Dan Buckley
The return of parkrun in England after 16 months. Dan volunteered at Leazes parkrun's return that morning (event 30, about 63 finishers against a pre-pause average of 155, only three first-timers - two of whom drove three and a half hours down from Scotland). Also covers the parkrun app for barcode scanning, the three-lap Leazes Park course, run directing at Town Moor junior parkrun and its hoped-for early-August return, how he found parkrun through Rachel McCracken and did his first ever parkrun at Berwick Springs in Australia (where he met Mel), his 170 parkruns across five countries, and his top three: Berwick Springs, Druridge Bay and Fountains Abbey.
Roving reports
In this episode
Welcome starts at 0:23
Melissa Ellis with Ollie Spake, both still in lockdown. Ollie ran a triple-distance ugly-festiveparkrun on Saturday out to Rebecca's bridge with 'time' written on it, then a windy Bass Pointparkrun on Sunday that just missed a post-COVID PB; Mel gave Ellis Palace a Wiggles theme with a yellow skivvy, a Dorothy the Dinosaur sun hat and roses for Daryl, and fruit salad for brunch. They thank Danny, Nicola and With Me Now for the live on England's return, note Máxima parkrun's surprise return in the Netherlands and Henderson Lake, River Valley and Saint-Paulin in Canada, and introduce Mel's interview with a returning English parkrunner.
Emails starts at 23:50
"You've got mail" - the hosts read an email from regular correspondent Eman, who did a couple of RD duties at South Toowoomba then travelled to Brisbane with the Green Streets and ran Underwood parkrun in his Ugly Christmas in July singlet, finishing first by 41 seconds. Ollie checks his stats live on air.
Dazza's starts at 25:56

Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 44:17
The roving reports block, two of whose reporters explicitly file "for the Channel 5 News crew": Alison Fraser from Taupo parkrun in New Zealand (wet and windy; completes her P-Index of 5), David/Dave from Graham Andrews parkrun at Charleville in outback Queensland, Tracey Wood from Kedron in Brisbane, and Mark Scarborough from Mount Clarence parkrun in Albany, WA. The hosts note the Charleville and Taupo reports were held over from the previous week.
parkrun Park Patrol starts at 57:12
Tracey Wood's course-check bit, announced as "parkrun Park Patrol, formerly known as Event Day Course Check". This week she also takes up a challenge the hosts set her the previous week - to interview a person doing every one of the 27 distinct parkrun volunteer roles, which she estimates will take about a year. She ticks off Marshal by interviewing Jacob and Mike at Kedron, then talks to Run Director Cherie.
the Informant starts at 1:09:40
Weekly stats in character, opening with a riff on being made to watch Mother and Son on ABC iView ("It was like a documentary about beige trousers"). 1,014 events across 12 countries with the UK back at 525; four launches (Ecco Ripley QLD, Ulitsa Golubaya Russia, Chilton Fields UK, Danny E Park USA); 129,177 runners worldwide, up almost 95,000 on last week; 17 people called bingo, quickest Anna Reid on 162 events; three new States peoples; Dave Blakey the biggest mover and Scott Trickett named as the biggest faller on the most-events list.
Sign-off starts at 1:17:48
Ollie said it was possibly another week ofparkrun for the two of them and asked what the plans were for the coming parkrun day. Mel, recording on the evening of Monday the 26th of July, was waiting on the Premier's announcement the next morning; she did not expect parkrun to return in Victoria that Saturday but was eagerly awaiting how many people she could run with and how far the kilometre limit would be expanded, as she had keen tourists waiting for their chance at Ellis Palace parkrun. Ollie expected more Bass Pointparkruns in some adapted, Olympic-themed fashion with his household's home Olympics under way, and Mel suggested a Bass Point juniorparkrun with Ava and Zali doing gymnastics ribbons. After talking up Shellharbour's two Olympians, former and current course record holders Jess Hull and Jye Edwards, both targeting the 1500 metres, Ollie said that rather than keep talking about Shellharbour they should probably wrap up, gave the Facebook and email contact details - especially for anyone with bingo-creating talents or ideas, or anyone at the Olympics - and closed for another week.
