Roving reports
In this episode
Welcome starts at 0:13
Scott Trickett recording outside in Melbourne in magpie season (he has befriended the family in his front yard), having found his microphone wrapped in his dirty shorts after last week's on-location recording; Melissa Erbacher co-hosts. Mel ticked off Ashgrove in north-side Brisbane from her list of ten nearest unvisited events, struck by how encouraging the runners were, and spotted Event Director Pat on course. Scott's daughter Kasia ran her 100th at Westerfolds, willingly taking the milestone shout-out, joined by Scott's sister and mum and celebrated with cake, and she now wants to return to Studley; International parkrun Day brought plenty of apricot and strong attendances.
Meet the ED starts at 9:33
Kelly Bright, Co-Event Director of Petrie parkrun (north Brisbane) and a serving police officer of 25 years, on the Cops and Robbers day she has organised across the North Brisbane territory (Petrie, Bunyaville, North Lakes, Warner Lakes, Sandgate, Mitchelton, plus Bundaberg, Mansfield, Cleveland and Broadbeach Waters), its police health-and-wellness message, a visit from the Petrie family including Lavinia Petrie, the Petrie course description, and Zoe the "Disney parkrunner" as parkrunner of the Month.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 46:53
Three roving reports introduced together by Mel: Zara Curtis from the Portarlington parkrun launch (interviewing Event Director Fiona), Lyndell Murray from her home event Bunyaville on International parkrun Day, and Greta Wilkinson from Ararat while camping in the Grampians. Hosts debrief and formally add Greta to the roving crew.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 50:45
Lyndell Murray reports "for the Channel 5 News crew" from Bunyaville parkrun, interviewing volunteers Fionn (photographer), Wayne and Bob (tokens), Marie (Tail Walker/communications), Tess (Run Director and Volunteer Coordinator) and Grace (Run Director since), then signs off "for the Channel 5 News crew on International parkrun Day 2017". At Mel says Greta "wants in on the Channel 5 News crew" and the hosts sign her up.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 1:14:49"Where is the cake?"
Launches this weekend at Bannockburn Bush (Victoria) and Urunga (New South Wales); anniversaries at Berwick Springs and Hamilton (Victoria), Galston (NSW) and Kalgoorlie-Boulder (WA).
The Perlustration starts at 1:15:33annual listener survey
Launch of the 2017 parkrun adventurers Annual Perlustration. Hosts tease a mix of repeat and new questions, promise incentives across the month it stays open, plan to report the analysis in November, and float "Do you want to see the parkrun adventurers back for 2018?" as one of the questions, tied to Scott's admission that the show will finish 2017 in the 90s rather than reaching episode 100.
Sign-off starts at 1:18:58
Mel asked whether Scotty had any more surprises or adventures planned; he said he had a real fun adventure that week to a new event which he did not want to spoil and would tell her all about next week, and that he was not certain he would get to run it but would at least visit. Mel said she looked forward to hearing all about it, and the episode ends there.
