Welcome starts at 0:23
Ollie Spake hosting with Melissa Ellis, welcoming Victoria back to parkrun and thanking TOC for stepping in and for the Palm 2022 organising. Ollie missed the Tassie trip (well done to Eman for a sub-two-hour mountain half marathon), avoided a shooting incident near the Windang Bridge and Banksia Avenueparkrun course while Bec Bailey was safely away in Victoria on a school camp, and took his daughters to a Matildas game near Rhodes parkrun; Mel eased back in at Peppertree parkrun with Abby's mum, 33 finishers and a PB. They then chew over the new barcodes-on-phones rule after Mel's wristband failed to scan for the first time, the UK's new Ultraband and parkrun's new enamel pins.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 22:14
A "terrific trio" of roving reports, thrown to by Mel and wrapped up by Ollie. Lyndell Murray reports from Nathan Road Sports Ground parkrun (Rothwell, Redcliffe Peninsula, Qld) for event 7, interviewing tourist couple Greg and Carolyn about their compass points and alphabet challenge, then Co-Event Directors Kelly and Matt about founding the event. Tracy Wood reports from Kirra parkrun on the Gold Coast during the GC50 Run Festival, talking to Run Director Heather about a finish-token mix-up and the reopened NSW border. Greta reports from Nuriootpa parkrun in the Barossa Valley during an event-ambassador takeover, interviewing Event Director Kareen. Mel notes it is a "clean sweep for the girls for the second week in a row" and that Lyndell's report was recorded a week earlier.
Dazza's starts at 42:29
Weekly read-through of listener check-ins at the Dazza's cafe thread, themed this week on sausage rolls to match the official Great Aussie Pie and Sausage Roll competition. Contributors read out include Sally Heppleston (Westerfolds), Bruce Purdy (Wallaby Track PB), Jodie Maisie (Hamilton, Brendan Peel's 50th volunteer), Irene Bommakanti, Andrew Turner (Ocean Grove), Lynette Anne (Mansfield Botanic), Helen Reeves (Berwick Waters), Nadine Crawford (You Yangs relaunch), TOC, Chris Fraser (a four-star sausage-roll review), Sam Schroder (Burley Griffin), Claire Stutchbury, Mandy Oliver, Chris Hood, Pippa White, Rebecca and Brett Bailey, Richard, Peter Pohlman, Alison King, Patrick Schimitzek, Val Warwick, Tracy Wood, Greta, Lyndell and Janet Reid.
the Obi Award — Pippa White starts at 1:01:23
The hosts formally settle on a name for the new weekly award: with no listener feedback received, Mel proposes and Ollie agrees on "the Obi", "call us biased, but I think the Obi has it", a nod to their own part of the world. Awarded to Pippa White for the effort behind her check-in: her first-choice parkrun was cancelled at 8:52am for a 9am start, she scampered to the next closest event and caught the Tail Walker to get a time, thereby completing her Cowell Club, 100 different parkrun locations. Mel: "That's a true adventurer going above and beyond to get her barcode scanned." The hosts also float tracking winners across a year for an end-of-year overall award.
the Informant starts at 1:03:34
Pre-recorded unofficial stats segment. No records this week despite Victoria's return, blamed on bad-weather cancellations in Australia and the UK; 291 Australian events (up 68) out of 1,314 worldwide (down 207); no launches anywhere; Australian attendance up 3,621 to 25,139 out of 109,429 worldwide; 2,293 PBs and 812 first-timers; milestone counts; 18 people called bingo (Tom Gallagher quickest on 175 events, Tim Edwards slowest on 342); five New States people; David Messinger moves to 15th outright on the most-events list after running at Homestead; Roger Millett the biggest Wilson Index mover, up 15 from 10 to 25. Signs off claiming a PB for shortest stat report.
Consolidated Club Report starts at 1:06:11
Adventurers Club numbers: membership up five to 69, with 43 members on the consolidated club report (up 20 on the week before, credited to Victoria's return) and 22 people logging not parkruns (down five, as Victorians returned to real parkrun). Australian not parkrun table topped by Campbelltown on 31, Coonwarra second on 15 equal with Port Macquarie, Shellharbour on nine and Toolern Creek on two. Ollie then reads the New Zealand numbers passed on by Alison: Hamilton Lake 51, Whangarei 44, Anderson 43.
International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day starts at 1:08:30
Brief update: orders for the Ugly Christmas Singlets and shirts closed the previous Sunday, with Jeff Whiffen getting a last-minute order in at the eleventh hour. Mel reports orders have exceeded previous years and the day itself is a couple of weeks away.
Sign-off starts at 1:14:03
Mel said that could be everything for the week and Ollie agreed they had covered it all; Ollie gave the Facebook and parkrunadventurers@gmail.com contacts and signed off with "that's it for another week".
