Welcome starts at 0:01
After a listener's mock Obi-award acceptance speech, Melissa Ellis on Wurundjeri Country and Ollie Spake on Dharawal Country, both ordering the ugly buff and wearing old ones on the wrist, a trend they credit to Monty Slade. Ollie cancelled Shellharbour at the last minute over an unpassable wet track and drove up to Cowpasture Reserve, Camden, for a rainbow-themed milestone morning, his fastest time of the year by a second, a chat with Paul Whelan about his event-planning spreadsheet, and a stop at the cafe he thinks is called Jelly's.
parkrun news bulletin starts at 16:25
Ollie asks "What else is happening in the news of the parkrun world, Mel?" Mel reports that Adrian Hillyer of Peppertree parkrun has updated the Western Wanderers Challenge to include two more Victorian events, and that the 5K app's new update lets users build their own challenges from templates (specific names, names starting with or containing, event numbers and dates).
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 18:47
Three back-to-back filed reports introduced by Ollie as "this 11 Rand roving report and the rest of our roving reports": Johan Duvenhage from Heidedal parkrun's fifth anniversary in the Free State, South Africa (interviews with founding ED Edwin, first finisher, volunteer Abby, Timekeeper Cyril and RD Rudolf Hofmann); Tracey Wood from Tamborine Mountain; and Cameron Drake from Jarrahdale Heritage. Melissa Ellis's own Mount Ainslie audio ran earlier.
Roving reports & the Channel 5 News crew starts at 23:53
Tracey Wood's report from Tamborine Mountain parkrun (first-timer Louise, who refers cardiac-rehab patients to parkrun; RD Paul) followed by Cameron Drake's from a freezing Jarrahdale Heritage parkrun in WA (RD Carly). The show notes attribute both to the Ch 5 News crew; the crew is not named aloud in the episode itself.
Emails starts at 31:12
"You've got mail." Two listener messages: Ingrid explains the difference between an Acknowledgement of Country and a Welcome to Country, which Mel accepts as a correction of her own wording the previous week; and Tyson from Canberra writes in with a family selfie-frame photo.
Dazza's starts at 33:34
National Reconciliation Week 2022 edition, "be brave, make change", with Dazza asking contributors which country they parkran on. Posts from Michael Gentle (Southern Highlands Botanical Gardens, backwards-flag photo with Paddy), Steve Spike, Chris Ruse (Mount Ainslie), Barbara Luther (husband Roger joins the Cow Club at Stones Corner), Val Warwick (Devonport's seventh birthday), Lee Cabarita (Cronulla), Carol Pryle (Shiraz Trail), Peter Leroux (50th venue at Poznań, ordering a rhubarb lemonade and a St Martin's croissant, the episode's title), Anne Fry (first appearance), Graham Wilkinson (The Pastures, Alnwick Castle) and Hendo Stew (13th country, Netherlands). Janet Reid's order arrives as an audio file, prompting Mel to invite audio Dazza's submissions.
the Obi Award — Peter Leroux starts at 44:25
Ollie: "I believe, Mel, we need to award an Obi." Mel finds the envelope on her own desk for once and awards it to Peter Leroux for his Dazza's order from his 50th different venue at Poznań parkrun in Poland, "Not much of a coffee culture here, so make mine a rhubarb lemonade and St Martin's croissant, please, Dazza", the line that gives the episode its title. Ollie: "I'm definitely going to chase up some rhubarb lemonade after that." The episode also opens cold with a junior listener thanking the show for the previous week's Obi.
the Informant starts at 46:29
Delivered on the road from Tarcutta on Wiradjuri Country instead of "level 2 with a view", and repeatedly derailed by Caramilk chocolate (a running Cadbury-sponsorship gag flagged in the show notes, ending "This has been the caramilk, and my caramilk is caramilkier than yours"). 445 events down under (408 Australia, 37 NZ), 1,744 worldwide, ANZ attendance 36,903, three launches all in the UK, 4,773 PBs, 1,641 first-timers, Jim Collard the second Australian to reach 500, Taryn Johnson quickest bingo caller, Jackie O'Brien the biggest Wilson Index mover, and four new ACT statespeople including "the boss, Melissa Ellis".
Consolidated Club Report starts at 49:37
For Saturday 28 May 2022: 205 members, 164 taking part at 107 different locations, 16 UK events, two in the USA, one each in South Africa, Poland and the Netherlands, and locally 28 Victoria, 24 NSW, 15 Queensland, seven WA, three SA, three Tasmania, one ACT (Mel herself) and none in the Northern Territory. Mel then reveals the club has since passed its 210-member goal for the year, and explains the club still misses the Australian largest-clubs list because it is registered as an international club.
the Frond starts at 53:01
The week's largest frond went to the travelling South Australians at Broken Hill Racecourse parkrun, Kate Corner, Gordon and Julie Turner, Janet Reid and Alicia Hopper, the same group Janet described in her audio Dazza's. Ollie also spots Shellharbour locals at The Beaches.
Sign-off starts at 53:49
Asked what his goal was for next week, Mel said she would give the alphabet wheel another spin; Ollie said he would be more local, run directing back at Shell Harbour as the event's birthday approached, and wished someone a happy birthday. Mel hoped his event would go ahead, Ollie said he looked forward to seeing where the wheel took her and that it had been an absolute pleasure, and they gave the Facebook and email contacts and closed for another week.
Alphabet wheel spin starts at 54:08
Mel sets next week's adventure by spinning an alphabet wheel rather than choosing an event: "I'm going to refer to the spinning wheel again, I think, this week, Ollie. So the alphabet wheel will get a little spin from me later on." The spin itself is teased in the post-credits sting, "Ooh, it's a J. Hang on, wait. How far away is that?" Not in the known segment catalogue; flagged in case it is a recurring bit under a name the show uses elsewhere.
