Welcome starts at 0:25
Melissa Erbacher with Paul Kitching, recording on a warm Tuesday night in Adelaide with U2 audible from Adelaide Oval and Kiss having cancelled. PK toured West Beach (his 146th parkrun, eyeing 150 in December) and filed mini roving chats with Ian from Kettering, England, visiting his son Alex a year after his first parkrun there, and with RD Greg, before a grumble about people talking through the briefing and the UK's quiet-please paddles; Mel run directed Kawana for Katie's 25-volunteer milestone and Dave's 100th volunteer, confessing that her Martha Stewart chocolate cake came out like a frisbee so Katie's mum Kerry's cake saved the day, and she quietly ticked off another New Year's resolution.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 14:06
The block of four roving reports from the crew, opened by Tony O'Connell signing on explicitly for Channel 5: TOC at Goldfields Reservoir parkrun (Maryborough, Victoria, event four) interviewing founding ED Belinda; Lyndell Murray in full pirate character as "Lyndell Scarface Runnerlegs, Chief Deck Scrubber" at Cormorant Bay parkrun (Lake Wivenhoe, an hour west of Brisbane) for her seventh C and Pirate Club entry, interviewing RD Charmaine and two young parkrunners; Melissa Ellis at Euroa parkrun in central Victoria after Benalla was cancelled, interviewing co-ED Ellie; and Greta at Lower Hutt parkrun, Wellington, her first international parkrun, interviewing Timekeeper Margaret, parkrunner Sandy and ED Mark on the event's 400th running.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 41:25
Hosts' crossover discussion recapping the four reports: reservoir parkruns and Mel's spontaneous "Reservoir Dogs" unofficial club idea; Lyndell's pirate accent and the Cormorant Bay female record holder being one Catherine Swords at a Pirate Club event; Gary Murphy also joining the Pirate Club at Castlemaine; Melissa Ellis's diversion to Euroa and the butter factory turnaround; Greta's first international parkrun and PK's own first international (Bushy, 2015, where he interviewed Paul Sinton-Hewitt). Also a status check on Cameron, who has again failed to file his roving report challenge.
International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day starts at 53:10
Reminder that the inaugural official International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day is Saturday 21 December, with a parkrun adventurers Facebook event set up. Singlets are in production (dye sublimation, cut and sewn); shipping starts 4 December, with a Facebook post covering international and local delivery dates. Participants confirmed in the UK, Germany, New Zealand and Australia.
parkrun the Musical starts at 57:26
The episode's titular riff. PK, deep in his youngest child's school production week, floats the idea of parkrun the Musical or a running musical, citing Shane Warne the Musical (Eddie Perfect), Come From Away and Beetlejuice as proof that any premise can work. He sings an improvised "Don't you forget your barcode"; Mel suggests a jukebox-musical approach in the manner of Mamma Mia and calls it "a runaway hit". They agree to put a poll on the Facebook page asking listeners for song ideas.
Sign-off starts at 1:00:40
The host said she was excited about the parkrun the Musical poll going up on the Facebook page and thanked PK for coming back to join her on the pod; PK said he loved being a small part of the parkrun community and thanked her for letting him be part of it, despite having randomly burst into song. They finished with a shout-out to Mark Scarborough for his first Run Director spot on the weekend and a congratulations to Nicole on her PB, and joked about people having given roving reporters a microphone at all.
