Welcome starts at 0:24
TOC on Boon Wurrung Country, recording on his birthday, and Melissa Ellis on Wurundjeri Country, back on a Monday night schedule. Budgie has been passed to Karen Hamilton, a Shellharbour RD, and is expected to turn up at a German parkrun around the Berlin Marathon; Alana Truig, the Parramatta Tail Walker, wrote in to say she has only just started listening. TOC's Inverloch birthday event drew 125 (Mel's guess of 127 was closest) with a crazy hats and socks theme, B1 and B2, chocolate mud cake and a visit from the Equal Opportunity Employee's family; Mel and Dave drove to Nhill parkrun event 272 in the Wimmera, 22 finishers on the woodchip swamp course, then Little Desert, silo art, Dimboola's pink salt lake and Seppelt's at Great Western before RDing Eynesbury on Sunday.
parkrun news bulletin starts at 10:36
TOC's weekly news round-up, a quiet week after a busy one. Ryan Stoddart is about to complete his Tasmanian clean sweep at Kingston Park, and Cameron Storey (a University of Western Australia Event Director) has reached 500 parkruns before the age of 20.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 12:57
Three roving reports, all recorded the previous week: Tracey Wood at Warner Lakes, Calum Burrell at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, and Tanya Bailey at the inaugural Hanmer Forest parkrun in New Zealand. TOC and Mel recap all three.
Dazza's starts at 32:48
Listener posts on the Friday-the-13th theme: Chloe Bravos travelling from Perth to Inverloch with Dave and Lucy; Sonja Pohlman park-faffing at Dubbo with Miriam Morris; Dan Baldwin at Mount Barker; Ryan Stoddart on Flinders Island; Janice and Keegan at Mundy Regional in WA; Lyndell Murray in Munich; and Gareth Arnold at Roundhay in Leeds.
the Obi Award — Gareth Arnold starts at 41:51
TOC opens the envelope for the week's Obi. Awarded for Gareth Arnold's mixed-bag-of-luck post from Roundhay parkrun in Leeds and the "Toyota jump" (which Mel called a cheetah jump) photo over the Roundhay pop-up. Noted as not his first Obi.
Club Corner starts at 42:35
Rachel walks through the full list of parkrun volunteer roles as a journey from the day after parkrun through set-up, the run, results processing and close-down, and asks listeners to count them. Closes with the standing reminder that all non-milestone clubs are unofficial and unsupported by parkrun. TOC and Mel then compare their own role counts (29 and 22).

Biggest overseas frond was six adventurers at Jezioro Górne parkrun in Poland, Christopher Miles, Andy Endevieri, Ali Soper, Colin Hare, Nicky Elway and one name TOC skipped. Nine of the group travelled to eastern Poland for the final J of Deb Airey's seventh parkrun alphabet, the first by a woman. Largest domestic frond highlighted was at Parramatta parkrun.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 51:19"Where is the cake?"
Three launches this week, taking the 2024 global tally to 96: Samford Parklands parkrun in Brisbane (514 finishers at event one), Salmon Creek Trail parkrun in Vancouver, Washington, USA (31 finishers), and Jessiefield parkrun in the UK (10 finishers and three volunteers, which TOC suggests is a closed facility).
Streaky September starts at 52:26
TOC reports his own streak is intact at around day 2000-something. Pippa the Streakmeister's weekly insert: her training plan fell over on Wednesday so she spelled her name out in street signs instead, and her challenge is to use the Bingoe card for fun rather than obligation. TOC then announces the new Bingoe card challenge, sign a friend up to the adventurers.
International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day starts at 56:13
Described by Mel as "a non-update": the release date for the Ugly Christmas Singlet and shirts is still pending and should be any day. TOC is looking forward to seeing how his "Jurassic kangaroo" design comes out.
Palm update starts at 57:00
The episode's headline announcement, trailed in the show notes: Palm 2025 will be held on 12 April 2025 in Queenstown on New Zealand's South Island, in a slightly different format, and will include a parkrun.
Sign-off starts at 58:12
Mel said they were coming to the end and asked where TOC was headed: back to Inverloch to actually have a run after standing on the stump as RD, in preparation for some big adventures coming up. Mel was going north to Sydney to check out Parramatta parkrun, a week too late for Budgie, and taking her teenager to see Hamilton at the Lyric Theatre. They noted next week was their week off with Sarah and Simon presenting, Mel wished TOC a happy birthday again and thanked him for joining her, they talked about whether the aurora would be visible from his back window, and she closed with the Facebook and email contacts and 'that's it for another week'.
