Streaky September
Bookending the episode. Opens at [00:00:37] "Streaky September is over, and I'm enjoying not-so-streaky October", then the hosts recount ticking off the last of their bingo-card and level-up challenges together on the Sunshine Coast: a Nambour freedom walk in the dark with Melissa Taylor, climbing Mount Coolum before sunrise in pyjamas, Kawana parkrun, and listening to a podcast. The formal wrap-up runs from [01:05:44]: both hosts kept their streaks, Scott recounts starting a run at 11:58pm in a hotel car park in Brisbane to save the streak, Melissa thanks everyone who streaked along on Strava/Facebook/Instagram/Twitter, and Scott declares at [01:07:38] "Streaky September is now going to be a tradition for the parkrun adventurers."
Meet the ED
Interview with Nico Boon, Event Director of Riverway parkrun in Townsville. Leads with what Melissa dubs "the parkrun Story of 2017": Kevin the dog was spooked by the field, bolted into the crocodile- and eel-inhabited Ross River, and three parkrunners (Nikki, Liz and Jess) waded in to rescue him then finished their parkrun soaking wet — owner Karen came back the next week with a sign and gifts to find them. Nico then tells her own parkrun story (Couch to 5K in 2013, first event in Big W gear, run directing for four years, taking over as ED from Tracy Cohen), her "Gumby Runner" alias and Zombies, Run! mishaps, the Townsville running scene, and her top three parkruns (Nambour, Kawana, Airlie Beach).
Roving Adventurers (roving reporter crossovers)
Grette Wilkinson reports from the launch of Carisbrook parkrun in the City of Salisbury, South Australia, on AFL grand final day. She interviews Sean (Mawson Lakes and Torrens regular, organises a Saturday running group), a pair of women having post-run banana bread who both completed their first 56 km Yurrebilla ultra the previous weekend, Hope (running with a decorated pram in Adelaide Crows colours, upcoming run director), and Jess, an 11-year-old from Mount Barker with 100 parkruns who loves the playground and speaking on the microphone as run director.
Launches and anniversaries ("Where is the cake?")
One launch this week — Portarlington in Victoria, which Scott recalls as the "sleepy little town" where he once broke his foot; he will miss it because he is at Westerfolds for a special milestone. Anniversaries at Champion Lakes (WA) and Hamilton Island (Queensland), prompting Scott's "Party time on Hammo".
The Perlustration (annual listener survey)
Announced at the close: "We'll move on to the next thing, which is our Perlustration. Mel, it's back." The hosts agree to write the questions and come back next week to release the Perlustration for 2017. A tease/announcement rather than a full segment this week.
