Roving reports
In this episode
The Perlustration (annual listener survey)
Scott reveals he has glanced at the early perlustration (annual listener survey) results but won't share yet; the survey stays open a couple more weeks, and they confirm they act on it — "if you tell us something sucks, it's gone. If you tell us you want something back, it's coming back." A brand-new TomTom Runner 3 watch is the prize, open to overseas listeners too. Revisited at [01:11:05] and [01:11:44].
Nutrition Q&A with Kelly Hodges
Resident nutritionist Kelly Hodges returns (show notes: "one of our fave regulars"). Covers nuts (30g/day, variety over single types, macadamia/almond/cashew/Brazil nut profiles, price vs nutrition), a three-ingredient raw chocolate recipe (coconut oil, cacao powder, maple syrup), antioxidants and free radicals, and fermented foods — prebiotics/probiotics, kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi. Closes with Kelly, 34 weeks pregnant, on continuing to parkrun.
Channel 5 News Crew
Two roving reports back-to-back after a dry spell — Melissa Ellis from Chelsea Bicentennial parkrun (Victoria) interviewing Dawn, then Lyndell Murray from Ocean View parkrun (Queensland) covering the new course launch. Mel recaps at [00:56:24] "Melissa Ellis was at Chelsea Bicentennial... And Lyndell was at Ocean View", and at [01:11:17] reminds listeners that roving reports are welcome from anyone, not just crew members.
Hotline
Listener phone-in question, played after a "Hotline" sound drop: "Hey, Scott and Mel. Jackie from the ACT here... if you could do any three parkruns in the next 12 months that you haven't done yet, what would they be?" Mel picks Chesham, Cannibal's Cave (or Piggly Wiggly) and Bear Island; Scott picks Ocean View, Largs Bay and Broken Hill. The hosts explicitly flag this as likely the segment's last outing.
The Compass Club (new adventurer club)
Mel flags her Tasmania trip as the final leg of her own Aussie Compass Club — heading to Geeveston parkrun, the southernmost event in Australia, to complete all four compass points. She dismisses the alphabet-style clubs ("that's not a real compass club"), Scott counters that he's in one, and Mel appeals for a graphic designer to help with artwork for the medals she's having made.
Launches and anniversaries ("Where is the cake?")
No launches this week, but anniversaries at East Richmond (NSW), Karkarook and Coonwara (Victoria), Maitland (NSW), Port Hedland (WA), South Bank (QLD) and Willoughby (NSW). Earlier in the intro the hosts also cover their own shared home-event anniversaries — Kawana's sixth (spooky/fancy-dress theme, cupcakes) and Westerfolds' (W theme, Scott dressed as a "wish list").
