Guest interview — parkrun Canada launch (Euan Bowman, Country Manager)
Scott crosses to Euan Bowman at [00:13:19] ("On the weekend, the parkrun family grew. We welcomed Canada into the fold"). Bowman tells his origin story — finding the Wimbledon Common Time Trial in 2007, asking Paul Sinton-Hewitt to bring it to Basingstoke, starting the North Hampshire Time Trial from 35 runners — then covers the launch of Okanagan parkrun in Kelowna, BC (96 finishers, put on by Bill Justice), bears and moose in risk assessments, Canadian winter contingency, plans for up to 500 events, and being beaten by a high-fiving Tom Williams at the launch.
Event Director interview — Chermside parkrun 1st anniversary (Mark Huth)
Melissa introduces Mark Huth at [00:28:11] ahead of Chermside parkrun's first anniversary and 50th event. Covers the onesie theme (and red 50-shirt alternative), average attendance of 150-200, the 7th Brigade Park / Kidspace course on Brisbane's north side, how he emailed Tim Oberg after spotting the venue, first-time run directing nerves, and his top three parkruns (South Bank, Bunyaville, Sandgate) plus the standing joke about him never having left Queensland.
Strava Art Competition
Trailed the previous week and revealed here at [00:43:08] with a drum roll. Listeners must join the parkrun Adventurers Strava Club, run a route that draws a replica of an image the hosts will post to Facebook, and email the Strava link in. Entries open 24 August - 20 September, winner announced in episode 37; prize is a choice of "option P" (mystery prize) or "option A" (starting with a one-of-a-kind costume accessory hand-made by Melissa). Runs straight into the weekly Strava Club leaderboard update at [00:47:19].
Social Adventurers
Cued by Scott at [00:48:02] "What's happening in the social scene?" A run through Instagram, Facebook and Twitter mentions: Beaker Design's Wooters infographic, Dr Nick at Mudgee, Chris Fraser at Shellharbour, April and Penny's tumble video, Finding My Balance at Kawana, Mama of Hope at Balyang Sanctuary, the Dirty Cheetahs, _PK's new Brooks shoes and push-up challenge, Brendan Schollery on Ulladulla filling the parkrun-alphabet "U", Peter Pohlman on the explicit-rating incident, and Ross Pentland and Mike Bristow on tyre-company shoe soles.
Launches and anniversaries ("Where is the cake?")
Scott opens at [00:56:00] with "Are you in the mood to party? ... It's the party week at parkrun" and lists nine Australian anniversaries falling on the same Saturday — Balyang Sanctuary (4th), Cairns (3rd), Capalaba, Hervey Bay, Lake Joondalup, Maribyrnong, Mount Clarence and Singleton (2nd), and Chermside (1st) — plus the imminent Wilson Botanic launch. Melissa jokes that the missing states should launch events to make it an "Uber anniversary" next year. Cake framing survives at [00:57:26] ("Will you be looking for cake someplace close by?").
