Welcome starts at 0:07
Melissa Erbacher and Scott Trickett skip straight from 112 to 114, episode 113 having been cursed by two failed attempts to land guests. Mel did Darwin parkrun, with Mark minding Wes so she and Adam could both run in the humidity, and is now in cold, wet Melbourne with Scotty for a La Trobe University and Australian Sports Commission conference on a draft physical literacy framework. Westerfolds juniors launched with 146 participants: Scott froze a little at the volunteer briefing, got emotional at the warm-up, the roster is full for next week, and Kasia ran the 2k on her own in ten-something minutes and loved it.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 37:40
TOC (Tony O'Connell) files a Channel 5 News Crew report from Highlands parkrun's fifth birthday, run on a Hawaii theme, leis, grass skirts, Hawaiian shirts. He walks the three-lap lakeside course with Rowan, the parkrun ambassador for the area, then interviews finish-line volunteers Sue and John, who each clocked over 100 volunteer credits in the past year. Includes a running gag about course landmarks named after visitors: the "Trickett Bridge" at Shellharbour and a "TOC turn" now up on the wall at Highlands. Scott closes the crossover.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 52:15"Where is the cake?"
Scott introduces it as "a little segment that we do and we've been doing since Episode 1". One launch: Burnie parkrun in Tasmania. Anniversaries: Ballarat (Vic), one unnamed Queensland event, Bowen (Qld), Canning River (WA), Narrabri (NSW), Sandon Point (NSW) and West Beach (SA). Prompts a side-riff about Scott never having been to Tasmania or the Northern Territory.
Sign-off starts at 53:56
Asked where they were heading, Mel said she would be on Sunshine Coast turf but would not say where until next week, and Scott said he had a hot weekend and a night away planned with his wife that might be near another parkrun and might get him another event. Scott then wrapped up episode 114, which he called their 113th episode of the parkrun adventurers series, noting they were recording past midnight on the day of release, and Mel signed off saying they were devolving into chaos and nothing good ever happens after midnight.
