Welcome starts at 0:21
A bonus episode for International Podcast Day, with Mel Erbacher solo on her back deck on the Sunshine Coast, reading the history of the day from the internationalpodcastday.com website (started by Steve Lee in 2013, rebranded from National Podcast Day) and framing episode 176 as an extra pod for the week.
Top Threes starts at 2:56
The show's recurring "top three" question, given a whole bonus episode of its own for International Podcast Day. Erbacher frames it: "we are filling the pod with something we love a lot here, our top threes. But these aren't the regular top threes that we have asked people about over the years", i.e. an established interview feature, here repurposed so the crew give parkrun tips rather than answering the usual question. Erbacher closes with her own self-indulgent top three tips for creating a podcast: say yes when "some crazy guy you barely know asks you to start a podcast", open your ears to contributions from creative people, and have fun.
The Channel 5 News crew starts at 3:07
The entire special episode is a Channel 5 News Crew showcase. Erbacher introduces it as "a random array of top three tips about parkrun as created by our Channel 5 News crew", and credits the eight-member crew with 1,580 parkruns across 13 countries and 540 volunteer occasions between them. Seven crew members then deliver a top-three each, back to back with no studio interruption: PK on being a parkrun first-timer, TOC on costume themes, Melissa Ellis on recording a roving report, Mark Scarborough on getting a good parkrun photo, Dave Moss on touristing logistics, Greta on celebrating anniversaries, Gary Murphy on aviation-themed parkruns, and Lyndell Murray on adventuring. Erbacher hands over "without further ado, I give you the parkrun adventurers Channel 5 News Crew" and recaps each of them.
Sign-off starts at 27:56
In this International Podcast Day bonus episode the host closed by thanking the Channel 5 News crew for their top-three segments and going through each in turn, PK's tips for newbies and his singing, TOC on the colours of tutus, Mel on submitting roving reports (with the parkrunadventurers gmail address), Mark on getting a good photo, Dave on adventuring, Greta on celebrating anniversaries, Gary on aviation parkruns and Lyndell rounding it out with more adventuring tips, joking that Lyndell did not know how to count to three. She then gave her own self-indulgent top three tips for creating a podcast: say yes if some crazy guy you barely know asks you to start one; open your heart and ears to contributions from other creative and quirky people who share your passion; and have fun, because if you do not love the topic and laugh loud and often, maybe do not create a podcast. She hoped listeners had enjoyed their extra dose of parkrun adventurers and wished them a happy International Podcast Day.
