Episode 456 - The hype team
Delivered by Reginald Yardley Pomphrey III as a "Who Am I" quiz in seven clues (state/territory not featured before, on an island, many neighbours, at the bottom of the North Island, something new, operates on a stop bank, was the number one event in New Zealand). Answer: Lower Hutt parkrun, New Zealand. He closes noting parkrun now hosts renamed non-milestone clubs in the app. Hosts then debate whether Lower Hutt really is at the bottom of the island and swap New Zealand colloquialisms (stop bank, chilly bin, judder bar).
Episode 455 - Tantrums, Tears and Tribulations
Reginald Yardley-Pomfrey III explains the parkrun ambassador roles he skipped in his earlier 13-part volunteer series: event ambassadors and regional event ambassadors, then the specialist roles — outreach, translation, social media, video and photography, content creation, health and wellbeing, live event processing support, critical incident line, grant ambassadors and national coordinators. Simon follows up with news of meeting parkrun Global CEO Lil Duggan at the APAC office and a call for new APAC ambassadors.
Episode 454 - Old and New
Delivered in character by Reginald Yardley Pomphrey III as a 'Who Am I?' quiz, framed as a Palm 27 update: seven clues (a territory recently featured, never hosted Palm, 173rd event to open in Australia and 4th in its territory, out-and-back, beside a lake, named after a famous American) reveal the host location for Palm 2027 as Burley Griffin parkrun in the ACT — resolving the running gag about the lost envelope. Closes with a note that parkrun now hosts various renamed non-milestone clubs in the app.
Episode 453 - Half Way There
Presented by Reginald Yardley Pomphrey III (00:53:34-00:56:18), continuing his run of parkrun country profiles — this week the Netherlands. Covers the Holland vs Netherlands distinction (quoting a blog by Victoria Sevigno), the February 2020 launch of six events growing to 27, Whit Monday as the Dutch special day and how its date is derived, the three Z events (two of them Zuiderpark, Den Haag and Hoogeveen, over two hours apart), Almere being reclaimed land younger than the hosts, the province of Zeeland as the 'anti-Antipodean' joke, and Kagerzoom as the picture-postcard windmill-and-canals parkrun. Signs off noting parkrun now hosts renamed non-milestone clubs in the app. Simon comments on it at [00:56:37]. Note: here Reginald PRESENTS Club Corner rather than following it as a separate bit.
episode 452 - The Away Game
Delivered this week by Reginald Yardley Pomphrey III as his "Who Am I" quiz format: seven clues (northernmost event in its state/territory, two-lap course that does not finish where it starts, top of the POPs Club, crosses its bridge once, a troll associated with it) resolving to an ACT event he names as "Wagi Bridge".
Episode 451 - Let those pies fly high
Reginald Yardley Pomphrey III presents the 100th episode of Club Corner, coming to us from Arrernte country. He teases a "Reginald reveal" — "Should one declare their physical form, or should one continue in the non-corporeal..." — then declines to reveal himself, inviting listeners to email guesses. Closes with the standing reminder that all non-milestone clubs are unofficial and unsupported by parkrun.
Episode 450 - Celebrations and pronunciations
Presented by Reginald Yardley Pomphrey III, profiling Japan as the 21st parkrun country: the World HQ preview tour, launch at Futako Tamagawa on 6 April 2019 with 343 parkrunners including PSH, Tim Oberg, Carol Cunningham, Tom Williams and Renee Gimbert; 40-50 events weekly; the three-letter-acronym naming convention (FTG, KNH, HKG); the Hero and Jam TV YouTube channel; the gear tarpaulin service culture; the 50th event and Japan Limited tote bag in 2025; and Greenery Day (4 May) within Golden Week. Sign-off as usual: "all non-Milestone clubs are unofficial and unsupported by parkrun".
Episode 449 - Is it your first time?
Presented in full by Reginald Yardley-Pomfrey III. Returns to the country series after "a few side quests about apps and indices", this week Malaysia: parkrun began there in April 2018 with Taman Pudu Ulu parkrun, joined by Presint 18 parkrun, Putrajaya in November 2018; both returned in August 2022 post-Covid but Taman Pudu Ulu closed after its 107th event on 31 December 2022 over landholder permission. Presint 18 continues past 250 events. Includes travel tips (the Grab app, second-hand clothing shopping), a note that the women's course record of 19:23 has stood since December 2018, and a history of Malaysia Day (16 September, commemorating the 1963 formation of the Malaysian Federation), with thanks to the Sabah State Library.
