Welcome starts at 0:23
Ollie Spake on Dharawal Country, still on tonsillitis medication after a rough winter, and Melissa Ellis with dog Chico on Wurundjeri Country, still COVID-free alongside Ava. Ollie run-directed a sunny, puddly Shellharbour; Mel flew to Darwin parkrun on Larrakia Country, her first Northern Territory event, on a midnight-arrival ticket, ran a hot double out-and-back near Parliament House, then spent the day hunting for somewhere to charge her phone before flying home to marshal at juniors for Abby's 25th volunteer milestone as RD. Eight adventurers took part in Germany's Unity Day at Neckarau, Nidda, Hasenheide, Monrepos and Rheinpark.
Launches and anniversaries starts at 10:13"Where is the cake?"
Albert Melbourne parkrun's 500th event, celebrated with 644 participants and three adventurers present - Scott Trickett, Joanne Blackbourn and Marie Lincoln. Later, in the stats rundown, Melissa Ellis also notes a launch at Broad Park on New Zealand's South Island with 239 participants and 39 first-timers.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 13:28
Four roving reports in two batches. First batch: Sam Schroder (the Office Lady) from Bathurst parkrun with co-EDs Jen Arney and Stephen Jackson, ahead of the Mount Panorama Punish; Cameron Drake from Applecross parkrun in WA asking parkrunners how motivating milestone shirts are. Second batch: Tracey Wood chasing her NENDY at White Rock parkrun in Queensland; Paul Kitching at Pakapakanthi in Adelaide on its restored full course.
Emails starts at 31:23
Ollie checks the inbox and finds no listener feedback this week - "I'm not sure we have mail." Mel confirms the address is working because it was full of roving reports; the segment is effectively a nil return.
Dazza's starts at 31:43
Universal Music Day theme - Dazza asks whether listeners listen to music while running or walking at parkrun. Check-ins from Geoff Glaab (King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, which gives the episode its title), Ingrid Botha at Dolls Point, TOC, Tanya Bailey, Heather Hunter at Coombs, Gemma Kajasky at Centenary parkrun in Clermont, Craig Ryan at Cyril Curtin Reserve, Val Warwick at Tasmania's new Tynwald Park, Joe McLean at Airlie Beach, Belinda Taylor at Waterloo Plains, Chris Gore at Mundy Regional and Helen Rutter from the UK.
the Frond starts at 33:27
Frond news woven through the Dazza's check-ins: Craig Ryan fronding at Cyril Curtin Reserve for Irene's completion of Run Down Under Australia, Mel plotting a frond at Waterloo Plains, and Ollie promising to challenge for the Vrond title at his home parkrun in a fortnight.
the Obi Award — Heather Hunter starts at 42:44
Ollie opens a green envelope and awards this week's Obi to Heather Hunter, for her Dazza's check-in from Coombs parkrun in the ACT - 5km of chatting with friends while park walking, second breakfast at the National Arboretum, kangaroo sightings, her 59th different event and a floating Wilson index lifted from 8 to 15.
the Informant starts at 43:29
The Informant is absent again; Melissa Ellis reads a stand-in stats rundown "leeched from Dazza's and any of the other social media posts". Covers the Broad Park (NZ) launch, alphabet-challenge letters for Bec Bailey, Roberta Winters, Bill Ober and Sarah Jefferson, Darwin added to the Aussie Pioneers Club as the Northern Territory's first event, Fibonaccis for Christine Imbert and Calum Burrell, and Abigail Jackson's 25th volunteer purple shirt.
Consolidated Club Report starts at 59:31
Saturday 8 October: of 314 members, 251 took part at 142 locations, across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, South Africa, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and the USA. Largest frond was 12 adventurers at Cyril Curtin Reserve for Irene's Run Down Under completion; largest Vrond was 10 volunteering at Eynesbury Juniors. State counts: Victoria 34, Queensland 28, NSW 21, SA 12, WA 6, ACT 5, Tasmania 3, NT 2 - a "bowling strike" with every state represented, and Ollie notes it is the first time adventurer parkruns have topped 250.
Sign-off starts at 1:01:39
Ollie thanked Mel for the stats and asked her plan for next parkrun day: she was staying close to home with a two and a half hour drive, hoping to talk her family into an overnight trip to the country town of Boort, and Ollie would be staying home to run direct again, aiming to challenge for the largest volunteer frond and hinting at a "Bailey's style" celebration. Mel told him to have early nights and get well with hot lemon and honey after his coughing, gave the Facebook and email contacts and said that was it for another week.
