Welcome starts at 0:24
TOC on Bunurong Country and Melissa Ellis on Wurundjeri Country. TOC drove an 1800 km round trip to Victor Harbor parkrun on Ramindjeri Country for a V, a windy foreshore out-and-back with 69 finishers, noting Victor Harbor launched a month before Inverloch and the two teams swapped set-up notes. Mel drove to week two of the new Goulburn River Trail parkrun at Seymour on Taungurung Country, a gravel out-and-back past grapevines with 72 participants, where Sally Heppleston, Damon Young, Scott Wilson-Smith, Nicola Wright, Susan Kirk and Greg Moore were also adventuring, co-EDs Peter Nunn and Lucy Linton had their launch delayed two weeks by flooding, and the mosquitoes demand Aeroguard.
parkrun news bulletin starts at 7:19
TOC's news round-up: a reminder that events have until 11 December to declare Christmas and New Year's Day runs on the Christmas Compendium, and a plea not to badger event teams; parkrun passing 100 million participations worldwide; barcode number 9 million about 1,200 registrations away; UK storms cancelling more than 100 5K events and over 50 junior events in one weekend; TOC's challenge to listeners to log a nottie (Australian numbers down from about 120 to 89, with 1,086 worldwide still logging weekly); and the limited-edition parkrun picnic rugs that sold out at about $150.
Emails starts at 16:25
Melissa reads an email from Brett Bailey in New Zealand, replying to the previous week's discussion of nippers. He describes the Bailey family's long involvement with junior surf lifesaving in New Zealand, Bec and Nathan both qualifying as lifeguards, Tanya and Brett as junior surf coordinators, 100-plus children each Saturday. This leads into a discussion of TOC's own surf lifesaving involvement and Jackie's work with the Cape Paterson club's nippers.
Dazza's starts at 20:09
Listener shout-outs from 174 comments on the week's Dazza's post (themed as mega loaded fries). Featured: Brett Bailey at Pegasus with Nathan's 100th; Andrew Turner's 250th at Maribyrnong; Helen Patricia completing the Compass Challenge at East Coast Park, Singapore; M Nico RD-ing at Kirra; Helen Davis at Yowie with Cass Castleton's seventh alphabet; Tim Robbins at Hamilton Lake, New Zealand; Catherine Pirotta in an adventurers T-shirt at East Richmond; Jane Hassel's 250th at Lochiel; and Natalie Soper at Zamek w Malborku in Poland.
the Obi Award — Jane Hassel starts at 25:55
Melissa asks TOC to announce the Obi and he gives it to Jane Hassel, for her photo celebrating her 250th milestone, "I love the tutus. Lots of colour in front of that water tank at Loch Eel [Lochiel]. The mothership has come through again."
Consolidated Club Report starts at 26:34
Melissa reads the Adventurers Club stats for Saturday 4 November 2023: of 496 members, 378 took part in nine countries across 187 locations, 24 UK events, three each in South Africa and America, two in Singapore, one each in the Netherlands, Norway and Poland; locally 36 in NSW, 35 in Queensland, 34 in Victoria, 15 in SA, 12 in WA, 8 on the North Island, 6 in the ACT, 3 in Tasmania, 2 on the South Island and 1 in the Northern Territory. No adventurer PBs; milestones for Andrew Turner (250th), Renee Jackson (250th) and M Strong (50th).
the Frond — Passionistas at Shellharbour (largest local frond, nine members) starts at 27:44
Largest frond read inside the club report. Internationally, four adventurers at East Coast Park in Singapore, Helen and Andy Rudder, Brian Mankus and Sarah Langley. Locally, a frond of nine Passionistas at Shellharbour, with eight at Wyndham Vale (Andrew and James Reynolds, Renee Jackson, Daryl, John and Vicky Smith, Kevin Green and Donna Markwick).
Launches and anniversaries starts at 29:52"Where is the cake?"
Three launches: Fenit Greenway parkrun in County Kerry, Ireland (206 finishers, 21 volunteers; double out-and-back towards Tralee with views of Tralee Bay, Barrow Harbour and the Slieve Mish Mountains); Oosterplas parkrun in the Netherlands, carried over from the previous week and now into week two (91 finishers, 13 volunteers, two laps of the lake); and Fig Tree parkrun west of Durban, South Africa (344 finishers, 18 volunteers, single-lap farm trail with a stream crossing), whose course map TOC likens to "Mr. Squiggle sneezed while he was drawing a map".
Sign-off starts at 34:39
Mel said she had no adventure planned and was not leaving the state, so she would return to an event she had done and maybe work on her p-index, which she thought was seven, joking that people could invite her to a party or make her low-carb cupcakes; TOC said he had no idea either, but with middle son Daniel home chasing his 49th different event they would probably head into Gippsland and do one of the Latrobe Valley events, and they talked about where a 14th Gippsland event could fit. TOC explained he had meant to record a roving report but 45km/h winds at the finish line made it unusable, and Mel gave the Facebook and email contacts, thanked TOC for joining her and closed for another week.