Episode 448 - Surrounded by clowns
Reginald Yardley Pomphrey III reviews the Running Achievements app as a follow-up to Club Corner 95 and his earlier Park Race app review - graphical challenge tracking, the periodic table achievement, Australian state/territory region badges, volunteer achievement levels and extended statistics. He notes the app credits Mel Erbacher with coining the Pirates Club, and signs off with his standard reminder that all non-milestone clubs are unofficial and unsupported by parkrun.
Episode 447 - You raise me up
Presented by Reginald Yardley-Pomfrey III: the Wilson index family as tracked in the Park Race app - double and triple Wilsons, and the "Golden Wilson" where each event number counts only once. Also covers the PC index (events per country, currently maxing at 13), the P-index and alphabet graphics, and signs off with the standing reminder that all non-milestone clubs are unofficial and unsupported by parkrun. Explicitly back-references Club Corner numbers 11, 12 and 95 (Rachel's earlier instalments).
Episode 446 - Show us your weed
Delivered in character by Reginald Yardley-Pomfrey III. A survey of parkrun-related smartphone apps: parkrun's purchase of the 5K app (now simply "parkrun", published by parkrun Global Ltd, v4.0 rolled out March 2026), the parkrun Virtual Volunteer app (originally by Nuism of Newcastle NSW, part-owned by Penny Redhead), then pros and cons of parkrun Planner (James Kent), Running Achievements (Ford Hollett), Park Race (Alexander Cahill) and parkrunner-5K Results (Apps for London Ltd / Gary Grace). Closes with a reminder that all non-milestone clubs are unofficial. Followed by studio discussion with Melissa and Tony.
Episode 444 - Addicted to Love
Presented by the character Reginald Yardley Pomphrey III "coming to you from Aranda country", in its current "Who Am I?" quiz format: seven clues (state not yet featured, 650+ events, out-and-back, prominent alternate course, pioneer event in its state, beside a river, "Do you like the zoo?") revealing the answer as Torrens parkrun, South Australia. Signs off promising a return to the country series with events north of the equator, plus the standing line that all non-milestone clubs are unofficial and unsupported by parkrun. Sarah and Simon then debrief their guesses.
Episode 443 - Gelato in Milano
Presented in full by the Reginald Yardley Pomphrey III persona, from Arrernte country: "Germany Week". Covers Germany's federal structure, its triple launch (Küchenholz, Neckarau and Georgengarten parkruns), the PSH/HQ grand tour of eight cities beforehand, the addition of Berlin, Frankfurt and Osnabrück by January 2018 for 11 events in the first year (a country record at the time), Germany launching with only the virtual volunteer app, growth to nearly 70 events, German Unity Day on 3 October plus Christmas Day, and Aachener Weiher parkrun being the most alphabetical parkrun in the world. Signs off with the standard line that all non-milestone clubs are unofficial and unsupported by parkrun. Hosts follow up at [00:52:51] comparing their German parkruns (Lyndell at Riemer, TOC at Ziegelwies).
Episode 442 - A Lil Bit of Hope
Presented in character by Reginald Yardley Pomphrey III from "Aranda country", covering Finland: Tampere parkrun (Oct 2017), Finland as the world's happiest country, nine events including Pori Forest, Vääksy Canal parkrun between Lake Päijänne and Lake Vesijärvi, a 14-bridge course, and Pokkinen parkrun in Oulu as the current most northerly parkrun. Delivered as written text read aloud — he speaks the punctuation and emoji names out loud ("smiley face", "open bracket", "winky face", "exclamation point").
Episode 69
Explicitly announced as returning: "But now, Club Corner! Club Corner is back." Scott and Mel talk to Steve and Margot Manning from intraining, described as the third largest parkrun club in the country. The club was formed in 1994 out of training groups that had outgrown a single coach, registered with Athletics Australia and Triathlon Australia, and focused on recreational rather than elite runners - unusual at the time. They helped get parkrun off the ground at New Farm Park in Brisbane, have around 700 members and 15-20 active coaches, build a Saturday parkrun tempo run into their core weekly program, run a monthly watch-covered predictor race, and publish every member's parkrun result in a weekly newsletter. Their distinctive red-striped singlet gets a mention as a "guaranteed cheer".
Episode 68
Segment is introduced with its stinger at [00:43:49] "last week we promised Club Corner. So, time for Club Corner" — but there is no guest: [00:44:22] "We would have loved to have spoken to someone on Club Corner this week, but they're not returning our calls." Hosts promise to persist. A no-show week, not a retirement of the segment.
