Scott Watkins
Guest co-host for Mel's 200th episode as presenter. Mel questions him through a sustained block (roughly 00:19:16-00:32:15) on life under Melbourne's stage-four lockdown, the 8pm curfew, the 5km radius and one-hour exercise limit, the psychological toll of going back into restrictions, friends living alone in small city apartments, then on Victoria's outsized uptake of not parkrun, on running in a mask (why he does it, surgical vs cotton, fit), and on his Seoul Flyers running club in South Korea. He also co-presents the Streaky Bingoe card reveal.
In this episode
Streaky September starts at 0:24
The episode's spine, the show's annual streaking challenge (minimum 2km of movement every day of September), opening the episode with "Streaky September is here" and running through it. Explicitly its "fourth year running"; hosts discuss the Facebook group, day-one streaks (Mel a 2.5km "blocky" with her family in pineapple tights and 2019 Ugly Christmas Singlet; Scott a lap of Albert Park lake counting cygnets), the honour-system, no-logging-required format, and its accessibility for people in lockdown or coming back from injury.
Streaky Bingo starts at 32:52
The annual bingo-card reveal within Streaky September, spelled "BINGOE" for reasons the hosts say date back to its first year. Ten challenges announced for 2020, most of them new: (1) Streaky Strava Heart, (2) do aparkrun, (3) streak in your jim jams, (4) DFYB, don't forget your barcode, (5) a bird picture, (6) do one with a friend (the only challenge to appear every year), (7) "Sign Me Up", spell messages from photographed street signs, (8) streak art (Spoonvilles, painted rocks, chalk rainbows, graffiti), (9) streaking with a podcast, (10) fancy masquerade. Thanks given to Joanne Watkins, the Channel 5 News Crew and Scott Watkins for brainstorming the card.
Sign-off starts at 52:12
Scott said that probably brought them to the end of the podcast, thanked Mel for the invite and for letting him share her 200th episode, and asked about the seven episodes she had missed - the week Wesley was born, four consecutive weeks when Emmett was born, and the two recently co-hosted by Mel and Ollie. Mel then reminded listeners that International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day 2020 is the third Saturday of December, with the design to be released before the end of the month, before thanking Scott, who told everyone to take care, keep doing the right thing and look after themselves and those around them.
International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day starts at 53:44
End-of-episode plug rather than a full segment: Mel announces that International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day for 2020 is the third Saturday of December, that the design will be released before the end of September, and hints the 2020 range goes beyond singlets. Scott says he has bought and worn both previous ugly singlets.
