After over 2 years of parkrun podcasts we finally catch-up with uber adventurer Paul Freyne, fresh from celebrating his 400th different event at parkrun Кузьминки.

The parkrun adventurers are intercontinental this week! To celebrate, we speak to uber-adventurer Paul Freyne about some of the highlights he’s had on his way to 400+ different parkruns. And we have roving reports from Channel 5 News Crew regulars Grete and TOC who were on the ground at the Goolwa (opens in a new tab) parkrun and Ocean Grove (opens in a new tab) parkrun launches respectively.

Melissa Erbacher recording from New York and Scott Trickett from Melbourne. Mel drove with Adam and Wes to Washington, D.C. for Roosevelt Island parkrun, run on a brand-new plan C course, where she ran the whole way and finished ahead of Adam for the first time; Scott attended the launch of Goolwa parkrun in South Australia, one of seven launches in a weekend, then did freedom runs with PK at Strathalbyn, Mount Barker and Cleland, complete with kangaroos and echidnas.

Two roving launch reports back to back, both flagged as Channel 5 News Crew: TOC at the Ocean Grove parkrun launch in Victoria (interviewing Claire from the Medibank Free + Active crew and Yvette, who started the event), then Greta at the Goolwa parkrun launch in South Australia (interviewing Sputnik, Tim, Jill and Julie from Victor Harbor, Justin, Jo and Louise from the Mount Barker crew, Kane, event ambassador James, and Run Director Paul). Mel closes it with "Massive thanks to Greta and TOC... As always, awesome effort from the Channel 5 News crew."
Astronaut club starts at 1:03:5217-launch tourist club
Prompted by a Facebook message from listener Nicole Sanday, who was heading to the Gainsborough Greens launch for her 15th launch, the hosts count their own parkrun launches. Scott has 16 and is "one off an astronaut"; Mel explains the astronaut club is an unofficial Adventurer Club requiring 17 launches, and guesses the number comes from the 17 Apollo missions after visiting the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Mel has been to ten launches (nine in Australia, one overseas).

Weekly launch and anniversary rundown, read alternately by Scott and Mel. One launch this weekend, Nulkaba in New South Wales, the 13th event in the Region of Runners, down from seven the previous weekend. Anniversaries: Applecross (WA), Batemans Bay (NSW), Cleveland (QLD), Echuca-Moama (VIC), Ginninderra (ACT), Queanbeyan (NSW) and Rhodes (NSW).

Scott said Mel had challenges getting to a parkrun that weekend and they would not spoil it but find out next week, and that he had challenges too - juggling airport pickups and an international flight - so he might not make a parkrun at all. They joked about a New Yorker who had given up trying to understand Scott's accent and about the T-shirts Mel had been seeing, and trailed episode 111 as American T-shirt culture, the NFL draft, and maybe some parkrun talk if there was time.
