• Episode 139 - Running Challenges

  Full reveal of the 2018 parkrun adventurers perlustration (annual listener survey), third year running. Results covered: home state (Victoria 30%, NSW 24%, internationals 11.5%); over 50% of listeners have 100+ parkruns and 10% have the green 250 shirt, with nobody who has never done a parkrun; segment ratings (banter 94% "awesome", roving reports and guest interviews strong, the madness quiz 69.31%, the hotline 57.43% "which is why we let the hotline go"); which retired segments listeners want back (ED interviews 73% yes, the news 52%, Club Corner just below 50%, the Poem Zone only 11%), with the write-in answers overwhelmingly asking for Ian Hay and Facts in a Haystack to return - Scott says he has already reached out to Ian; questions on the Palm gathering and a proposed "Contiki Tour" (South Africa the listeners' pick); other parkrun podcasts listened to (With Me Now and Free Weekly Timed ~70%, Marathon Talk ~35%); apples vs mangoes (team Scotty 51% / team Mel 49%); and "who is funnier" - 49% too hard to call, Mel 26.09% beating Scott 25.22% by a single vote.

  Scott previews an in-flight Perlustration result, asked which day listeners would prefer the podcast released (Monday/Wednesday/Friday), the most popular answer so far is Wednesday, which prompts a discussion of recording and release timing. Revisited in the sign-off, where Scott says the survey closes next week, the results will be discussed, and the TomTom watch prize given away.

  Scott reveals he has glanced at the early perlustration (annual listener survey) results but won't share yet; the survey stays open a couple more weeks, and they confirm they act on it, "if you tell us something sucks, it's gone.   The annual listener survey is finished and about to go live on the Facebook page, running for one month from release, with a TomTom watch given away as a prize (as in the previous year). Tim Oberg's suggested question, a poll on whether Scott really is "the dry, serious one", was added at the last minute during his interview.

  The hosts announce the Perlustration giveaway extravaganza has closed; the prize draw and the survey findings are held over to next week's episode. Scott notes some listeners followed the link without knowing what a perlustration was.

  Melissa reminds listeners they have one more week to submit their Perlustration responses and enter the associated TomTom giveaway. Referenced earlier too, where the hosts joke about whether "who's the favourite adventurer" should have been a survey question.

  Final week for listeners to fill out the annual perlustration survey; results to be broken down two episodes later. To incentivise late responses without breaking the survey's anonymity, they announce a giveaway of a TomTom Adventurer watch (parkrun orange), email any one of your survey answers to parkrunadventurers@gmail.com within the week to enter.

  Scott pushes the parkrun adventurers 2017 Perlustration. He stresses it is completely anonymous, reports more responses already than in the whole of last year, and says it stays open two more weeks with an incentive to be announced next week. He teases results from the "if you could interview anyone" question, including a listener suggestion of Sophie Monk, and several suggestions of people who are no longer alive.

  Launch of the 2017 parkrun adventurers Annual Perlustration. Hosts tease a mix of repeat and new questions, promise incentives across the month it stays open, plan to report the analysis in November, and float "Do you want to see the parkrun adventurers back for 2018?" as one of the questions, tied to Scott's admission that the show will finish 2017 in the 90s rather than reaching episode 100.

  Scott and Mel walk through the results of their listener survey: most respondents are Victorian, then Queensland, with more international respondents than Northern Territorians; out-and-back courses edge single loops by 1% and multi-loop courses come last; 53% of listeners have volunteered; iTunes is the dominant listening platform (with exactly one Stitcher listener); 60 minutes is the preferred episode length; guest and ED interviews rated highest; 90% do fancy dress at least sometimes; and 59% found The Princess Bride funny, to Scott's disgust.   Scott gives a short preview of the listener survey results, prompted by Sally Heppleston's 18-month PB drought: the survey asked "how long between PBs?" and respondents are struggling to set them. Mel suggests it means the audience is long-serving hardcore parkrunners; Scott insists "they're not trying hard enough."

  The hosts launch their listener survey on Facebook, billed as "now annual". Ten quick questions, link on the Facebook page, and listeners were asked to be honest, which Scott jokes he is regretting. Bathurst parkrun shared the post. The obscure word is picked apart later in the episode and becomes the Word of the Week.
