Welcome starts at 0:24
Episode 333 with Simon Mackley on Quandamooka Country and Melissa Ellis on Wurundjeri Country, both cold. Simon's planned parkrun for 444 fell through after a medical emergency at home; Mel flew to Wollongong to visit Chris and Kerry Fraser, walked Bundeena to Marley Head and Bald Hill Lookout, ran Sandon Point event 461 with 206 finishers, met Darwin the parakeet with Karen, Ralph and Kayleigh, and brunched with Sam, Luke, Michael Gentle and Shellharbour's new RD Bailey before flying home via the Sea Cliff Bridge and Cronulla. They then turn to coronation weekend crowns and tiaras and the Office Lady's blessing of 'swather' as adventurer lexicon.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 6:44"Where is the cake?"
Simon's weekly milestone rundown: Australian events 26 and 27, Cleveland (QLD) and Curl Curl (NSW), both turned 10; event 302, Nulkaba in the Hunter Valley, turned 5; and event 443, Elliott Heads Beach, turned 1. He notes how few events launched in the four years after 2018 because of COVID, then gives the global week: 450 events, 53,415 participants including volunteers, and almost 2,500 first-timers. The week's two actual launches are announced later, inside the Consolidated Club Report: Parkindula Reserve (SA, near Mount Barker, 108 finishers) and O'Connors Beach (St Helens, Tasmania, 117).
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 8:33
Melissa hands over to three banked roving reports as the show continues clearing its backlog: Lyndell at Naracoorte Lake, Alison at Ekebergsletta in Oslo, and PK at Edithburgh. Simon and Melissa recap all three, correcting Norway's "course record" to an attendance record set on Ascension Day.
Dazza's starts at 24:12
No full Dazza's this week, only notable mentions pulled out by Simon: Catherine Green Street catching the bridge raised at Whangarei; Susan Roddick with four or five parkrunners in adventurers shirts; Tanya Bailey, who dressed Brunner as a corgi; Jackie Hancock at Pegasus, where a Star Wars Day / tutu / coronation triple-up saw her hand out tokens as R2-D2; and Holly Pleasance with the Corgi Butt Buns from the Corgi Cafe near Ashgrove in Brisbane, the item that gives the episode its title.
Club Corner starts at 28:49
Rachel's "special edition", a Eurovision preview rather than a parkrun club report, recorded from Arrernte Country. She runs through the UK, Spain, Norway and France entries, then predicts a top three of Ukraine ("Heart of Steel"), Finland ("Cha Cha Cha") and Sweden's Loreen, closing with her standard sign-off that in parkrun life all non-milestone clubs are unofficial and unsupported by parkrun. Simon and Melissa defer judgement to Ollie next week.
Emails starts at 31:37
Two emails. First, the final instalment of the Jacksons' World Tour from Stephen and Jen of Bathurst: Delaware and Raritan Canal parkrun in New Jersey (a cabbie touting for parkrunners outside the station, first and second finishers, seven parkruns and four volunteers on the tour), then a wrap-up covering Isle of Wight junior parkrun, Norway, the naked spa session before Amsterdamse Bos, the adventurers team code, and a Michael Jackson customs joke. Second, Russell Johnson's three-kings run: King George V (St George, Queensland), King George VI / Bertie (Albert), and Charleston, South Australia on Coronation Day, complete with a "Long Live the King" shirt.
Consolidated Club Report starts at 40:55
Saturday 6 May 2023: of 417 members, 320 took part at 172 locations, 24 in the UK, five in South Africa, two in the USA and one each in Germany, Ireland and Italy; locally 38 events in NSW, 37 in Victoria, 31 in Queensland, 10 each in WA and SA, five on the North Island, three each in the ACT and Tasmania, one on the South Island. Also carries the week's two launches (Parkindula Reserve and O'Connors Beach), Melissa's year-to-date launch tally by state, and a stat supplied by the Informant that Victoria and NSW each have 104 open 5k parkruns.
the Frond — Sandon Point parkrun starts at 41:40
Largest frond of the week went to Sandon Point with seven adventurers, Melissa Ellis, Chris and Kerry Fraser, Michael Gentle, Sam and Luke Schroder, and Karen Hamilton. Runner-up was Shellharbour with six, which Simon put down to Melissa taking all the Shellharbour people to Sandon Point.
Sign-off starts at 45:44
Mel said Cam's Palm interviews would be dropped in after the finish music over the coming weeks, then asked stand-in co-host Simon his plans: he was in two minds between Redland Bay and somewhere near Jackson's soccer game, mindful of the tourist streak he had run since 1 January at Lota. Mel said she did not know either but had a strong feeling she would end up at Tallangatta Station for its third event. She thanked Simon warmly for stepping in for Ollie, wished him a week without medical emergencies, and signed off with the Facebook and email contacts.
