Welcome starts at 0:23
Melissa Ellis on Wurundjeri Country and Ollie Spake on Dharawal Country, both with post-Palm blues. Ollie sends wishes to flood- and fire-hit parkruns, explains Shellharbour was cancelled again with its dirt track now a gully, and ran a careful Sandon Point 400th event on a knee he strained doing hill training on Mount Wellington, missing Marvellous Mark's 200th at Huskisson; Mel ticked off event six of Cyril Curtain Reserve in Williamstown with Helen and Steve Davis, regaining her Victorian statesmanship, then scraped together a long-weekend roster for Eynesbury juniors. They reflect on Palm's exhausting format, Ollie's microphone technique, Dawn winning the first physical Obi (3D printed by Steve) and the beauty of Bellerive on the Derwent.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 25:22
Ollie crosses over "We've got some roving reports, Mel... Let's switch our focus and have a listen to those." Four reports run back to back: Sarah Jefferson tail walking at Mount Clarence, Albany (WA), interviewing WA tourist David; Johan Duvenhage from Weavers Country Estate parkrun, Wakkerstroom, Mpumalanga, South Africa, interviewing Carmen Jacobs and 100-different-events Cowell Club joiner Ridwan Fakir; Tracy Wood at Queens Domain, Hobart, capturing the run briefing delivered in rhyme; and Lyndell Murray at Stockton parkrun, Newcastle, interviewing Wooters club member Rod and first-time Run Director Alicia. Hosts recap all four.
Emails starts at 43:55
"We got mail", one email, from Val Warwick, read out by Melissa Ellis. Val responds to Ollie's interest in the Bruny Island Ultra mentioned by Brooke, reports that Steve ran the 64km the year he turned 70, warns about the final climb to the lighthouse, and thanks the hosts and TOC for Palm weekend. Leads into a chat about Bruny Island cheese and beer.
Dazza's starts at 46:45
Dazza's Cafe opened late this week, "management would like to apologise for the late opening of Dazza's Cafe. It would seem all the excitement in Tassie last week has upset our routines." Posts read out: Tanya Bailey at Woodend Beach, NZ; Richard at San Remo parkrun (Sally's 25th milestone, his P-index to six, Moo Moo and Milkshake's first parkrun together); Tim Robbins joining the Compass Club at West Beach with Barbara; Bec Bailey at Sandon Point's 400th; "Steve's bike"; Irene Bombacanti at Broadbeach Waters; Sphinxie; Sonja Pohlman (Peter's 100th volunteer at The Beaches); Chris at Karkarook; Dennis Peden's 500 consecutive days of 5km; and UK tourist Karen Hurrell at Harleston Magpies. Also referenced earlier as having appeared in person at Palm.
the Obi Award — Rich Ard starts at 55:04
Back to a virtual Obi after the first physical, 3D-printed Obi was awarded to Dawn at the Palm quiz the previous weekend ("the budget doesn't extend to postage... you want a real Obi, you've got to turn up to Palm"). This week's Obi goes to Richard, for his Dazza's post from San Remo parkrun, Sally's first milestone at 25 events, his own P-index jump, and the photo of Moo Moo and Milkshake heading out for their first parkrun together in front of the selfie frame. Ollie awards it "by extension to Moo Moo and Milkshake and Sally as well".
the Informant starts at 56:09
The Informant is absent, so the segment is delivered by a stand-in after an office skit (Mel hands over a login, "Password is Pulsar91", a spreadsheet and a statscript, and the stand-in demands theme music). "This is not the informant. It's Abi's mum." Abbreviated stats, Australia and New Zealand only: 367 events in Australia and 14 in NZ, 38,722 participants, 5,300 PBs, 1,706 first-timers; 106 junior 10s, 168 fifties, 105 hundreds, 22 two-fifties; five new statespeople (Martin Rocks, Joe Reinhardt and Andrew Denny in the ACT, Chris Nettle in SA, Graham and Vanessa Fairbrother in Tasmania); a post-COVID record 29 people called bingo; Tyron Jarman quickest on 114 runs and Reece Eberhardt slowest on 306; 82 moved their Wilson index, Peter Baraglia the biggest mover (31 to 81); Selina Ward and Bryce Davies joined the Peel Club; Sarah Gee and Claire Thiel joined the Cowell Club.
Consolidated Club Report starts at 1:00:10
The parkrun Adventurers Club is up to 136 members, with 110 members appearing on the Consolidated Club Report at 70 different locations. Thirteen UK events (Colwick, Southampton, Bradford, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Hackworth, Rushmoor, Tooting Common, Market Rasen Racecourse, Ross-on-Wye, Penryn Campus, Sharpness Road Playing Fields, Harleston Magpies and Frogmary Green Farm), one in New Zealand and one in South Africa (Atlasville). Domestically 20 events in Victoria, 13 in NSW, 13 in Queensland, four in WA, four in SA, one in Tasmania and none in the ACT, with a shout to Scott Trickett "We're keeping that going for you, Scotty."
Sign-off starts at 1:02:18
Mel said she was off to Studley parkrun to see the Sky Whales hot air balloons launching from an oval next to the course, arriving at 6am and meeting Eman, Christine and baby Juno. Ollie said that provided the course was up and running he would be at Shell Harbour, with Sam Schroder and Bec coming as guest Tail Walker. Ollie said it had been wonderful reminiscing, gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
