The parkrun adventurers are going unconventional this week! We attempt to recruit a newbie to this whole parkrun thang, chatting to 3 time paralympian Madison de Rozario. PK makes a come-back with a not-so-roving report, Melissa Ellis checks in from Frogs Hollow parkrun, and rather than filing a report, Mark submits a response to his most recent Channel 5 News Crew entry challenge.

Madison de Rozario
Her first Paralympics in Beijing at 14 and the relay silver; sprinting vs momentum styles of wheelchair racing; where wheelchair athletes chafe; being an ambassador for the inaugural Run West in Western Sydney; her upcoming schedule (nationals, Boston, then London as defending champion and World Championship marathon), coached by Louise Sauvage. The framing of the episode is that she has never done a parkrun and the hosts are trying to convert her - she lives near Rhodes and concedes "I'm not going to be a difficult person to convince."

Welcome starts at 0:22
Scott Trickett and Melissa Erbacher; Scott has Run West fever ahead of the 12K this weekend on what he calls a three-month taper, with new shoes, a slow mile on the track with his coaching group, and the adventurers Christmas singlet settled on as his kit. A back-to-front episode: reports from Melissa Ellis, Mark and PK, and a guest who has never done a parkrun, with PK handed the intro.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 6:26
Paul Kitching (PK) returns after a long absence with what he insists is "not a roving report": a chat recorded hands-free in the car on the way to Mount Barker parkrun's fifth birthday in South Australia, with a much-discussed errant bee interrupting proceedings. His passenger is Tim Jenkin, the anti-apartheid activist whose 1979 escape from Pretoria Prison is being filmed in Adelaide as Escape from Pretoria with Daniel Radcliffe playing him. Ends with a post-run debrief: 375 finishers, a course record turnout, and Tim's 24-something Australian PB. Scott then sets PK his next challenge - get Daniel Radcliffe to a parkrun.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 50:59
Melissa Ellis files the one conventionally-roving report of the week, from Frog Hollow parkrun in Endeavour Hills, Victoria, in light drizzle. She revives her "fashions on the field" angle to interview Catherine Hocking about the Slow Burners running group (founded 2014 by Rochelle Olsen, snail-yellow tops, trail focus, snake-awareness and night-running clinics), then interviews Tail Walker Rosemary about the Frog Hollow course, its 20,000th finisher, its swans and its frog mascot Ribbit.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 1:08:19"Where is the cake?"
No launches in Australia this week. Anniversaries at Chipping Norton (NSW), Kelvin Grove (Qld), Manjimup - "for the Manjimuppets" - (WA), and Mount Isa and Riverway (Qld). Mel notes she is overdue for cake. Rolls into the hosts' weekend plans: Mel to Lota where her brother and sister-in-law take their first run-directing stint, Scott to Centennial parkrun in Sydney for Run West weekend.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 1:13:43
Mark's response to the crew-entry challenge set in episode 149 - rather than roving, he argues his case. He replays the hosts setting him the task of finding a Wilson index number neither of them has, then plays the commentary from Steven Bradbury's 2002 Olympic gold to argue that his qualifying event at Gungahlin was a legitimate if fortunate win. Mel initially tries to raise the bar to a Wilson index under 100, then retracts on air - "I have never laughed so much in a roving report" - and admits him: "Mark, you're in. You've made it." Gold-level status is deferred to The Beaches in two weeks.
Sign-off starts at 1:20:10
Scott set aside the question of Mark's gold level status until The Beaches and laboured the point that this was not that weekend but the one after, 6 April - the same weekend parkrun launched in Japan and the eighth anniversary of parkrun in Australia - with Mel at Lota and himself at Centennial in the meantime. Mel said their choice of that weekend showed their commitment to the podcast and that she thought the Beaches would be bigger than the Japan launch; Scott called it a big call but agreed she was right.