Episode 60
Club Corner returns for 2017 with Nicholas "Nick" Stabler of the Wooters, a Newcastle-based running club. Covers the origin of the name and the owl logo (a tongue-in-cheek reworking of a well-known restaurant chain's logo, H changed to W), the club's signature "woot woot" call and hand sign, its inclusive fun-first culture, the weekly time-based interval session ("Wootervals"), and how to join — request the Facebook group, master the woot, and set your parkrun club to Wooters.
Episode 57
Not performed — named only as an example of a bit the show has quietly dropped. Scott at [00:04:42] "Remember Club Corner?" followed by [00:04:47] "The thing is, we try things. Some work, some don't. Some work and we stop them. Some don't work and we keep doing them."
Episode 49
Returning guest Rachel Allworth on Rachel's Runners, a southwest/south Sydney club she started in 2013 after taking up running the year before. Grew from a 12-week learn-to-run program for friends to 300+ members; she is now a level 1 and 2 accredited recreational running coach and kids' athletics coach (and a schoolteacher), coaching six days a week plus a free Tuesday night run club. Open to everyone though majority women. Success story: a beginner from the very first 2013 intake who went from never having run to completing a 10k that May. Groups now run in Milperra, Panania, Revesby, Menai, Cronulla, Sans Souci and Hoxton Park.
Episode 48
Featured club is the Secret Rocky Runners, Rockingham WA, with founder Rob. Covers why he started it after moving from the UK and finding no affordable local club, growth from a 20-person Facebook group to Wednesday interval sessions of 15-30, incorporation with a committee but a deliberate decision not to align with WA Athletics on cost grounds, the orange club colours chosen by vote, the birthday mile on the WA Athletics track, 11 relay teams at the Perth Marathon with the mixed team third overall, and success stories including a member's first 5k run and members physically holding up a failed finish gantry at the Bunbury Three Waters so late finishers had a finish line to cross.
Episode 47
Introduced with a jingle sting. Enrique Suana from the Achilles Club (Sydney chapter) explains how Achilles pairs people with disabilities — primarily vision impairment — with sighted guides for parkrun and longer events, how guides are trained and what the role demands, his own Boston Marathon guiding of Stephen Green, and how parkrun's visually impaired aid volunteer role and walkable format make it a good entry point.
Episode 46
This week's Club Corner comes from Victoria: Raelene Joyce on Raring2Run, the women-only "Pink Army", founded September 2014 out of Berwick Springs parkrun after her own weight-loss and running transformation. Now 118 members with roughly 50 half-marathoners, about 20 full-marathoners, two ultrarunners and a stateswoman (Michaela Curtin). They recruit TO parkrun rather than from it, use parkrun as a mid-campaign tempo run with "pre-parky" and "post-parky" add-ons, and hand out club business cards — a first for the segment per Mel at [01:00:03].
Episode 45
Sonya Stacey of the South Bank Tri Club (Brisbane) on the club's origins in 2010 with three mates after a first attempt at the Mooloolaba Triathlon, its growth to ~310 volunteer-led members, how South Bank parkrun is built into their training (the "parkrun sandwich", brick sessions in the South Bank lagoon, #SBTContour), their club takeovers of all volunteer roles, and the 19-to-75 age range and service-industry make-up of the membership.
Episode 44
Running-club feature. Scott hands over at [00:54:40] "Let's go interstate for Club Corner!" and welcomes Matt Raschke of five30runners — the club's origin at Newy parkrun in September 2012 (Dave Robbo and Gary Wells), the 5k-in-30-minutes goal, ~1,718 members, the Facebook group and its "splinter groups", and how parkrun is "the glue that bonds this group together".
Episode 43 - Satoshi Ashida
FIRST-EVER APPEARANCE of Club Corner. Explicitly announced as new: [00:35:49] "we're not going to finish with our crime report. We've got a new segment" and [00:35:59] "It's time to try a new segment. You've heard Mel and I talk about our running clubs enough. We thought let's hear about a few more running clubs." Debut guest is Nikki Waterfall of the Diamond Creek Runners, on how the club grew organically out of Diamond Creek parkrun via midweek motivation runs, its three weekly sessions, and its Start to Run / Couch to 5K program that graduates participants at parkrun. Scott confirms the format at [00:41:45] "being our first Club Corner guest" and at [00:41:56] "That's how we finish each episode from now on."
