickname".
Launches and anniversaries ("Where is the cake?")
Weekend calendar: launches at Inverell and Wagga (both NSW — Scott notes it will be called Wagga parkrun rather than Wagga Wagga because "the locals just call it Wagga"). Anniversaries with cake at Blue Gum Hills (NSW), Broadbeach Waters, Capalaba, Warner Lakes and Warwick (all Queensland), and Lochiel Park (SA). The Newport Lakes (Vic) launch is also discussed earlier at [00:04:05], attended by Scott's family without him.
Streaky September
Scott and Mel launch #streakyseptember ("all one word, all lowercase") and invent the rules live on air: run or walk a minimum of 2km every single day of September, starting Friday 1 September; at least one freedom run; weekly bonus-point challenges on an honour system, one of which Mel proposes should be "2K in your pyjamas". Scott has already created a Strava group; Mel says a Facebook event is needed. Both admit motivation will be the hard part — Mel is not yet back to running after her baby and plans to walk it, pushing the pram. They also flag a run-breakdown segment for next week's pod and tease an unannounced competition later in the month.
