Welcome starts at 0:19
Melissa Erbacher is joined by Channel 5 news crew reporter Melissa Ellis as co-host. Mel Ellis went back to Point Cook for its Craigs Day volunteer theme after a Birdsland trip fell through, and her NENDY is now Meningie in South Australia with Victoria quiet on launches until Berwick Waters in November; Mel Erbacher completed the Sunshine Coast's unofficial Pineapple Club at Glass House Mountains Conservation parkrun, finishing 35th of 36 with the Mannings before visiting her Nana. They revisit how Mel Ellis joined the pod through early challenges, a freedom run at Jells Park and a reverse course at Portland, before her first roving report at the Lakes Entrance launch.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 12:20
Five back-to-back roving reports, the episode's centrepiece (hence the title "Roving, Roving, Roving"): Mark Scarborough at Ginninderra parkrun, Canberra (event 381, last parkrun of winter, interviews Will Barlow on his 250th and Run Director Debbie about the course change off the road to an out-and-back); Grette Wilkinson at Strathalbyn parkrun, SA (Co-Event Director Mel, then "the two travelling grannies", Robin from Main Beach and her cousin Helen, chasing alphabeteer and all-states milestones); Paul Kitching at Lochiel parkrun, Adelaide, for its fourth birthday in fluoro (Event Director Janet, cupcakes, a second-timer called Polly who came back after Bring a Friend Day); Lyndell Murray at parkrun Milano Nord, Italy (Battista on the gate, Irish tourists Trish and Trevor from Lough Key parkrun, and Event Director Max, who set a new Italian national record of 230 finishers); and David Moss at Harcourt Hill parkrun, Oxford (Catherine Daly and Mark Taylor, on the parkrun PROVE project and MS, the Copenhagen/Malmo New Year's Day double, and a parkrun alphabet finished at Zielona Gora). Erbacher and Ellis recap all five, and Erbacher apologises for having missed Mark's Ginninderra report out of the previous week's episode.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 53:14"Where is the cake?"
The slot runs but is empty: "Now, Melissa, there are no launches this week." It becomes a running gag about Victoria's dry spell, Ellis noted earlier "We haven't had a lot of launches in Victoria... I don't think we've had one since April", and a Victoria-versus-Queensland exchange about the "formerly known as the greatest state", which segues into a count of where the roving reporters live (two Queensland, three Victoria, two South Australia, still none in WA).
Streaky September starts at 56:03
Erbacher (10 days into her streak) and Ellis compare notes, then Erbacher reads out the full Streaky September Bingoe card for the year: the gnome-selfie bonus (inspired by Kirk, the resident gnome at Broken Hill Racecourse parkrun), tie or tutu, with a pooch (or, failing that, with a pineapple), barefoot, with a friend, with someone new, Streaky Strava Art, unusual letterbox, and a parkrun adventure. TOC is teased for posting a gnome-less gnome selfie and Errol thanked for sending gnome photos. Ellis reports her own "swoopy September", she has been feeding magpies all year and made her house ground zero for swooping.
Sign-off starts at 1:09:03
The host said 10 days of Streaky September were down and 20 to go, then asked before they headed off where they were each going next week: her guest co-host Mel was flying to Singapore with parkrun friends for her first overseas parkrun and first flag, at Bishan parkrun; the host was going to Ocean View parkrun, another trail event and her new nendy, where a champagne breakfast was on offer. She wrapped up saying they had probably talked everybody's ears off, thanked Mel for coming on, said it was good to have another female voice even if she was from Victoria, wished her an amazing time in Singapore and thanked her for her contributions to the podcast over the years, joking that the Channel 5 News crew had made it hard for her to join only because they knew she would rise to it and there were no more levels left for her to reach.
