Welcome starts at 0:24
Melissa Ellis on Wurundjeri Country and a slightly croaky Ollie Spake on Dharawal Country, with more roving reports and news being held back until the end. Mel flew to Queensland with Tracey in a Tutu for Yowie parkrun at Kilcoy on Jinibara Country (13th of 17, Ruben first finisher), then Des Connor Park juniors with 129 kids, brunches with local adventurers and Freedom Walks at Kedron, Minnippi and Chermside; Ollie skipped Picton's pace week to be Volunteer Coordinator and marshal at Shellharbour, prompting a discussion of how that role is interpreted. They mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II, list the Commonwealth realms, and note the September volunteer update featuring Wimmera River parkrun.
Streaky September starts at 11:42
Mel and Ollie check in on their own streaks and Bingoe cards, then cross to the Streakmeister audio from Pippa, who asks how listeners are getting on with their Bingoe cards and talks about habit-forming ("it takes about three weeks to create a new habit"). Ollie flags the Bingoe card has had a couple of "level ups", and the pair set this week's streak challenge: photograph street signs and spell out a word using the first letter of each, with a royal theme, as a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 15:51
Ollie hands over "We have three roving reports this week": Ingrid at Umbagong District parkrun (ACT) interviewing volunteer Graeme; Harry at Taman Pudu Ulu parkrun in Malaysia interviewing his brother Jasneesh Bular; and US correspondent Geoff at Charleston parkrun, West Virginia, interviewing Dee, the couple John and Jennifer, RD Jamie and UK tourist Gary. Mel and Ollie thank all three.
Emails starts at 34:51
The mail slot runs but is empty, Ollie: "we haven't got mail this week", Mel: "The inbox was empty. It's the Scott Trickett effect." They suspect their Dropbox/mailbox has hit its storage limit and apologise to anyone who has tried to get through.
Dazza's starts at 35:28
Share Ideas Day theme. Contributions from Adrian Hillyer, Bruce Purdy (the "ideas man", proposing a Bunnings parkrun with barcode scanning at the checkout and a post-parkrun snag), Melissa Ellis herself (most likes, for a Yowie parkrun photo with Ron Grant), Renee Jackson and daughter Abby at Wyndham Vale, the Office Lady Sam Schroder from Picton PB week, Ian Shaw at Jerrabomberra Mountain Reserve, Steve's bike (200th parkrun, and hinting at retirement), Mark Scarborough as RD at Wagga Bridge, Tony O'Connell dressed as the Flash with Jacqui O'Connell as Robin, Calum Burrell's 250th run alongside Lindsay Burrell's 250th volunteer at Burnage, Christine Imbert at Church Mead, Graham Wilkinson at Albert (two-minute silence for Queen Elizabeth II before the Great North Run), and Michael Scott at Avondale University College.
the Obi Award — Calum Burrell starts at 45:20
Awarded to Calum and Lindsay Burrell for a "very well-aligned milestone pair of celebrations" at Burnage parkrun, his 250th run on the same day as her 250th volunteer occasion, celebrated in matching rainbow tutu, rainbow heart T-shirt, rainbow glasses and rainbow hat.
the Informant starts at 46:22
Unofficial stats for parkrun day 10 September 2022: 459 events down under (420 Australia, 39 New Zealand) out of 1,703 worldwide; ANZ attendance 40,491, up 1,200; six launches; 4,696 PBs and 1,917 first-timers down under; milestone counts; 20 people called bingo; quickest and slowest statespeople; 13 statespeople; most-events and wIndex movers; Adventure Challenge inductees. Bonus stat requested by the ideas man Bruce: nine people are "pioneers" who have completed the original parkrun in each Australian state. Signs off "my spreadsheet is full of caramel goodness". Mel thanks "our millennial informant this week... as opposed to the boomer who tricked us last week and passed over his duties".
Consolidated Club Report starts at 50:46
Adventurers CCR for Saturday 10 September 2022: 295 members, 233 taking part at 115 locations across the UK, South Africa, USA, Canada, Finland, New Zealand and Australia. Seven adventurers at Robelle Domain, seven at Jerrabomberra Mountain Reserve, six at Picton for PB week.
the Frond starts at 51:14
Top of the fronds was The Ponds with nine (Dennis Peden, Charles Burns, Natalie Wilson, Jeff Robinson, Joe McLean, Louise Garbers, Tarina Gearan, Mary DeLuna and Manish Bindroo). The largest frond overall was 12 at Des Connor Park junior parkrun, Michael Blain, Barbara Luther, Robin and Lance Plarn, Melinda and Pauline Taylor, Linda Ripper, Claire Stutchbury, Lyndell Murray, Cherie Martin, Tracey Wood and Melissa Ellis herself, who notes she was there in person.
International Ugly Christmas Singlet Day starts at 54:02
Orders for this year's ugly singlets are open, with a surprise addition: visors. Orders open for a limited time only and the designs are never to be repeated; listeners are pointed to the Ugly Christmas Singlet or Shirt Day Facebook page and Santa's Little Helper's new website, iHeartUgly.com.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 58:17
Mel announces a brand new member of the crew: Sarah Jefferson, "the fabulous Sarah from the West Side", who completed the initiation challenge, interview someone on a beach in a pirate costume with a parrot in the background, tell a joke and make them laugh, and sent in a video. Ollie thanks her for her contributions to the pod and notes she is also on the PALM planning committee.
Sign-off starts at 59:33
Mel asked what Ollie was doing next parkrun day and he said he was not doing one at all - he would be poolside in Fiji with no official parkrun there, though he would keep a freedom-run streak going and try to train for the Tasmanian mountains. Mel had left the week blank in her diary, was still recovering from the previous weekend and said she would spin an alphabet wheel and edit in the result at the last minute (the wheel landed on an R). Ollie thanked everyone for their contributions through the pod, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week, adding "we, not me, but the rest of you, we'll see you all next week".
