Welcome starts at 0:24
Melissa Erbacher hosting with roving reporter Grette Wilkinson of Mount Barker as guest co-host. Mel tail walked Ocean View parkrun in Queensland, run through the vines of a working winery, with Emmett in the carrier and Adam pushing Wes in the pram, meeting co-EDs Adrienne and Kelly, marshal Charlotte, Craig and Thomas from Rocks Riverside and the Murrell family, and celebrating with bubbles at the champagne breakfast afterwards; Grette took the family to hilly Cleland parkrun in the Adelaide Hills, where daughter Jess ran a course PB despite her misgivings.
Meet the ED starts at 9:27
Stanthorpe parkrun Co-Event Directors Jen Morgan and Glen Brunckhorst on the September 2019 Stanthorpe bushfires and drought: the event was cancelled late on Friday night (only its third cancellation in 249 events), Jen evacuated her own home at 4:30pm with sprinklers running, and the parkrun kit was destroyed when the Run Director's shed burned down. Also the town's water crisis, Warwick parkrun sending donated goods, an appeal for parkrun tourists to come and spend money in town, the flat two-loop course along Quart Pot Creek, and both EDs' personal parkrun stories. The event is on 249 and hits 250 the following week.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 28:08
Four roving reports back to back: Sarah and Rita from Highlands parkrun at Phillip Island parkrun (debut report, interviewing Westerfolds visitors, a trio of touring friends and RD Robyn, ahead of the inaugural Phillip Island Running Festival); Mark at North Sydney parkrun's 70th event on Blackmores Sydney Running Festival weekend (interviewing Queenstown NZ Run Directors Chris and Jamie, UK visitor Michael from Uckfield, and ED Matt); Gary at Windsor Precinct parkrun in Launceston (RDs Mel and Dean, the propeller hat movement, and 77-time Barcode Scanner Wayne); and Melissa Ellis from West Coast parkrun in Singapore after haze nearly caused cancellations.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 47:37
Hosts recap the week's roving reports, welcoming Sarah and Rita's debut, the Sydney Running Festival, Queenstown as one of only about six Q parkruns in the world and the alphabet challenge, Dean and Gary's propeller hat movement, Wayne's volunteering, and Melissa Ellis getting her Singaporean flag.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 51:35"Where is the cake?"
One launch this week: Kingston Park in Tasmania, a little south of Hobart. Stanthorpe parkrun's 250th event, falling the same weekend, is flagged earlier in the episode.
Streaky September starts at 52:06
Streak check-in at day 16. Grette is exercising every day but not always running or walking; Mel's streak is intact and she is playing "streaky bingo", having ticked off a barefoot run and a gnome selfie. Shout-out to Heather, streaking along and admitted to the Pirate Club on Saturday after sailing her seventh C, dressed as a pirate. Also a parkrun wedding shout-out for Will and Lou Gardner at Newy parkrun, and a happy-birthday shout-out to TOC.
Sign-off starts at 56:03
Mel wished a happy birthday to their mate TOC, who was celebrating on the day they recorded, then said the episode had come to an end very quickly and asked Greta where she was heading on parkrun day. Greta was staying home at Mount Barker to run direct rather than run, resting for the 56km Yurrebilla Trail run through the Adelaide Hills on the Sunday, her fourth of five ultras in the South Australian 550s series, with the Heysen run in late October to come. Mel was going to Queen Elizabeth parkrun at Casino in northern New South Wales for her Q, an overnight trip taking in some sights and spending tourist dollars in a drought- and fire-affected area, with a secret challenge she said listeners would have to wait for episode 175 to hear about. She thanked Greta for joining her and Greta said she looked forward to doing it again.
